Hindi Cinema Discussion

Bigg Boss is the production/direction team, and Salman Khan is paid millions to do what he does. He is an actor, so quite obviously he's acting. I don't think the show is scripted, but that still doesn't make it real.

When the show is low on 'masala', the script comes in. 'Big Boss', the guy who has the right to tell them what to do and creates further controversies. Salman actually has a stupid role to play. The show doesn't depend on a host, but seems to depend on the Salman factor for TRP. The contestants, once they are out, are told all the things that were scripted so that they do not have personal enmity. My friend works for Zoom(a Bollywood news channel.) and told me that Delnaz's mother was paid heavily to say things that would bring Rajeev's reputation down, as he is was an easy target, and that Delnaz and Rajeev, both are still in the house so there can be further controversial statements. Rajeev agreed to this as he would be able to pay off his debts after being paid for this. I was told this around a week back, so this episode must've been aired.

Yeah, that was last episode. Rajeev got really protective and was planning on taking it to court.

Saw the Akshay Kumar n John Abraham starrer "Garam Masala" directed by Priyadarshan.... A Ripper of a Comedy Caper! Made me laugh helluva lot... Superb!! Three :cheers n :thumbs for it!!!

Any reviews on "Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola"? Pretty low hype for the film this time. Taran Adarsh gives a crap review, which Raja Sen gives a great one. Apart from that, other reviews fall on just above average.

Anyone here watched it?

Watched 3 movies recently-

Jab Tak Hai Jaan- Wow, this movie is just awful. Truly mediocre. SRK and Anushka just about save it, but apart from their acting, the storyline was boring, unrealistic, and un-original. The movie was poorly paced and the whole
amnesia storyline
didn't work at all.

The Dirty Picture- This was an amazing movie. Probably Vidya Balan's best movie and certainly up there with the best acting displays by an actress in Bollywood history. The story was engaging and the dialogues top-notch (especially the award ceremony). The pacing of the first half was a little off as she shot to fame with seemingly very little effort. However, her fall was done very well as it was important not to go over the top as I expected it to. It was subtle and gradual. The acting by the rest of the cast (barring Naseeruddin Shah) was quite poor, but Vidya Balan on her own was enough. The songs weren't great and seemed far too long. On the whole though, enjoyable film that you should watch just for Vidya Balan's superb acting.

Talaash- Fantastic film. Aamir, Rani and Kareena were all absolutely brilliant. The end was slightly underwhelming but largely necessary as there was a sense of closure. I thought the first half of the movie went a little too fast with too many characters being introduced but that is often the case with thrillers. At the time, it was unclear as to how all the characters would be brought together to flow and interact. However, the second half did just that, and very well at that. Everything began to fall into place.

I saw JTHJ one more time to see if the first time viewing of mine was due to over expectations from the combo (Yash Chopra, Rahman, SRK, Gulzar) but the movie's impact stays the same. Yashji's final film ended up being very mediocre, which is sad in his case. But I guess the blame goes to Aditya Chopra for coming up with that kind of a story/screenplay. I felt SRK was truly mediocre and has reached a point where he needs to re-invent himself. He is almost getting to that period where Amitabh was when he did "Sooryavansham". In those days, Bollywood market was not as big, and so it kinda forced Amitabh to re-think his path. But will it do the same for SRK? Not sure... SRK needs Chak De India and Swades kinda movies. SRK the star has become stale and boring now.

I thought Katrina was a mighty revelation in the film. She was far less plastic (as she used to be in her films till JTHJ) and she seemed to have opened up more for this film. I somehow love Anushka to the hilt, though some of my friends say that she was too manly (in the way her character was sketched out) in the movie. I like such women, who have a little bit of a male streak in them but yet they are feminine.

Heroine- I felt it was a little long, and it was a poor version of The Dirty Picture. However, there are certain original aspects to the storyline. The acting is pretty poor on the whole but Kareena makes it respectable with one of her best performances. I got a little bored with the story tbh. The scenes weren't linked and just seemed to go from one pointless story to the next.

Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein- Another great low-budget Bollywood movie. A bit corny, and the dialogues get a little repetitive but the message is clear, and the story is heartwarming. It's got a great underlying message with some great acting and a simple, direct, and uncomplicated storyline. At times, fairly identical scenes are used to recycle the same message which makes the movie drag a little bit, but on the whole it's a well-made film without a star-studded cast. Recommended.

Ek Tha Tiger- Average. Action scenes were good, but the movie was fairly predictable throughout. Also, Katrina can't act as I've said for all her movies. On the bright side, it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Wasn't super corny. Salman actually did a decent job (surprising).

Matru ki bijlee ka mandola - Other than brilliant acting and a decent story line, the movie has nothing to offer. Wouldn't recommend a watch, unless you're a Pankaj Kapoor/Anushka fan.

There's nothing binding the two. If you see, all the three have done a good job individually, but once the movie is over, you know you're not satisfied. The story is stretched and gets boring regularly at intervals. Around 20 minutes short, the movie would've been better. The story is itself very very predictable, so you know whats happening next.

Katrina can't act, and she never has.

Bodyguard- This movie reached new levels of mediocrity and atrociousness that even Ra One and Jab Tak Hai Jaan can't surpass. I guess Salman is decent, but the storyline is god awful, he is a bodyguard for all of 2 minutes in a 2 hour movie, the plot is highly predictable, and there is no link between the action story (which surprisingly (probably unsurprisingly since it's a Bollywood movie) takes a backseat in a movie called 'Bodyguard') and the love story.
