Giles Clarke wants English IPL Model

You are right, they don't need an EPL. The IPL is one of a kind in its highly international based nature and the Twenty20 Cup of England does a fine job as it is.
Sorry, is it only India that's allowed to have a big flashy contest while England has its little tin-pot competition?

If English cricket thinks it can make some more money out of twenty20, why shouldn't it look at increasing its competition? If it can attract some investment why shouldn't the worlds best play in it? At least the English season doesn't run at the same time as anyone else's so its not taking people away from their own domestic leagues.

I don't particularly want an EPL, but this India is greater than all attitude stinks.

I think the ECB just want to have a chance to milk the cash cow.I watched the finals of the T20 Cup last year and enjoyed it. Why do you want an EPL now?

Don't think it will fly tbh.

lol only BCCI are allowed to make money of Cricket, even though I'd hate if PCB made money of such a thing.

Just to point out that BCCI is doing nothing else but the same.

Atleast people should leave cricket alone and stop making Cricket to earn money, which they shouldn't.

I agree with what has been said. England have the Twenty20 Cup and the Twenty20 World Cup in a few years time, they don't need another competition since we don't need twenty20 starting to overshadow the longer version of the game.

Well Still I don't see any reasons,Why England players need to join IPL?
In English county, there are no problems with Fans and Tickets?
They are getting good money and still they have enough fans to cheers.
Who wants to stay away from home for just little bit of money?
Because i don't think Love towards the Game is forcing them to join IPL.IPL is only commercial league.

There is no "India is greater" attitude, at least from my stand point.

The only reason I think it won't succeed is because of the IPL - it's already taken most of the big name stars and I doubt that they'll want to play in two of these franchises at a time. And, time left out for the IPL PLUS the EPL, which I presume put together would be about 4 months, take another large chunk of time from International fixtures.

EPL = IPL = ICL = Cricket. Enough. We had Enough..

Would it be better and more acceptable for people to have all these leagues if we got rid of ODI's that take up too much of the schedule?

So Twenty/20s become the destruction of ODIs?

I'm still a fan of ODIs and probably prefer them over T20s, but I think it might just be smarter to phase them out little by little.

The Indian Premier League is practically the International Premier League and a second one of its kind would create a saturation in the market. I don't think that India is greater than all - keep in mind that I live in England and think myself firmly British.

I see what you mean but I feel that the change in the style of cricket from Test to Twenty20 would be too vast and ODIs are sort of an inbetween. I much prefer ODIs internationally-wise.

Twenty20 is too much of a hit or miss affair to really gauge a Country's skill.

I agree with Will. ODI's are better for international cricket, T20's are awesome at the franchise/domestic level. The odd international T20 here and there, maybe 2 matches a tour, won't hurt, but I think that the shortest form of the game should thrive in the IPL/ICL/Other Domestic forrms.

I?d agree with that, it?s good in smallish doses. Maybe the Twenty/20 is the game for all the gimmicks and entertainment, whereas the 50 0ver game can go back to being ?proper? cricket ? just in short form. I don?t really like the modern 50 over game, yet 10 -15 years ago I did ? something needs to be done to revitalise it. Also, there needs to be a limit on the amount of pointless games/tournaments played. In my view, 7 is far too many in a tour. 5 is the absolute limit. None of this will happen because they?re seen as a cash cow.
