Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez shocked Liverpool fans today after he announced in a short statement he was leaving the club.

Rafael Benitez said:
I regret to announce I am leaving the club immediately. My family in Spain are going through a tough time after my brother died. He was the greatest matador in Spain... until the bull trampled him to death. I have enjoyed my time here and hope to return one day, as a fan or as a coach.

Rick Parry said:
We are so sorry to see Rafa leave. He will always have a place in our hearts here at Liverpool. Thank you.

Oh and Alan Hansen will be the new manager.

Hansen quickly recieved Chairman David Moores blessing

Unlike the media, Liverpool fans are delighted by the decision.

I'm sad to see Rafa go but Hansen should do really well. Come on you Reds!
Here is the squad Hansen inherits -

More updates later tonight.

I see you joined the club after the start of the FM season, and hence the Rafa outgoing message. Anyways good to see another FM story. Thats a strong squad you have there, and the additional ?12 million should be enough for additional signings, if any. I see the club is content with European Qualification.

Transfer Talk

At new Liverpool manager Alan Hansen's first press conference today, he confirmed he had had an offer on Scott Carson by Wolves but immediately rejected it.

AH said:
Scott is a wonderful goalkeeper for as long as i'm here, I will not sell him.
He also gave mixed messages to unsettled French striker Djbril Cisse saying -

AH said:
Djbril at his best is somebody no defender would like to face, but too often he is not at his best, mainly down to his fitness which we shall work with him on. However we are scouting some strikers and carefully monitoring their progress.
One striker who Liverpool are allegedly tracking is 22-year-old Turkish striker Halil Altintop

At the end of the conference Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard added -
Stevie G said:
To be working with one of my all-time heroes is brilliant. Alan brings so much passion to the club and I have a really good feeling about this season. Hopefully the title is coming home to Anfield.

I would sell Cisse if the offer was good enough. He is too unpredictable for my liking. Altintop would be a good signing, but he should only be considered as a support striker.

Yeah, Altintop will be good for when Gerrard is rested as well as up front, I hope I dont have to pay too much for him

His contract expires next season, so you might get him decently cheap. You might also want to consider Andriy Voronin, should be able to sign him for ?5M.

Had a look at Voronin and he looks good but a bit more expensive, so he's my second choice. Anyway on with the story

Champions League 1st Qualifying Round

Alan Hansen going for a safe rather than spectacular line-up with TNS looking to croud the midfield. Fabio Aurelio and Craig Bellamy handed their debuts

1st Half Report
TNS kick off. After just 3 minutes Liverpool showing good signs. Luis Garcia had a half-chance saved easily. A minute later Gerrard slips through Bellamy but he puts it high and wide. Should be 1-0. 10 minutes gone and Xavi Alonso plays a wonderful 20 yard pass to Craig Bellamy who takes it down on his chest, lets it bounce and lets rip. 1-0 Liverpool. No! Offside flag up, No debut goal for Bellamy. 10 minutes later Steve Finnan whips in a deep cross and Crouch crumbles under pressure from Hill, penalty to Liverpool. Crouch to take... 1-0 cooly slotted home by Crouch. Bellamy and Garcia miss more good chances but in the last minute of the half Craig Bellamy latches onto a headed pass from Alonso, beats the defender and puts it in the top corner, 2-0. Great goal Bellamy. Half-time and Liverpool are in control.

Second half line-up

Change of shape and personell for the 2nd half. Sissoko, Hamman and Cisse replace Gerrard, Bellamy and Garcia.

Second half report
Just 20 seconds gone after Liverpool kick off and Aurelio plays in Risse who finds Crouchs head, but he can't keep it down. Not much happened after that, Crouch denied repeatedly by TNS keeper Holmes, who was in fine form, but in the end its a comfortable 2-0 win for the Reds who will look to cruise through these early qualifying matches.

Over to MOTDs Mark Lawrenson who is talking to Alan Hansen

ML - Easy win today in your first ever game as manager, well done.
AH - Thanks, we played well and fully deserved to win Craig and Fabio did really well on their debuts and it was generally a good day at the office for us.
ML - We've had reports Djibril Cisse has been transfer listed and you've tabled a bid in the region of ?5m for Halil Altintop, can you confirm this?
AH - I'd rather not comment on Djibril's situation but we have put a bid in for Halil.
ML - Thank you and well done again
AH - Cheers
ML - I'm now joined for a quick word by Man of the Match Craig Bellamy. You played really well today, how did it feel to make your Liverpool debut in such a way?
CB - I was thrilled just to be walking out there in a Liverpool shirt, but to score and get man of the match is just outof this world.
ML - Thanks
By the way, when the Premiership starts i'll be doing things like action replays and using real pictures etc but for these games thers no point.

Nice one mate, can I just ask one quick question how do you get the real kits and latest transfers? It would be greatly received by me if you can give a reply. Great story.

Champions League 1st Qualifying Round 2nd Leg

Alan Hansen goes for a much more adventurous 4-2-3-2 formation tonight as he looks to try out some more attacking options. TNS stick with the 4-5-1 tactics.

Match Report

Two Peter Crouch goals on 26 and 35 minutes gave Liverpool a safe passage into the second qualifying round. Liverpool were excellent in the first half, creating many chances, it could have been 6-0. The second half was almost identical to that of the first leg. It was a dreary affair, both sides packing the midfield and creating few opportunities. Peter Crouch missed 2 glorious chances to get his hattrick. Not even triple substions from both sides could liven things up.

In Other News

Turkish forward Halil Altintop agreed personal terms with Liverpool and was unveiled at Anfield hours after the team returned from the TNS match.

(Bit of a copy from Sid's idea with Kev in his thread;))

Halil said:
I very happy to be here. I hope to score lots of goals.
