Harmison Retires From ODIs

Oh well Harmy wasn'y THAT effective in ODI's anyway for England....And it's not like they were gonna win the World Cup with him anyways:)

On one hand they say he doesnt bowl enough,
And now hes retired from ODI cricket?
I dont believe his excuse,
He must really feel homesick,
Theres no point taking him anywhere now
Just play him for home tests and thats it,
This goes to prove that the players are pampered too much nowadays
If this was in the 80/90's then they would have been forced to play or get dropped
And why the hell were they allowed home after ICC Champions Trophy?
Look at the Windies for Example- How long has it been since they came to Asia?

Well back to topic now,

he really shouldnt have retired from ODI Cricket

county season is still months away so i dread to think whats gonna become of him now

I'd put this down to media pressure as much as anything. He's had the whole world on his back saying how bad he's been that it's bound to affect him. I just think he knows that he doesn't need the hassle.

Let's make one thing clear though, the England ODI team needs Harmison a lot more than Harmison needs the England ODI team and for that reason (selfish I know) I'm dissapointed, but I don't blame him.

He has a knack of taking wickets even if being expensive, his ODI form shows great at home averages around 24 put poor away where he averages mid 40s.

We need wicket takers in ODI cricket, maybe if Monty becomes a full member we might be alright.

I think Harmison would've done well because his action has got better since the start of the tour and Harmison can be effective in ODIs.

A specialist spinner is good.
A test spinner isn't. Monty seems an all out test-bowler. Needs more OD games, but he'll be alright in a few years.
But Harmy!
At this rate, before the end of the season the likes of Raina and Monty will be retiring too!

I'll be intrigued to see how Monty goes in OD cricket, I saw him about 3 times last season for Northants including some 20/20 iirc, he wasn't bowling like how he does in Tests infact he did alright.

Just shows the importance of the ashes to English and Australian players. People may say that its just the same as any other International series, but those people are wrong.
But the ashes shouldn't be so important as to make every other series irrelevant. And this flux of retirements shows that that seems to be the case with Australia and England. Australia have so far coped well because they have matchwinners, but with McG and Warnie gone, I think there will be a slight drop in their consistency. As for England, I think they are finding out that winning consistently is what allowed them to regain the Ashes. Since the last Ashes, they have not been performing too well--even having a difficult time at home against Sri Lanka.

Flux of retirements? It was bound for some Aussies to retire after this Ashes and as they don't play another Test after this series for nigh on a year. The Ashes is the pinnacle for Aussies and Englishman, it doesn't make every other series irrelevant but the Ashes is the top of the rainbow and everyone (from Aus and Eng) wants a piece of it. England have been poor since the Ashes for several reason: Playing poorly, not selecting/being able to select the same team time and again, poor captaincy decisions, etc. England prefer to be the underdogs, winning the Ashes gave more expectancy and it seems the players couldn't cope, getting thumped in this series could oddly do us more good than winning the last Ashes.

Such a young age to retire but clearly Harmy was having problems traveling and his ODI form hasn't been too good of late.
