Hussey Gone For The Greater Good

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 5/365 - 95 overs

4:21pm - Day 4

Ponting 121(162)*
Hussey 57(82)

Pathan 0/101
Patel 1/67
Tendulkar 2/119
Harbhajan Singh 2/32
Kumble 0/33

Australia lead by 317 runs

Mike Hussey has been caught out trying to take the aerial route in a quest for quick runs after he reched 50. Australia is in need of Adam Gilchrist to step up and score a quick fire 50 if they are to have enough runs in the bank to win.

Mike Hussey out chasing bigger things

Ponting Declares....But Do They Have Enough?

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Australia 6/400 - 101 overs

5:04pm - Day 4

India require 353 runs to win

Well Ricky Ponting has declared at Chennai after the loss of Adam Gilchrist with a 353 run lead. It is very doubtable whether that is enough to win this match so it will very interesting to see what Ponting said to Michael Holding after Holding congratulated him on a superb ton.

Ricky Ponting walks off after declaring with an hour to play

Ricky Ponting said:
Yeah thanks Mike its good to finally score a few in such an important situation. I just couldnt wait any longer. We have a 50/50 chance here but we are running out of time so i cant die wondering. We werent going to take any points away with a draw so we might aswell attack and go for the win. If we pick up a couple early tonight it will make things very interesting going into the final day.

There you have it Australia declares with just under an hour to play on day 4. Can Jaffer and Sehwag last untill stumps because if they do you would back India as big favourites to wi the match. The most important hour of the series and the whole ICC Best Of The Rest Championship is coming up so dont miss it.

India In The Drivers Seat

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 0/48 - 13 overs

Stumps - Day 4

Jaffer 22(38)*
Sehwag 25(40)*

Lee 0/17
Tait 0/14
Clark 0/16
Warne 0/1

India require 305 runs to win

It looks like the controvericial decison to declare from Ricky Ponting hasnt paid off and India are in a very strong position to win this match. Batting on an absolute road and needing just over 300 on the final day shouldnt be a problem from here. Australia threw everything at India for 13 overs but they withstood the likes of Lee, Tait, Clark and even an over from Warne.

Ponting looks to the sky for answers that will get Australia back in the 2nd test

Australia must strike early tomorrow and they need a few. This is a true test of Pontings captaincy as he needs to go on the attack no matter what because Australia just dont have the runs on the board.

Clark Stirs The Pot

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 2/50 - 16 overs

11:09am - Day 5

Jaffer 22(41)
Sehwag 27(43)*
Dravid 0(10)

Lee 0/18
Tait 0/14
Clark 2/17
Warne 0/1

India require 303 runs for victory

Well well well Stuart Clark has thrown the cat amounst the pidgoens at Chennai with a double breakthrough. Amazingly Clark picked up Jaffer with the 3rd ball of the day. Jaffer rotated the hips through the shot to early and gave catching practice to Tait.

Jaffer has a brain explosion on 22

Dravid made another short impresion this time a 10 ball duck awaited him after Clark got throygh his defences.

Sehwag is joined by Tendulkar for what couldbe the most important partnership of the match. If Australia can get Tendulkar early they are a big chance to win but it wont be easy.

Good stuff :)

I reckon the Aussies have a good chance of winning this. Another wicket would definitely help us.

Warne Turns The Series Upside Down

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 4/189 - 33 overs

12:24pm - Day 5

Sehwag 88(88)
Tendulkar 74(54)*
Laxman 0(1)

Lee 0/52
Tait 0/38
Clark 2/59
Warne 2/37
Hodge 0/2

India require 164 runs to win

Just when it was getting imbarrasing for Australia and just when they had no answer and India through Sehwag and Tendulkar were cruising to victory Shane Warne stepped in.

Is there anything that Warney cant do?

With 2 balls Warne has changed the match. Warne claimed 2 wickets to be on a hatrick. The first was prize scalp Sehwag for 88. Sehwag was in super form with the blade going at a run a ball until Warney had him bowled. An attempted late cut from Sehwag ideflected onto his timber. It seemed the only thing that would stop Virender was a freak dismissal and that was just what happened.

