Hindi Cinema Discussion

"Special Chabbis" (Special 26)! One word - B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T!! One of the best films in recent times. To me, it was as good as "A Wednesday". Maybe others might like Wednesday more and give it preferential treatment because its climax tingles at emotions, but Special Chabbis is a different kind of a story but the pacing, the suspense and the screenplay are all as classic and beautiful as "A Wednesday". The movie moves at breakneck speed in the second half. First half being good is half the job done, second half being good is almost the entire job done. Special Chabbis ticks the second box.

Top notch performances from all the cast, especially the lead cast of Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpayee. Especially Anupam Kher and Manoj have a ball. Akshay Kumar is superbly restrained and delivers a surprisingly very good performance. The hero of the film is the background score, which is mind blowing. It perfectly captures the 80's era, and yet gels superbly with the thriller element of the film. Only blemish is the romantic track and the unnecessary songs that act as minor speed breakers. And Kajal Agarwal is there to make sure Akshay Kumar's image trappings are satisfied.

Must Watch! Director Neeraj Pandey (of 'A Wednesday' fame) delivers another classic! Definitely a big guy to watch out for!

P.s: Want to talk more about the film, but I will spoil the suspense for many, so will wait 2-3 weeks to talk.

4.5/5

Saw Housefull 1 and Housefull 2 a few weeks ago as well. Absolute bakwaas films but they were entertaining in bits. Aakhri Pasta, the tiger scene, when the father in law thought they were gay. The first one was funnier than the second, although I didn't understand why they used the same actors in different roles.

You're pretty strong, shravi. After 1, I didn't even try Part-2. I have made it a motto not to watch any Sajid Khan films from now on. His films are just downright ridiculous, in the name of comedy.

Desi Boyz- Heh. Silly movie, corny dialogues, average acting, and relies more on the actors' & actress' looks more than it does on the plot. The plot itself was predictable, and unrealistic. Good pass-time movie, but that's about it.

Watched A.B.C.D. Good dances sets, but beware - there's no acting! The movie plainly runs on dance and 20 minutes before the end you find yourself a bit bored, but then comes the final dance. I particularly liked the lighting and visual effects in 3D. And for this who wish to know, this movie isn't for those who have no interest in dance, not at all.

Heyy Babyy was a great movie. It's just that all the comedies in the past few years have been downright ridiculous.

Well the movie was critically acclaimed, but I still haven't figured out why.

It could have been because Priyanka Chopra played around 7 different characters in the movie. Also, the same has been based on Ruskin Bond's book and that may be one of the reasons it is such a hit.

Btw, I ended up watching AkaashVani. Pretty pathetic, basic movie with not much of a story.

There's a difference between playing 7 different characters which was her requirement, and doing it well, which would have been down to her acting prowess. She didn't do a great job, she just did what was already in the script.

I'm really looking forward to watch the movie Kaipo che. The songs are very good and the storyline seems quite different. I haven't read any of the Chetan Bhagat's novel btw.
