General Cricket Discussion

Yeah, I feel there should be an U-19 T20 World Cup as well.

T20 is for hard hitting players, scores of 150-160 but with the younger player even in World Cup most ODI scores didn't cross 200, wouldn't be as fun

The women struggle to post scores of like 120, because even with shorter boundaries they just don't have the strength.

I'd rather young up and coming players not playing T20 cricket, because it's just going to teach them bad technique etc. which will ultimately make them worse Test players.

Moreso because there aren't any genuine fast bowlers than because there aren't any good strikers. They're also far more technically correct overall and that limits the style of play.

^Yeah it's a bit like watching an under 16s match when you watch the women play in that most don't have the power to clear the fence, and only a couple can hit 120kph. But that doesn't make it bad cricket though - there's some pretty good skills on display.:thumbs

Theres a T20 match going on between Bangladesh and Afghanistan as we speak. The match got reduced to 15 overs due to rain. Some late hitting in the end took Afghanistan to 99-5 in their 15.

Bangladesh get an easy victory then. 100-2 with a few balls to spare.

Bangladesh are playing in another T20 match tonight against Trinidad. Bangladesh stumble to 124-9 against a strong Trini attack in their 20 overs.

Is it alright to pause while bowling? I mean Ashwin does it all the time so, should be legal or there's nothing mentioned about it in the rule books?

No clue, but if the switch hit is allowed this should be too, my opinion ofc.

Yeah, I have the same question. When Ashwin got Nabi out he waited forever to bowl that ball. I've seen Hafeez do it before but he didn't pause for an eternity like Ashwin did that ball. Nasser Hussein said the batsman should move away at the time Ashwin pauses to bowl on commentary.

It's called a stutter ball. It's cheeky but probably not quite against the spirit of the game; I also suspect the resulting delivery has an increased error margin. Rescinding your guard is probably the safest thing to do, but if a conflict arises, I wonder who has the better run of law 42. It's usually considered to be time wasting if you repeatedly pull away from guard, because you're supposed to be ready when the bowler runs in. However, it could be seen as a deliberate attempt to distract the batsman or maybe even time wasting on the bowler's part, if the umpire determines that the batsman is justified in repeatedly leaving guard.

How is switch hit compared to a pause bowling? I'd have switch hit as a skill and pause bowling as something not ' correct'.
