General Cricket Discussion

If you just had to consider the combo of 6 set players in each row, which row would you guys pick ??

1. Trestcothik | Kirsten | Ponting | Lara | Flower | Waugh
2. Attapatu | Langer | Dravid | Sachin | Yusuf | Laxman
3. Hayden | Sehwag | Sanga | Kallis | Clarke | Misbah
4. G Smith | Gayle | Younis | Kohli | Chanderpaul | Matthews
5. Warner | Cook | Williamson | S.Smith | Devilliers | Shafiq

Wanted to choose first one , but since it has Ponting (don't like him personally even though he had great skills) that's why turned that down .

So ,

3. Hayden | Sehwag | Sanga | Kallis | Clarke | Misbah

Let's go!
1. :saf:Graeme Smith- The most successful Test Captain who scored runs everywhere and probably very consistent

2. :ind:Virender Sehwag- Probably the most destructive yet a very consistent batsman who can single handedly destroy the opposition. I remember he scored a 100 in South Africa in 2001 facing bowlers like Donald and Pollock and hitting them all over the park.

3. :sri:Kumar Sangakkara- Actually a personal choice here. I really love to watch him bat and actually my all-time favourite batsman. A classy left-hander with a wide range of shots and could play the cover drive better than anyone and also a wicket-keeper.

4. :ind:Sachin Tendulkar- My favourite player of all-time and probably only next to the great Bradman himself. King of hundreds and can play in almost every condition at any place in the world. Greatness of the man can't be described in words.

5. :aus:Michael Clarke- Another classy right-hand batsman and is very difficult to get out. I could very well remember his back to back double tons against the Proteas back in 2012. He can also play spin bowling really well. A career cut-down due to depression of losing his team-mate Phillip Hughes.

6. :sri:Angelo Matthews- I can't really pick between Misbah ul Haq's 100 at Lord's and Matthew's 100 at Headingley. Those were really great knocks under pressure which I personally watched Live. But I go with Matthews probably because him having a power hitting ability to go after the bowler with low risk shots and same time having the ability to hang on.

I did wanted to have Dravid, Lara, Ponting and Laxman in the side but probably wanted to go with my personal favourites

These are performance of teams in Test matches away from home in alien conditions. I think this could clearly talk about the performances of teams, their approaches, their struggles and achievement and failures in Test series away from home. I've tried to keep things realistic over here by making some adjustments. In other words the data is customized in a way so that things look realistic. Please go through the notes below to understand this graph better.

  1. The data shown is in the form of percentage
  2. Blue colour shows percentage of matches won and orange shows percentage of matches lost. Grey shows drawn percentage.
  3. The graph in 2000-04 does not include matches played in and against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh but India does include Zimbabwe because they had lost a match to them in this period. The data also doesn't exclude matches in Asia for Asian team apart from their home matches since it was tough to beat these teams at their home even though they had similar conditions.
  4. The graph in 2005-09 does not include matches played in and against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Pakistan excludes matches played in UAE. The data also doesn't exclude matches in Asia for Asian team apart from their home matches since it was tough to beat these teams at their home even though they had similar conditions.
  5. The graph in 2010-14 does not include matches played in and against Zimbabwe, West Indies and Bangladesh. The data excludes matches in Asia for Asian teams since it was not tough to beat these teams at their home as they had similar conditions. Pakistan excludes matches played in UAE but includes matches played in Zimbabwe since they had lost a match to them. Bangladesh does include matches played in Asia.
  6. The graph in 2015-20* does not include matches played in and against Zimbabwe, West Indies and Ireland. The data excludes matches in Asia for Asian teams since it was not tough to beat these teams at their home as they had similar conditions. England includes 2019 West Indies tour since they lost this series. Pakistan includes 2017 West Indies tour since they lost a match to them but excludes all matches played in UAE. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are advantaged since they exclude their loses in India. Bangladesh is also disadvantaged since it doesn't include it's first ever win in Sri Lanka.

I'm wondering why the 2023 World Cup doesn’t have 12 teams, with the same format. All Full Members would have the chance to qualify together, and India would have 2 extra matches, which would make the broadcasters happy. Win-win situation in my mind.

For me, it has to be:

:pak: Wasim Akram - Swing and variety
:aus: Glenn McGrath - Line and length
:pak: Shoaib Akhtar - Sheer pace
:aus: Shane Warne - Spin variety; I like leg spin more than off spin so that's why I didn't go for Murali

Since this is for ODI attack , therefore :

Curtly Ambrose
Trent Boult
Javagal Srinath
Shane Warne

Statistically, it will be:
:saf: Allan Donald
:aus: Glenn McGrath
:aus: Brett Lee
:pak: Saqlain Mushtaq

But personally, I think this is better:
:pak: Wasim Akram - Very obviously the best left armer among all the bowlers
:aus: Glenn McGrath - Choosing him only because he has a great one day record.
:aus: Brett Lee - He has pace, can bowl reverse-swinging Yorkers and a lovely celebration. Is there anything else to ask for?
:sri: Muttiah Muralitharan - Very tough but I'm gonna go with him. Has a much better average than Warne. Plus his average against opposition and in different countries makes you feel he was too consistent.

:pak: Wasim Akram- Highest wicket taker in ODI and can swing the ball both ways. A world Cup winning player and also a good Captain.

:aus: Glenn McGrath- An ODI specialist and highest wicket taker in World Cups. A bowler who doesn't swing the ball much and neither had express pace but had very good control and discipline in his bowling.

:sri: Lasith Malinga- One of the best death bowler in the world for almost a decade. A very attacking bowler in his early days and used to have express pace and great variations of slower deliveries when he was at peak. A bowler with a slingy action who could bowl perfect yorkers at death.

:sri:Muttiah Muralitharan- A spinner who bowled very accurately and always kept the runs down. He never really gave away anything and constantly kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. A slightly confusing action and had a special weapon known as the doosra in his armoury. I remember he always used to have a slip in place while bowling.

Was watching the highlights of the Aus vs Pak CWC 15 QF today.

Everytime i see that spell from Wahab, I still ge awestruck.
