NZ getting the free point against India and Pakistan being robbed off the point against Lanka along with Bangladesh being robbed off the point against Lanka are going to prove very crucial. It's a shame that such a long tournament will still not give a completely clear picture of the 4th qualifier.

Pakistan will rue the loss and the margin of the loss to WI. I know I have a soft corner for them so I'm still holding out hope but it's time that I accept that they have been poor and currently don't deserve to qualify. There is no good reason for the manner in which they lost to WI.

Who gives a damn about these pathetic bilateral series anyway?

This itself suggests that there are hardly any true Cricket fans left out there. Huge surprise to read this line. I am shell-shocked that how people are writing off bilateral matches which was meant to be the soul of Cricket. I felt really hurt to read this :(:facepalm

Amazing from Bangladesh, I dont know but someone from the Bangladesh management said that Shakib doesn't focus on his national team, instead he plays IPL with more passion (something like that), and thats the way to shut them up! Aus v Bangladesh would be a bit interesting, feel sad for Liton missed his 1st WC hundred

I am not saying they should impose the decision on Russell. However, they can certainly tell him based on what we are seeing right now that he has to do something about his body because he won't be able to survive for long if he keeps on playing with injuries like this. I think they can certainly can suggest him what to do as long as he is committed to play for WI. WICB is under new president now and he certainly have got more trust form players than the previous president. So I don't think there is anything wrong in telling him about this as long as it's done in a manner in which Russell clearly gets the message that they are doing this to prolong his career and not to deny him to play anywhere apart from WI.

I can understand the part about injury prone players but right now it just seems like WI are going with only 10 players because they just don't know if Russell will make it through the game or not without breaking down. That is just embarrassing.

Well said on both points. Their two biggest superstars are turning out be liabilities right now. Chris Gayle after all his self-proclaimed (cringey) Universe Boss schtick has only been able to get a solitary 50 against Pakistan while chasing less than 100. Russell also hasn't done anything of use since his bouncer attack against Pak, and has done zilch with the bat. Whats the use of such superstars if they are going to win you just 1 game out of 9 in the World Cup, and not even keep you in the running until the last day.

2 fitter and younger players could have probably performed at the same level, while giving their 100% in the field and saving crucial runs or effecting critical run outs. The superstars are barely able to move around here. Zero sympathy for them

Shakib is a star. What a world cup he is having. Best all-rounder in the world right now in ODIs.

BD will feel robbed of points because of rains. They are the true contenders for the a spot in the top 4 amongst the bottom 6 teams now. They have tougher games coming up. Hoping that they pull through in place of England or NZ. Not very likely, but lets see.

If they can pull off a win against Australia, I think they will really start to believe in themselves. And I feel like they can, if they keep their nerves and negotiate Starc and Cummins well

Pretty much has already been penned by fans of both sides here regarding India/Pakistan match. I'd just put some of my cents here.

To start off in my observation, Sarfraz looked nervous and under pressure, it was an under pressure and defensive tactic to choose to bowl first, Had it been won by Virat I dont think so he would have think a second to choose to bat first regardless if the pitch had mositure. He knew that Pakistan struggle to chase even 200 runs in a pressure game. And we were like heyy Sarfraz decision is fine because virat also wanted to bowl first loll

The body language of Pakistan was pathetic except aamir who really tried hard but I think he was too much outside the off stump giving the opening batsmen time to see of the new ball and early mositure. Aamir did create pressure but he is still unsuccessfull in taking wickets with new ball.

The way we lost against Australia almost every sane Pakistani fan was expecting India to win. The funny thing is all Pakistani experts were relying on unpredictability of Pakistan as it is an extra skill and USP of a team, that was a shame and onus lies with team itself.

Is everyone not shouting out loud including big ex cricketers and experts that you need to go with Haris Sohail against India to give a little dependability to the middle orderof. Imagine you are going to chase with a bunch of half batsmen half bowlers, How would you win ?

Hasan Ali deserved what he was asking for so long. Wahab Riaz again proved that he is useless, while Imad could only do what he was capable of I.e. to be in the shoes of Sultan Zarawani (Ex UAE Captain). Literally it was the heaviest below par performance in ages.

On the other hand, you got to admire Indian team professionalism and preparation. Rohit played a master class inning and notice how disappointed he was on his dismissal even when he already did enough damage with his 140 runs. This was the willingness to win the game.

The sluggish Imam a pure product of nepotism is not even worthy of comments. I would say he is just not good enough.

