ICC Champions Trophy 2017

Match abandoned. What a shame! Australia will be the ones smiling here. Poor NZ. The match was theirs for the taking.

I love how everyone is literally saying NZ would have bossed it, specially that clown Laxman. Yes, they were ahead but 120 odd to chase in 11 with 7 poles on a FLAT deck with all of NZ poor bowlers yet to bowl? I think it's an under estimation of Smith, Head and in particular that freak show Maxwell.

These games IMHO, should have a reserve day.

Sad end. This makes it even more so sure for me not to wake up at 5 in the morning for the India-Pakistan match on Sunday. I am going to watch that game on highlights (if it happens). Such horrible scheduling of the tournament.

Ironic that the last time these two teams (Australia and New Zealand) met each other for an ODI at a neutral venue, it was for the same tournament (2013 Champions Trophy), at the same same ground (Edgbaston, Birmingham) and same result (wash-out). Hope the irony extends to the winner of this tournament, too (same as the winner of 2013). :p :D

Ive been waiting so long for tomorrow's match up if its rained out I'll be gutted!

For India Pakistan match it shows rain for the day for couple of hours during the match time

Our top four was exactly the same too

It would have been interesting, but Santner is ranked 10th in the ICC rankings, and we would only have had 4 overs from Anderson/Neesham/Williamson which I don't think would have been too bad

Think the fact Australia had to chase more than 7 rpo in unfavorable conditions certainly played a part. The kind of shots Warner, Finch and even Smith played, you don't see it everyday. Credit to New Zealand for the first couple of overs which only increased the pressure. Had Australia lost the game, it would've been an unfair result especially given the way they fought back in the last 10 overs of the New Zealand innings.

For the next game, it is important to get Pattinson and Lynn in the side. Perhaps Hastings (who has never been particularly impressive) and Henriques could make way.

In a format where every game matters, you cannot afford washouts. Its not rocket science to schedule such that the games have a reserve day. This washout and very likely the rain interruptions for the India-Pak game will take the sheen off the tournament. Its a pity because this was shaping up to be such a wonderful event.

IIRC, the last Indo-Pak at the CT in England was rain interrupted as well?

Wow! You have to hand it to the ICC. They always manage to fuc/< up the scheduling of this tournament. Ind-SL had a washed out final for two days back to back. Ind-Eng wasn't the best organised final last CT and I won't be shocked if this year's is crap as well. About time some people with balls and a mind run that pathetic organisation.

I think Chris Lynn would walk into any limited overs side on any solar system in the universe. If Australia and he himself take care of that body, I see a once in a generation limited overs batsman. He needs to just refine his batting a little bit which will come with experience. I just am in awe of him. Anyone who can make Maxwell, Ab etc. look like a bit of a slow coach is a freak of freaks. How MH and TH play ahead of him is beyond me. I think AF at the top is a very over rated bloke.

I think John Hastings is the sort of bloke you want in the side. He gives it his all. I think Hazlewood made merry and got some cheap wickets like he often does.

My Aus XI would be as follows-

Lynn
Warner
Smith
Head
Maxwell
Henriques
Wade
Cummins
Starc
Pattinson
Zampa

As an India supporter, if I see the openers as I just mentioned, I'd be shitting bricks. I don't know what the bowlers have to endure. Also what it does is that it gives Warner and Smith time as well as freedom. IMHO, Australia's bowling lacks a bit of variety as well which is why I've gone for the wrist spinning Zampa. I don't think Henriques offers much with the ball but at least he gives me the option of 2-3 overs where as Finch doesn't. Australia's problem is the lack of a genuine allrounder. Their all rounders are more batsman who can bowl. In limited overs, you need people who can bat a bit and go big but give you 8 overs when needed.

Also, it always seems to rain in Birmingham whenever there is cricket on. Wasn`t the 1999 WC game between India and England also at Birmingham? It went into the reserve day as well.

So you saying the Indians have no balls? Since BCCI run cricket. I find it ironic all the members complaining about the scheduling of the tournament are the same ones that supported the IPL last month. Well because of the IPL the champs trophy is being played at this time!

I might be a bit biased but this SA team is close to being the most complete ODI team ever.
