1 Down 4 To Go For Australia

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 5/272 - 84 overs

Stumps - Day 1

Hussey 94(172)*
Gilchrist 34(47)*

Pathan 1/24
Patel 1/59
Harbhajan Singh 0/44
Kumble 2/94
Tendulkar 1/34

A sleeply night will await Mike Hussey on an unbeaten 94 that has saved Australia from being dangerously behind the 8 ball in this match and the series. Adam Gilchrist has partnered Hussey in vital 68 run unbeaten partnership.

The one big let off came when Gilchrist was dropped by the keeper Dhoni when his score had just ticked over to 11. A big oppertunity missed because we have seen what Gilchist can do once he has been given another chance. India might not get another one for a long time now.

Gilly dropped now he needs to make them pay

Anil Kumble did alot of the bowling with his 28 overs. Spin took up 54 of the days overs that just goes to show how much spin this pitch is taking in the early stages of this match. A crucial first session follows Australia tomorrow as we see if Hussey can keep his country in the series.

Hussey Breaksthrough and Gilchrist Departs

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 6/288 - 91 overs

11:27am - Day 2

Hussey 100(191)*
Gilchrist 42(70)

Pathan 2/28
Patel 1/70
Harbhajan Singh 0/44
Kumble 2/94
Tendulkar 1/34

A very eventful over has seen the euphoria of a Mike Hussey hundred and the breath taking low of a classic catch in the cordin to dismiss Gilchrist.

Hussey finally brought up the milestone which is his first of the ICC Best Of The Rest Championship after a long hard effort at the crease. His innings could not have come at a better time with Australia having there back against the wall. Hussey was ecstatic upon bringing up three figures.

Hussey svaes Australia with a maiden tournament ton

After being dropped on 11 Pathan finally got the job done for India. A good length ball that nipped away from Gilchrist took the edge and Sehwag did the rest with a blinding catch diving away to his left.

Hussey Stands Tall As House Falls Down

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 7/306 - 97 overs

11:55am - Day 2

Hussey 105(207)*
Warne 13(20)

Pathan 2/33
Patel 1/70
Harbhajan Singh 0/53
Kumble 3/98
Tendulkar 1/34

Mike Hussey is proving to be the only man that can stand up and fight off the Indian attack as Kumble takes the wicket of Warne. A strong LBW shout against the champion leg spinner was upheld by umpire Aleem Dar and Warne is on his bike. Warne was caught playing across the line to leg stump ball however one could argue that the timber would not have been distured because of the massive amounts of spin this pitch is giving.

Australia need tailenders to stick with Mike Hussey now and Mike will need a big hundred if Australia are to achieve upwards of 350. Lee, Clark and Tait are the batsman to come but are they capable of staying with Hussey against this sharp bowling attack.

Another Man Down Before Lunch

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 8/356 - 112 overs

Lunch - Day 2

Hussey 127(252)*
Lee 20(32)

Pathan 2/33
Patel 1/70
Harbhajan Singh 0/58
Kumble 4/122
Tendulkar 1/55

Anil Kumble picks up his 4th wicket on the way to lunch. Brett Lee was bowled around his leg trying to sweep the top spinner but lost his middle stump. Mike Hussey wil really need to start playing some shots as we cant expect this tailend to stick around long especially with Shaun Tait in next.

Australia have taken there time accumulating there runs to this point. They have gotten back into the game through Hussey and now need to finsh off there innings well hopefully for a total of 370 - 400. It would be my guess that Kumble will continue after lunch in a quest to bag 5.

Hell For Leather Hussey Departs As Does Australias innings

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia All Out 368 - 115 overs

1:53pm - Day 2

Mike Hussey's unforgettable knock eventually came to an end as he was trying to up the tempo to score quick runs before he ran out of partners. Mr Cricket proved just that as he played awesome cricket throughout his stay at hotel Kolkata but was finally caught plating a flat sweep shot where Patel took a well judged catch. That makes 5 for Kumble and a good effort for the spinner.

A good catch and persistant bowling is the death of Hussey

Clark went not long after to conclude the Australian innings. Attempting a cheeky single when Dhoni made them look foolish disturbing the timber to leave Clark well short but hey thats Tait's calling between wickets for you. The players head to the changing rooms to prepare for the Indian 1st innings as Kumble agknowledges the crowd for his 5 wicket haul.

