ICC 06 Monthly Challenge

No fun in losing...:P Managed to draw comfortably against Surrey, could have won, but Mahmood got the tail going for them
Embarrassing loss v Yorkshire, Botha and Welch were the only batsmen to stay in, and they didn't score quick enough. And an embarrassing loss v Glamorgan, just couldn't get anything going. How did you guys do v Sri Lanka? I played my 2nd team and lost by only an innings and 360 runs (and 5 wickets in the first innings before they declared)

I just beat Yorkshire in a game where i think the toss was crucial. I also managed to get the 100 challenge done thanks to a century from Adnan who's in superb form for me.

I won the toss and batted against Yorkshire. Di Venuto got 75, while Taylor got 53 not out and got help from Pipe with 35 and Lungley with 20 not out. So I got my way to 245-8. Decent total but they were favourites to chase it down and they did. Despite good bowling from Dean and Rafferty, they chased it down with 7 balls spare.

Then I lost heavily to a Sri Lanka side who had Murali and co in their side.

Then onto the County Championship game against Glamorgan. I won the toss, 100% record of that:D and batted again. Chris Taylor carried on his good form from the one day game and made 64. Before Welch and Stubbings got together I was struggling a bit at 155-4. But they shared a 209 run partnership as both of them got hundreds. Botha got 46 batting at 8, which I was pleased about and I finished on 470, which mean half of one of the criteria was completed. Then thanks to 2 wickets a piece for Dean and Rafferty and 5-40 from Botha, I managed to bowl Glamorgan out for 217 and made them follow-on. Then despite 75 from Mark Wallace batting at 8 and 45 from Davies batting at 10, I bowled them out for 248. Dean took 4-68 and Rafferty took 3 and I had won by an innings and 5 runs.:D

spanked the Welsh and then i lost to Leicestershire. What a shame :p

Well I got inhalated by the sri lankans, although the two spinners that caused hell in the first innings were played pretty well inthe second and i did manage to get a very decent partnership together.

derbyvsrilanka3rdgamefl1.png

Then came the chance to get a first win of the season against Glamorgan. On a batters track I won the toss and put ourselves into bat. Adnan came in and hit a very good 120 in partnership to travis birt who hit a good 50. We got up to 385 and gave us a very good chance of winning it. We got a lot of wickets at crucial times and apart from Watkins batting nearly the whole way through making a well played 113, we managed to dismiss them for 228 and enforce the follow-on. Again we took frequent wickets with Welch and Lungley getting 3 each as they managed to give us a score of 91 to win. We managed to do it with only 1 wicket down and Di Venuto 48* and Adnan 30* cruised us to victory by 9 wickets :)

derbyvglamorgan4thgameuc0.png

Plus points: Great batting first up, made use of the conditions well. Got a century that set us up with a good total of 385. Bowled excellently in both innings and got frequent wickets at crucial times. Finished off the job with only 1 wicket down.

Minus Points: None, Very well played!

Overall Summary: Great performance all round

Next game was against Leicestershire in the Challenge Trophy, I won the toss once again and this time decided to send Leicestershire in to bat. This worked as I bowled them out for 180 in 44.1 Overs, Maddy made 87 for them. Then I went out and attacked. I hammered Asif for 2-62 from 10 and Broad was wicketless:p (Joe) with 0-55 from 10. I was in slight trouble at 15-2 but Adnan and Taylor were fantastic with a 161 run partnership. Adnan got out 3 short of his century (disapointing as it was one of the criteria) but Taylor stayed unbeaten on 61 not out and guided us home.

Then I had to play Worceestershire at New Road in a County Championship match. I won the toss again and this time decided to have a bat. My innings consisted of 6 people making 50's. The openers, Di Venuto and Birt put on 92 for the 1st wicket, Birt got 50 with Di Venuto carrying on to get 91. Then Stubbings, Welch and Pipe all got half centuries and I was 364-8. However then, thanks to a brilliant 9th wicket partnership of 82 and a 10th wicket partnership of 38, I made 484 all out. Botha batting at 8, made 91 not out.

They started their innings brilliantly with a 165 run 1st wicket partnership between openers Jacques and Moore. Moore got 95 and Jacques got 108. A lot of other batsmen got starts for them, but didn't carry on. I bowled them out for 394 with Lungley getting my best bowling figures of 3-85.

It was halfway through day 3 by this stage so with a lead of 90, I decided to go out have an attacking session of batting and then declare. Birt carried out this plan incredibly, bring his 100 up from 58 balls and then finishing on 140 not out from 121 balls, which Adnan made 54 from 35. Then on 262-6, I declared, leaving the whole 4th day to bowl Worcestershire out again. They needed 353 to win.

Despite 63 from Moore, I always looked likely to win and I did it easily in the end with 5-66 from Dean, 3-62 from Botha and 2-51 from Lungley. Rafferty got injured in their first innings and will be out for 4 weeks:( But thats 3 CC wins out of 3 so I'm pretty happy.

