International Coach
I think Chris Lynn would walk into any limited overs side on any solar system in the universe. If Australia and he himself take care of that body, I see a once in a generation limited overs batsman. He needs to just refine his batting a little bit which will come with experience. I just am in awe of him. Anyone who can make Maxwell, Ab etc. look like a bit of a slow coach is a freak of freaks. How MH and TH play ahead of him is beyond me. I think AF at the top is a very over rated bloke.
I think John Hastings is the sort of bloke you want in the side. He gives it his all. I think Hazlewood made merry and got some cheap wickets like he often does.
As an India supporter, if I see the openers as I just mentioned, I'd be shitting bricks. I don't know what the bowlers have to endure. Also what it does is that it gives Warner and Smith time as well as freedom. IMHO, Australia's bowling lacks a bit of variety as well which is why I've gone for the wrist spinning Zampa. I don't think Henriques offers much with the ball but at least he gives me the option of 2-3 overs where as Finch doesn't. Australia's problem is the lack of a genuine allrounder. Their all rounders are more batsman who can bowl. In limited overs, you need people who can bat a bit and go big but give you 8 overs when needed.
The issue with Lynn is that nobody in Australia has considered him an opener before the IPL, so it is difficult to fit him at the top. Finch is a player who'll always be there for the team, an absolute warrior. Henriques is a pretty competent batsman who'll offer a decent couple of overs. But it is tough to see what Hastings offers - he bowls 10 overs, isn't particularly economical, takes wickets sometimes but not often and isn't great with the bat. He's a great person to have around the squad but not sure if he's upto the level required to start consistently. It is a very difficult choice between Head/Henriques and Lynn for the number 5 spot, one has to feel for Smith and Boof. There's no way they can satisfy everyone with the decision they take.
