Ferrari needs to switch to Michellin.
I think the Bridgestone tyres might have something to do with their lack of performance.

They won them the race at Indy ;).

There's no point anymore, as Michelin are pulling out after this season and Bridgestone will be the sole provider of tires in 2007.

Michellin going out will be a sad news. In a minute way, Bridgestone being the sould provider after 2007 will somewhat increase the competition level.

And the track conditions of Indi suits the Bridgestones more than Michellins.;)

What gives you that impression?

Michelin took a safer and less agressive tyre approach this year to avoid what happened last year, it has nothing to do with track surface.

I think the idea of a sole tyre producer is a bad idea.

Competition between cars in F1 is seemingly getting closer to A1 of all the cars being the same.

Why is it bad? For how many years was there a sole producer?

Either way Michelin was going to pull out of F1 for next year regardless from what I gathered. And I don't think there is any competetion for the contract with Bridgestone anyway.

How is it getting closer sole tyre manufacturers, the aero rules are and the engine size restrictions the only things. There isn't controlled chassis and engines yet which would really bugger the sport up, I wouldn't complain just yet.

But the aspect of different tyres for different teams has been a integral part of recent F1, It is a loss for F1.

Not really. For many years Good Year was the sole supplier (before current tyre war). Tyre technology is pretty complex and there is no reason a sole supplier can provide different types of tyres for different teams (They already do). Back when Senna was at his peak it was possible to mix coumpounds on your car. Senna was the absolute master at this (although that wont be allowed anymore). The only thing a sole supplier stops is a situation like Indy last year where one tyre is far superior to another on a single track (ok Indy was an extreme example). I'd rather see teams winning on other reasons rather than their tyres were more suitable anyway.

I can see the advantages of it, I just think it's a loss to the sport as I always liked how different teams had to make differing strategies due to their tyres.

It's just another thing pushing F1 teams closer in terms of performance, I think in reaction to the dominance of the Ferrari years. The last 2 seasons have been closer, but notas close as I'd like them to be.

And the Toyotas and the Hondas are also developing fast to transform themselves from mid-fielders to front-runners.

That's what they want you to think ;).

I've also heard something, in regards to the tyres, that only one compound tyre will be available for each race starting in 2008. Is that a load of garbage or is there some truth to it?

Picking the right tyre compounds is another interesting part of F1, I've heard nothing of it though.

Moving a little backward from the time of discussion ;),
French Grand Prix Qf is tommorrow. I just got a feeling that this will be MacLaren's race.