The scorecard tells us that Australia had trouble early before the middle and lower order dug them out of the hole.

Change Of Innings

Michael Holding has managed to get a few quick words out of Mike Hussey before te change of innings on the match state and his innings.

Mike Hussey said:
Well when i came to the crease India had control of the game so it was just a matter of waiting out that initial period in hope that i could cash in later and it just happend that way. We have a very good total on the board now and i feel that Warney will have a big impact on this one with the amount of spin on offer out there.

Lets have a look at the Australian attack that will be looking to set up the match for the visitors in this next innings. Just three of there bowlers have played in matches in this championship prior as Tait and Clark make there debut.

Australia Get There First

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 1/50 - 16 overs

3:06pm - Day 2

Jaffer 12(50)*
Sehwag 38(45)

Lee 0/12
Clark 0/21
Tait 0/11
Warne 1/6

India trail by 318 runs

It was a frustrating start for Australia as they watched Sehwag edge through and over slips on the way to 38. Sehwag was his typical aggressive self as he left nothing to chance. Or did he leave it all to chance? Either way.

A frustrated Shaun Tait after he'd just been hit for a top edge six over 3rd man

Ricky Ponting had enough and brought on Shane Warne.

When the going gets tough turn to Shane Warne

In just the 5th ball of his fist over Warne had his man. A ripping leg spinner bounced just enough on Sehwag to get the toppish edge to Hussey at mid wicket and India are 1 down. Rahul Dravid is the new man in and has been struggling so far on this tour with scores of 20 and 0 in the first test and a poor ODI series before that.

Warne provides for Australia when no one else could step up

Jaffer is being dominated by the ball and will need to break free soon or it wont be long before he is in the shed.

Australia Send Out A Warne-ing

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 2/93 - 26 overs

4:04pm - Day 2

Jaffer 22(74)
Dravid 32(37)*

Lee 0/12
Clark 0/21
Tait 0/23
Warne 2/28
Symonds 0/8

India trail by 275 runs

Shane Warne picks up his second wicket just minutes into the fianl session of day 2 here in Chennai. Jaffer was the man to go after a start of 22 however he never looked convincing. Mike Hussey did the catching practise again taking a diver away to his right at mid wicket.

Australia ned a few more wckets quickly or they could lose first innings points again. What a series this is proving to be between these two top of the table teams who have amassed 14 points a peice in the ICC Best Of The Rest Championship standings. Could we be seeing a preveiw of the final in this series.

Sloon Knocks Down The Castle

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 3/165 - 40 overs

5:07pm - Day 2

Dravid 55(75)
Tendulkar 48(42)*

Lee 0/38
Clark 0/26
Tait 1/27
Warne 2/60
Symonds 0/13

India trail by 203 runs

Just when it looked like the skipper Dravid was playing himself back into form with a classic knock Shaun Tait went through him. Proving that theres no place to hide in test cricket and theres no time for complacency. No one knows for sure what Dravid was tinking but it looked very leg side as he took a step infront of off and lost his leg stump.

Tait gets the breakthrogh for Australia

Tendulkar is in career best form at the moment and has not given Australia half a chance yet. The little master has targeted the pacmen through cover and point and is moving along at faster then a run a ball.

Can this man stand in the way of Australias attempt to take control at Chennai

Yuvraj Singh comes to the crease to join Laxman. This partnership has given Australia nightmares in the series so far what will it offer this time. Yuvraj will be a massive wicket for Australia.

Tendulkar 99* But Its Australia Who Are Really Hurting

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 3/248 - 52 overs

Stumps - Day 2

Tendulkar 99(81)*
Laxman 29(37)*

Lee 0/38
Clark 0/62
Tait 1/42
Warne 2/82
Symonds 0/23

India trail by 120 runs

Australia is in shock as Sachin Tendulkar amazed the Chennai crowd with class and ass combined for an unbeaten 99 at stumps. The last ball of the day was feilded just inside the rope to leave Tendulkar one short of a memorbale ton that he deserves. Australia in big trouble as they are playing from behind again in this series.

Australia must get a few wickets early tomorrow morning or they will be facing a massive uphill battle. Plenty of time left in this match so you would be picking India to go 1 nil up in the series. Can Australia fight back yet again?
