Group B - 9th Match Netherslands v Pakistan

Fawad Alam should be playing. It's a no brainer really. I don't know what Pakistan is thinking.

But you lost against a good team? Its only cause we messed it up that you'll probably end up getting knocked out. So there pakistan.

It never looked like they are playing to win the game. They didn't even try to hit agressive shots even having enough wickets in hand..

I felt already at the start the wrong decision was made: Pakistan decided to bowl. But England made a comeback and the players, which I expected to play, did appear.

I still don't understand why Arafat is starting as opening bowler. And I just seeing in the scorecard that Tanvir didn't even play. Next match Arafat and Aamer need to be replaced.

Well, that was more like it! It's frustrating how we can go from being beaten by the Netherlands (although we were excellent in the first ten batting overs) to turning in a performance like that, one that would've maybe taken care of most of the sides in the tournament.

So, we're through now, for sure?

Yes, we are, we play South Africa at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Wow, it looks like Pakistan might face the prospect of elimination so early. A 48 run defeat has pushed them so much in trouble. Just calculated the run rates, and it seems Pakistan need to win by atleast 40-50 odd runs against Netherlands if they have to progress to the next round (if Pakistan score 200 in their 20 overs, they have to beat Netherlands by 51 runs [ie. if Netherlands play all their 20 overs]). Since this is a T20, that sounds unlikely to me because even a minnow side can beat a big side and in T20's such margins are rare to see.

Great turnaround by England. Finally, they took it serious and brought back Pietersen.

Wouldn't it be 25 runs they need to win by?

Yeah, I made a mistake. I did not re-calculate the run rate for Netherlands (since they will also be involved in the same game). I guess you might be right. 25 is still a big margin in a T20. Seeing the way Pakistan have played in England so far (incl. the warmup games), its a tough job ahead of them.

It would be sad if we don't make it, but I have never attached too much importance to Twenty20 cricket, as it is fun cricket. I mean it is more for entertainment, even if it is international cricket. It is all for the crowd - Younis Khan

Before the start of the tournament, this guy said that it would be quite an achievement for his team if they made it to the final four. He also said that his mates cried when Pakistan lost that final to India in 2007. And now after a single defeat, he is washing off Twenty20 cricket as "just for the crowd without any importance to the players"??

I wouldn't back Pakistan to beat any associate nation after what happened against Ireland in 2007.
They certainly wouldn't have favourable odds. Before the tournament I noted Pakistan as a prime candidate for an early exit, but that assessment was based on the fact that Pakistan have a tendency to score 130-150 and rely on their bowlers, something that doesn't look like working for them in current conditions. Considering how the Netherlands have actually demonstrated both the ability to chase down 150+ and also restrict decent batsmen on a good surface in the final overs, all they need against Pakistan is early wickets.

Eng win by 48 runs thanks to KP,Wright,S Broad..so for now they are still alive in competetion...

I can see the Netherlands beating Pakistan if they perform like they did in the 1st match. Pakistan is well off the pace this year, would be surprised if they caused any problems in the Super 8 if they made it.

As far I think it effects. It was same rule in IPL and loosing wickets was affecting their NRR.

It never does. You have to get your NRR basics sorted.
