World Cup Group B - Pool Matches Discussion Thread

A good test that India got today and our batting didn't look upto the mark! We might need this test if we ever play at Eden Park, Auckland where Australia and NZ played out that low scoring classic. On pitches like this, Dhoni should bat Rahane at the top ahead of either Rohit or Dhawan. Likely in place of Dhawan. You need solid technically sound guys at the top when the conditions are challenging.

Happy that Dhoni got a good workover with the bat. His solidity in ODI's when things go wrong is always valuable. Very good work from our bowlers, but I wish we could have got WI for even lower (after we had them for 88-7). We still need the "death bowling" test in one of the two upcoming games.

Maybe but Holder is a very good batsman, so I wouldnt say that the Indian death bowling was all that bad.

(after we had them for 88-7)
85-7.

Yes agreed to you about the tail batting which scored 94 in the it could have been much less than that.

Taylor, Roach and Holder had more than 5 overs left among them. Had even one of them bowled in place of the dibbly dobblies that Smith bowled, this game could have gone a lot closer. When the 6th wicket fell, India still needed 40 odd runs with only 4 wkts left. As a decent bowling/fielding side, that's more than defendable.

I think with MSD there India would have win in any case but as I posted earlier on this thread it seems the West Indian players just want to get on a plane out of there. As much as I would have liked India to lose I am glad they didnt.

Another good match for the boys. It is really refreshing to see our opening bowlers steaming in and bowling with some gas and accuracy. Mohit also has been a very good backup and has made sure that he keeps the pressure on the batsmen which was initially created by Shami and Yadav. Ashwin has suddenly found his groove and is bowling exceptionally. Early wickets mean it was a chance for lower middle order to perform, however, Jadeja was against disappointing with bat. Sometimes, it seems like he does not have enough temperament to even last 5 overs. He really needs to step up in his batting. He had a chance today to finish it off with Dhoni but threw it away again. Raina was very poor against short balls and that is nothing new. Consistent amount of short pitch bowling at him puts him under pressure and he loses where his off stump is and has a go at every single ball. In the end, it was good to see MS Dhoni get some runs and he got to spend some time in the middle. Also, really poor captaincy from Holder in last few overs when he threw the ball to Samuels when he had all his fast bowlers yet to finish their overs.

Rahane dismissal was pretty much similar as Umar Akmal's against India. Not enough evidence to overturn the decision but still given out.

I also never understand the ways of the SIR, i mean the guy has 3 triple century in first class, it may be on the flattest pitches against mediocre bowling, but he should have had some level of temperament to knuckle down those triples and we cant even see a glimpse/shred of it the way he is playing!

To me, Jadeja started off pretty well and was working up to get a good innings going before he perished to the short ball. With the games at Gabba and Perth being done and dusted, the only possibility for India to play in a bowling friendly conditions is Eden Park, Auckland (where we play Zimbabwe in the last league game and also possibly in one of the semifinals if we get to that particular semifinal). All the other games are expected to be in good batting friendly conditions (I hear that Seddon Park is a good place for batting).

Jadeja bowled well today too and his ground fielding is excellent. I would give the guy time. I don't see Axar or Binny replacing him at this point in the tournament unless there is an injury. Maybe Binny can play for Jadeja in our last league match at Eden Park.

no im still playing jadeja ahead of axar or binny for WC for his bowling experience and fielding plus whatever he slogs with the bat, just saying he just doesn't seem to have any evidence of temperament of a guy who has scored a triples in FC! Today all he had to do was hang around and runs would have came! The number of Flashing hard just meant it was trial of probability before he got out!

The thing is, I haven't seen much help for spinners from NZ pitches. The grounds are much smaller in NZ compared to Australia so I won't be surprised if Binny comes in place of Jadeja. However, it's hard to see Dhoni dropping someone from a winning combination unless they are injured.

I think this Indian team will be in the final come March 28th. They are playing excellent right now. They got tested today but they found a way to get the win.

AB 1-34(5). Awesome all round player.

yes giving up eight an over with awful half trackers and getting a fluke wicket proves that you're an all rounder

think it would have to be boom boom's day if Pak need to have a chance for victory[DOUBLEPOST=1425703493][/DOUBLEPOST]they have to score as much as possible in the next few overs available, after reduction

Here we are! Even if we loose this match from here, it will be a great boost for this Pakistan team. I and 200 million people back in Pakistan wanted Sarfraz to play in this Worldcup and what a performance he has shown so far with bat and behind the wickets. Wahab is a team player and with his tail up we can find another Wasim of 92.
