Hindi Cinema Discussion

meh...its all the same man. seriously, what difference does it make anyway ?
why cant we just rename this thread as the "indian movies discussion" ?
i cringe everytime i read, hear or say "bollywood"!

The name itself highlights the lack of originality in the industry.

agreed.

some brain dead journalist in the seventies thought it'll be a good idea to replace the "H" with a "B". IDIOT ! :doh:facepalm

and its not just the blatant ripping off, it sounds really pathetic too.

the chinese film industry dont label themselves as "Chollywood" or
the french dont call themselves "Follywood".
i can even understand the common man calling it "Bollywood" because he isnt bothered much. but it gets on my nerves when the people
inside the film industry keep referring to our movie industry as "(B)ollywood".

Its not REALLY Bollywood, it's just the slang term. no one wants to keep referring to it as the 'Indian/Hindi Film Industry'.

if you can say bollywood, then how hard it is really to refer to it as hindi films ?

instead of asking, "Hey, did you watch that bollywood film ?"
isnt it better to ask, "Hey, did you watch that Hindi film ?"

Or Indian cinema

I mean every other country is just

French Films
Italian Films
British Films
German Films

and

Indian Films

ta da

Just to let you know the term Bollywood alone makes it a bit of a laughing matter in non-Indian circles. It sure as hell does not help the cause of the few Indian directors who want to create proper films/art

The songs of "Jhoota Hi Sahi" are superb. Its after all, Rahman. After the CWG theme controversy, this is an album that could shut the mouths of critics who keep trying to say that Rahman is over rated, success has gotten to his head, etc. Its all your own lofty expectations that makes you think Rahman doesnt work as good as before.

"Maiya Yashoda", "Do Nishaaniyan" and "Call Me Dil" are the best tracks of the album. "Cry Cry" and "Hello Hello" are good enough too.

Who cares? The Hindi Film Industry is the largest in the world and entertains over a billion people in countries all over the globe. They can laugh all they want...it's not like we need some sort of validation from the West.

95% of hollywood movies are garbage too.

If that is true then 99.99% of Hindi films are rubbish. Also a bit rich saying they don't need validation from the West when they use the name Bollywood and steal just about every single movie idea that comes out from American and British studios

Change it to "Hindi Cinema discussion". There is a seperate thread in here for Tamil Movies discussion. Hindi films in itself warrants a seperate thread. Indian cinema is not all about Hindi films.

Watching Shivaji The Boss on Star Gold now. Till now its real torture.

Most of them are pretty bad, no denying that.

'They' are not using the word Bollywood. You don' seem to get it yet, it's a colloquial term. Its not an official word at all, it's just coined that, for kicks and giggles.

Every American idea? Nah. The best Indian movies are totally original.
And I don't think they're stolen either...they're inspired for sure. But if you watch Momento and then watch Ghajini it is quite different. Surya/Aamir were monsters in Ghajini, the guy in momento was still pretty 'chill'. There's the Indian twist.

But just like you keep saying that people outside India are laughing at Indian Cinema...well they do it for cricket too don't they? Big deal, we all know how good it is.

In Indian Cinema, it's still fun to go out and watch a crap movie. Because even in the absolute badness of it all there is entertainment.

Anyways i'm done with this convo. Any good movies coming out? Really stoked for Anjaana Anjaani.

Watched Wake up Sid again a few days ago. What a fantastic, fresh, awesome movie. Highly recommended.

Not really. I've actually been impressed by the amount of good Hollywood films this year. A lot of people don't watch less known, but really good films, like Winter's Bone.

I don't watch a lot of Bollywood myself. 3 Idiots was of course, brilliant. But, there aren't many that match that film's calibre. Although I'm looking forward to the 3rd Munnabhai, that stuff is hilarious.

South Indian films are wierd, and I say that as a South Indian(of course, brought up in Dubai for the majority of my life, but this place is pretty much Indian). There are some absolutely horrific scenes. Will find them and post them sometime, although I'm sure many Indians might have seen them already. They are funny, in the "wow, this is so horrible, it's funny" way, but I'd rather watch a movie with a proper storyline than a film with horrible, unrealistic stunts.

But, you know, in the end, India's culture and humour is different to Western culture and humour, so I guess if people find it funny, then it's entertainment for them. And I tend to respect their form of entertainment, although I do dislike it.
