General Cricket Discussion

Ab shouldnt be the captain, McCullum should be in and captaining. No SA players in the test side shows how little tests we play...

India to host Afghanistan home games | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Afghanistan have a new home ground - in India. On Thursday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the BCCI signed an MoU with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority to use the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex as their home ground.

According to a BCCI release, the ICC recently cleared the facility - around 40km from Delhi - for hosting ODI and T20 matches between Associate teams as well as matches between Associates and Full Member A teams.

"Afghanistan was quite keen to shift their home base to India for some time now and it has been BCCI's vision to expand the game globally and help associate and affiliate members of ICC," Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary, said. "In this direction, we identified this ground and Greater Noida authorities were open and cooperative to offer this ground to Afghanistan Cricket Board."

Shafiq Stanikzai, the CEO of the ACB, said the move would strengthen ties between India and Afghanistan.

"I am grateful to BCCI and particularly Mr. Anurag Thakur for offering us a home base in India," he said. "This is a historical day for Afghanistan cricket and this will strengthen the relationship between two countries.

"We were trying for this for the last few years and finally we have succeeded. I am sure that in future we would be able to host full members' national teams on this ground as well. I would also like to thank Greater Noida Authorities for all assistance they have provided to us."

Is that the actual stadium or just an artist expression? Anyway that was the pic posted in the ACB tweet announcing the agreement.

A very well written article once again from Tony Cozier. I am glad he too thinks that WI should follow suit of NZ. Clearly the way WICB should be redesigned in terms of its way of functioning.

I have stated belief that WI should be broken down to the individual nations that constitute it. I am not sure playing for WI is the same as playing for the flag. The present T20 lot are happy to miss WI games to play T20 cricket elsewhere in the world. However will be equally happy to ditch their flag and play elsewhere, I doubt it. I remember Dwayne Bravo, back when he was playing for MI in IPL, said that WI are only his third preferred side, after T&T and MI. I really think that players will be more loyal to their national flag than some association of nations that WI is. It will be a huge departure from the norm, but if thats what needs to be done, then it should be done.

Ashwin and Smith finished the year as the no. 1 bowler and batsmen respectively in the ICC Rankings. Ashwin incidentally also finished as the no. 1 all-rounder.

Virat Kohli was given the BCCI player of the year award, which I felt was unfair to Ashwin and surely Ashwin is the Indian cricketer of the year by a long way. This just shows the bias that exists against bowlers in India.

Yes. Exactly. Tbh Virat hasn't done much this year with bat. Although he has lead the team to win tests in Sri Lanka and of course against S.Africa. Ashwin should have won the award as without his contributions, all those wins wouldn't have been possible.

I saw somewhere that Mandeep Singh was fielding for SA-A. Anyone know the details of that match, as in why was Mandeep fielding for South Africa A ?
