Remember that India vs Pakistan game in 96? That Prasad delivery to Sohail after that big mouth opened a little too early (no offence to Pakistan, just to Sohail)?
Chokers us ? Okay, we have choked at various finals before,but this team is different. And I think we perform better in knock outs than other formats.
Sai has correctly pointed out the 1996 WC QF.
Other examples are of the ICC Knockout 2000 and 2002 CT.

We used to be good at those knock out games earlier but in recent times we have choked regularly. 2004/06/09 ICC CT, 2007 WC and 2009 ICC T20 WC are all examples of the same.
We have been superb in bilateral events as the rankings rightly show but when it comes to these marquee events, we have choked big time.

No point in guessing whether SA will win the World Cup I suppose....we always seem to have some of the stronger teams and then flop.
Pretty happy with our group though...
England is so-so (even though they beat us recently I wont read too much into that). They hardly seem like a World Cup winning side so not worried about them at all.
India is probably the only threat being at home and all but seeing as they also buckle under the pressure they might get knocked out even earlier during a WC on home soil with the immense pressure they would be under. Im almost certain if they dont win the WC in 2011 the heads will fly!!
West Indies is good but too inconsistent, sort of like Pakistan - One day they can be world beaters, the next day they get slaughtered for 100 all out.
I think Group A is much tougher...with Australia and SL in there it makes fighting for 2nd spot in the group tough as hell. Those teams have prolly been most impressive during World Cups recently.

I was referring only to knock out games. The tournaments you mentioned are examples of where the Indian side didn't even qualify for the next round.
Don't forget that we are playing at home and that we need to atleast reach the semis, you know what the crowds are like here. Especially after the disastrous one in WI in 2007, the crowds won't be in any mood to forgive.

Exactly...thats why I see no point in us trying to get to no1 in tests and odi's because inevitably we throw it away. Perhaps we should always try to be second best lol

The games I mentioned were as good as knockout games for us. Our game against SL was as good as a knockout game, so was our game against Australia in the 2006 CT.For example, SL have hardly won anything against us in since 2006 but when it came to a do or die clash for us in the 2007 WC, we lost.
Don`t get me wrong, I still feel we have the team which can go all the way in the tournament but I just don`t feel as confident in a multination tournament
Also, most bowling sides will get thrashed if the pitches stay like they were during the India-SL ODI series (not the one at Delhi). Some of the criticism that the Indian bowlers cop is unfair sometimes considering the fact that they bowl on decks like the one at Rajkot most of the time.

I've said this before and I'll say it again since people are bringing up the 1996 World Cup. That tournament was nothing short of a joke and not just cause of the format. That was just one aspect of it. You also had an opening ceremony that was nothing short of an expensive amateur hour, with an MC who didn't have a bloody clue.
Also the stupidity and arrogance of the organisers who refused to move games from Sri Lanka knowing full well suicide bombers were blowing themselves up in Columbo.
PILCOM couldn't organise a game of Two Up on ANZAC Day.
Hence why I always stated that until 2007 that the 1996 was the worst ever World Cup.