Well done Phil :clap
You have already past 2 targets getting 3 positive results and making 2 scores of 450+ :)

Great work everyone :cheers

Well a great first game with lots of plus with the opening partnreship going over 100, wont write too much as trying to catch up

cricket2007040218112335et9.png

Plus Points: Scored 500+, Won the game, Took wickets with seam and spin, opening batsmen made 150+ and 46*, plus more

Negative Points: One big partnership in 1st innings.

another win?! i am on a winnning streak and beating you all and chased a high score for 50 overs but chased it easily*cough cough* good batting by upper order and one of their guys, can't remember who, probaly , scored 2 sixes in an over!

Next up Warwickshire at Edgbaston in the Challenge Trophy. For the first time in the series I lose the toss and am fielding first. I restricting Warwickshire to 166-8 with Dean taking 3-31 from 10 overs and 2-35 from 10 for Jones who replaced the injured Rafferty.

I chased the target in 32.4 Overs, for the loss of just one wicket. Di Venuto made 123 from 107 balls, with 20 fours and 1 six! So I've passed a target for a century in the Challenge Trophy! Adnan was slow in comparison, finishing with 40 not out from 82 deliveries.

The I played against Leicestershire in the County Championship. For the second game in a row I had lost the toss and been forced to field. I did well and restricted them to 297 all out, after they collapsed from 240-3 to 255-8. Batsman Stubbings took 3 wickets for me with his off-spin.

Then I disappointed when batting as I could only make 254 all out, despite a lot of starts and 69 from Birt. Asif took 4-68 while Broad took 2-75.

Then when batting again, Leicestershire escaped from 228-8 to 289 all out, mainly thanks to 94 not out from Aftab Habib. Kevin Dean took 5-92.

I had a day to chase 333 to win, after early wickets and me falling to 66-4 I decided to defend the day out, with 1 and a half sessions left and me 7 wickets down I thought I didn't stand a chance. However then Botha and Jones put on 78 for the 8th wicket. However when Jones went for 41 from 99 deliveries and then Lungely went for a 14 ball duck, I looked out of it again. I had about 6 overs to bat out. And I managed it to the last over when Dean got out for 1 from 12 balls. Botha finished on 35 not out from 183 balls. It was nearly a great rear guard but was cruelly taken away from me late on. Still a good match.

right then here we go, ive ment to start this since it was posted but only just got round to it.

1st match - Surrey,
my team - venuto, birt, adnan, stubbings, gray, welch, pipe, botha, jones, lungley, dean

i acheived a draw and im quite happy with that start thankyou vey muchly, could of been more!!! i lost the toss and was sent out to bowl, AND BOWL WE DID, first session went like a dream, had them at 111-5, my choice of 4 main bowlers and 2 allrounders looking inspired at this point and my players having a couple of well deserved oranges and even a pack of jaffa cakes during lunch as congrats at such a great start, this was a mistake, surrey recoved somewhat to finish there innings at 369 all out! mark butcher getting 166! dammit, no more jaffa cakes for that lot!
my innings started pretty good too, raced along to 107-1, im a happy captain again, but whats this, all out 266, the less said the better, stubbing hitting 93 the only innings of note after the openers. 103 behind

surrey raced along to 214-2 in the 2nd innings, eventually declaring on 292-6, leaving me 395 to win, 2 sessions left, played for the draw, finished on 180-3 with venuto making 73 not out.

overall we bowled well in sections, mainly 1 session of the game, and started the 1st innings well, but the middle order didnt hold up to well and my spinners failed, didnt think i would win this game so a drw was what i set out for, ok start to the season.

2nd match - yorkshire challenge trophy
my team - venuto, birt, adnan, stubbings, france, borrington, gray, welch, sheikh, pipe, jones

i deceided to play 3 allrounders and only one specialist bowler, ill find a secent part time bowler in this team i tell you!

lost the toss and put in to bat, and having reconised batsmen down to number 9 paid off! made 325 for 8 with 2 centurys, birt hit 130 off 131 balls and france hit 113 of 103 balls. great score, simple expecting yorkshire to come out all guns blazing and should pice up some of the top order batsmen then can put on my part time bowlers when ive got 5 or 6 wickets, thats the theory!
didnt happen like that did it!
nope, they came out all guns blazing all right, but i didnt get the wickets as quick as id hoped, eventually they came, and a run out put them under pressure after 2 quick wickets, but they hit my parttimers all over the park, and at one point i really thought id lost it, they got the run rate below 6 with about 10 overs left!!!! untill craig white picded up a couple of quick wickets and it was all kine, just had to knock over hoggard, should be easy last wicket, 35 needed off 5 overs! hoggard hit 14 befour he finally fell! bowled by welch with the score on 319, they needed 7 off 8 balls! much releif allround, a win! and i have allready acheived one of ther targets in a century in a challage trophy game :)

How do u take screenshots because in a chalenge trophy game Yorkshire got a score of 7/307 (a youth player called Bull got 4-37) of their 50 overs and then my Derbyshire chased it down with 3 overs and 8 wickets left. 125 n.o. for Di Venuto and Adnan got 132 with only one LBW chance. I know it is hard to believe though.... without a screenshot. How do u guys do it?