India did play lot better and totally outplayed Pakistan but, Pakistan also did another self destruction by poor selection, fielding and worst captiancy.

I would though not support a total revamp for the team. I woud say on that day and this world cup thus far Pakistan had no competition with top teams. Bowling form is utterly poor and there is no experience except aamir in bowling department. Players like Wahab dont gain experience, they are just burdens on the bowling side

Allow me to say one more thing, you dont win crunch matches with Relu Kattaas

England is roasting Afghanis on the other end. Thats what a top team and world Cup candidate does with a rookie side

Its like England is having a totally different world cup than the rest of the teams. So smooth and clean (barring that aberration against Pak)

No rain interruptions, high scoring and flat wickets. They are just steam rolling through to the top 4 and batting oppositions out of the contest - as was expected from them. Would love to see how they fair against Aus, India and NZ. They play these 3 teams towards the end - they will be hoping to not run out of steam by them.

Root is scoring big big runs too ..

I dont think so that we can come to a dont deserve conclusion when there is still chance of four matches. We should remember that Pakistan did fight well against Australia though they self destructed more and we didnt get a game against Lanka otherwise situation would have been different today.

Every team which play well in upcoming matches deserve to the extent they can qualify so if you really have a soft corner for them then dont loose hope as we havent :)

Pakistan, and Pakistani supporters must stop feeding those atrocious reality shows that masquerade as WC analysis. The likes of Basit Ali and Tanvir are toxic for the psyche of the nation and even the supporters. I feel for the Pak team after such a defeat. I used to feel horrible watching manufactured anger on shows like 'Match ke Mujrim' in Indian News channels during the Ganguly era. These news channels are leeches, have no genuine cricketing insights and make the watching public unsportsmanlike. Also, those shows where both Indian and Pakistani news channels do a 'jugalbandi' is cringeworthy. Trust me, you get rid of those leeches and focus on long term structuring of the sport in Pakistan, there is enough talent there to start winning again. There is enough market, talent and public will there. Pakistani cricketers must stop looking at these India-Pak games through 90s-tinted glasses. Basit Ali saying they thrashed India in the 90s has no relevance now. We used to get thrashed in that phase, its Pakistan now. The cycle will change again. This kind of over-reaction, going after players' and their family is idiotic. Indian fans are no better. Lot of the new age Indian supporters who only watch cricket played by India during the WC are just pseudo-nationalistic fans and they use it as a vehicle of jingoism and not for the love of the game. I felt bad to see the kind of symbolism by Indian fans, both in the ground and online talking of cricket on lines of militaristic and religious lines. That made me feel like the genuine cricket fan is drowned out in all this. For that reason alone, this rivalry between India and Pakistan must die down, at least till it becomes a genuine cricketing contest again. The only people benefiting from this right now are the hate mongers on both sides, and I do not want a sport that I love for its pure joys to be hijacked by these morons. At the start of the WC, I did say that I do not feel emotionally attached to this WC. This is one huge reason. When we win or lose, what I, as a cricket lover want is to discuss the intricacies of the sport and the big moments on the field. What I`m seeing now is politicization and nationalistic symbolism among fans. No room on the internet to talk about the sport. I indulged in some really fun banter with Pakistani and Indian fans online yesterday and got trolled by people for that, was called all sorts of names by my friends even! We might be winning more but this game has lost its innocence for me. Harsha Bhogle spoke about this the other day as well about people using the sport to further other jingoistic passions of theirs. He got a fair bit of trolling as well. Makes you wonder whether the rivalry is doing us any good.

NZ are nowhere near through. Im surprised why all TV pundits call them clear favorites and what not. They played one decent side and were almost beaten by Bangladesh in that. They are yet to face Pak, SA, Eng, Aus and WI which is essentially the tough chunk for them. A lot of work to be done by NZ here. Even Australia could lose to the Tigers today. To be very honest, the Aussies are lucky to have won 3 games. They could`ve lost all 3 and the only reason they won was because their opponents were not used to winning close games.

Ideally I am hoping for India v/s NZ now in case if they both win all their game

You know this is the reason why I was hoping for India-Pakistan match to get washed out so that the people who involve in unnecessary trolling are forced to stay quite. This has been the case since I can say 2016 or so when the these things were actually on an increase.

I genuinely do not want another India-Pak game in this WC. I was hoping for the same in the CT as well. These crappy once in 4 years fans hijack the whole event in an unhealthy manner.
