The Bayern test will truly test pep's managerial skills,

I don't think it will, really.

They have a bigger budget than Dortmund and have a bigger stature in world football, so are in a better position to keep their star players. And those two sides are currently miles ahead of anyone else in the league in terms of squad quality (even if dortmund are third)

winning a lot of trophies will be slightly impressive, but it isn't make or break.

Pep to Bayern then: I didn't see that one coming! Still, glad he's not going to City. ;)

Well yea, but i was more talking about a testing of his skills away now that he won't have the amazing barca players to coach - which made his CV so good more than anything special about him than we can truly identify.

Munich are talented but not on barca's level of course, so while he should win the bundesliga easy with them, when its champions league time - how good he is tactically will be truly tested.

Yeh. Saw a reasonable point made on another forum, have Barcelona missed pep?

Their league start suggests otherwise. 18 winds and a draw from 19 games and their manager fell ill.

They dont i'd say. Barca skills are all down to the famous la masia academy. No coach gives them their talent, just as much as john buchannan didn't give the great australian cricket team its talent.

Any decent spanish coach like roberto martinez or benetiz could coach barca to win stuff, since the foundations are already set.

If Tito Vilanova was to win similar trophies with barca in the next 2-3 seasons, i hope the media doesn't overhype him too much as well.

Guardiola and Vilanova both came through the system themselves and either played alongside or coached the youth levels and some of the current Barcelona side. They are both proponents of the Barca system and it's unlikely the same success would be replicated with Joe Bloggs at the helm.

The right move from Pep. He clearly has his philosophies rooted in a team where it's all about progression through the club and manufacturing their own stars.

At Bayern he will be going into a league which is rapidly gaining exposure, producing some very good teams, and a club that mixes intelligent spending with homegrown talent. A great fan base and awesome stadium, plus he gets to live in Munich for 3 years which is an awesome city!

Well of course ha, not any joe bloggs cause i for eg did say any decent spanish coach like martinez & benetiz could have similar success @ barca. Similar to how del bosque & aragones have had success with spain internationally, who essentially adapt the barca style on the national stage.

it puzzles me guardiola gets so much hype when del bosque's success was largely met with eye rolling when he achieved it in a similar fashion.

I guess especially with regards to del bosque's success @ madrid - i don't think the football world was so in love the "galactico's era" @ madrid, that he coached as much as they have gravitated towards modern day barcelona.

Well tbf to VDB he had already won a CL title pre-Perez.

Add Heynckes' pressing game to that and it all just makes too much sense...

Bayern through to the semis of the Pokal, never seen Dortmund play this poorly in the last 3 years or so, but I reckon that was more because of how good Bayern were than anything else.

Schweinsteiger and Martinez. :clap

Weidenfeller single handedly rescuing Dortmund from a thrashing defeat. Scheiber's miss towards the end though... :facepalm

Klopp's reaction to Robben's goal...

Hah, but yeah, Weidenfeller was absolute class, best Dortmund player on the pitch by a mile.

We've rarely seen Dortmund play to their potential this season, barring in Europe where they've set up very intelligently.