Sehwag so unlucky but hes gotta go

The very next ball new Batsman VVS Laxman whohas been in career best form and looked to be what India needed to get the 160 runs required however he got a leading edge and the well placed Ponting at short cover took a catch on the dive. The hat trick ball was denfeded away on the leg side by Yuvraj.

Laxman out first ball to put Warne on a hat trick

Cricket 60 must of seen it coming because Australia is right back in this match now however in form batsman Yuvraj Singh may just stand in there way along with Tendulkar who is smashing it around. 164 runs for India to win the 2nd test and Australia need 6 wickets. You can sense the match is turning for Australia and Warney is the provider. Theres nothing in it at Chennai so dont miss a moment.

The Australians are all over Warne as he single handedly gets Australia back in the match!

Catch Of A Lifetime

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 5/194 - 34 overs

12:28pm - Day 5

Tendulkar 75(55)*
Yuvraj Singh 4(9)

Lee 0/52
Tait 0/38
Clark 2/59
Warne 2/37
Hodge 1/7

India require 159 rusn to win

What a catch in the context of this match. Brad Hodge has given his off spinners some flight and Yuvraj has come down the track and smashed it out to the square leg fence. Stuart Clark who took Australias first 2 wickets was out there and hang on to an amazing catch to give the visitors the imputus going into Lunch.

A blinding catch from Clark on the fence

Danger man Yuvraj is gone and a middle order collapse has seen India lose 3 for 5 in just a couple of overs. Australia are now ontop here and With plenty to gain in the 20 minutes before Lunch. Dhoni is the new man in.

A See-sawing Affair

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 5/231 - 42 overs

Lunch - Day 5

Tendulkar 85(76)*
Dhoni 25(27)*

Lee 0/52
Tait 0/38
Clark 2/59
Warne 2/58
Hodge 1/22

India require 122 runs to win

Its time to take a break from an eventful first session on the final day of this second test. This is shorly the last partnership that can hold India together here. The home team has slumped to 5 down after holding such a commanding lead overnight. An amazing session that sore 5 wickets lost for a massive 187 runs scored thanks to the partnership between Tendulkar and Sehwag which thrilled the crowd and had Australias critics talking down there chances.

India need to regroup over lunch

Time wont be an issue now as the run rate is right up there and Asustralia only need 5 wickets to win. The one man that turned the match for Australia Shane Warne has picked up 9 wickets for the match so far and looks like eclipsing a 10 wicket haul. Tendulkar needs a big hundred to stop Australia from what used to be an unlikely win.

Little Master Left In The Ashes

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India 6/256 - 45 overs

1:48pm - Day 5

Tendulkar 93(83)
Dhoni 42(36)*

Lee 0/64
Tait 0/38
Clark 2/59
Warne 2/71
Hodge 1/22

India require 97 runs to win

A big pile of ash left at Tendiulkars end after Dhoni dropped one into the vacant square leg and called "yes". A brilliant pick up and throw sore the hesitant Tendulkar out by a distance and on his way back to the pavillion in the 90s a massive blow to India wh now need Dhoni to guide them home.

India are now in big danger with Australia cominh back from the brink and fast becoming favourites. Irfan Pathan is no mug with the willow and needs a typical 40 like he normally produces.

India Collapse And Australia Walk Out Winners

2nd TVS Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
India All Out 300 - 52.2 overs

2:23pm - Day 5

Australia win by 52 runs

Points - Australia 5 points India 2 points

India has fallen apart at the seems and is all out for 300 in there chase. The home team really should have won this game but they batted poorly an only a couple of there batsman fired.

Irfan Pathan made it 7 down when he was caught at bat pad. Totally beaten by Warne flight and gave Hussey an easy catch.

Anil Kumble then copped an absolute shocker from Aleem Dar. Anil left an away swinger from Lee that clipped the pad and Dar sent him packing.

The final two wickets were also caught at bat pad and Dhoni was left at the non strikers end without a partner as Australia celebrated there newly claimed series lead.

A massive win for Australia who hav struggled to cope with conditions on this tour but showed there fight in this match after being down and out overnight they have taken 10 wickets in a session and a half to win the match convincingly.

A press confernece will follow shorlty with both captains present.
