General Cricket Discussion

Chappelli calls it : Chappelli calls it | 'Sort out cricket's other problems before talking about the Olympics' | Cricket videos, MP3, podcasts, cricket audio | ESPN Cricinfo

cricket not being in the olympics is one of its big problems, especially for the countries that don't play test cricket. most of the associate/affiliate nations only get $40,000 a year to try and develop cricket in their country: put Cricket in the Olympics and they'd easily get more than that from national sports bodies.

of course, why should I expect common sense from a guy that doesn't think that Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are good enough to play test cricket

I was doing list research today, when it occurred to me that a mid-80s Antiguan XI would have been able to beat most Test teams on their day.

This is a 1984-5 Antiguan XI:
Player||Notes

Ralston Otto| | Six hundreds and an average of 34 when the Shell Shield was at its strongest.

Richie Richardson| | Then 23, he would go on to average 44 in 86 Test matches.

Viv Richards|:c:| The greatest batsman of his generation, at the peak of his power.
atg.gif
Enoch Lewis|:wk:| A respectable first-class average of 31.
atg.gif
Edward Lewis| | Scored 145* against a strong Barbados team in his only List A match.
atg.gif
Eldine Baptiste|:bwl:| A good all-rounder and semi-regular Test player.
atg.gif
Winston Benjamin|:bwl:| A very aggressive all-rounder and proven match-winner.
atg.gif
Ulysses Lawrence| | Had a reasonable record in the Shell Shield.
atg.gif
Tony Merrick|:bwl:| Prolific seam bowler in both England and the West Indies.

Andy Roberts|:bwl:| A great bowler in the twilight of his career.

Interesting, think it was either Viv or Richie made a comment that WI poor showing in recent times is due to the fact that Antigua are not producing the talent as they use to.

Also its insulting to refer to Curtly as 'one of cricket's great fast bowlers at the start of his career''. To me he did exceptional over a stellar career and goes down as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, his average 20 odd over just under 100 tests is amazing. In fact i think he continued ranking in the top 10 lists towards the end of his career whilst maintaining speeds at over 145kph. Cant say too much of Andy but he certainly played a big path in the four prone pace attack.

1984-5 was the start of Ambrose's career, and the twilight of Roberts'.

This was not a statement referring to their quality at any point in particular.

Anyone ever read a book entitled 'False Profits', published un 1992 based in the corrupt dealings if the bcci

I'm a passive follower of Rugby, but seeing a lot of interesting articles in recent months by folks au fait with both sports administration highlighting how the IRB growth is outdoing the ICC.[DOUBLEPOST=1447011092][/DOUBLEPOST]
I thought carberry could have been given a little more run especially given that eng cant round on one to partner cook.

Ye possibly, few people would have made runs vs Johnson in that form. But then again one could argue Nick Compton who was picked before Carberry should not have been dropped.
