Kohli’s usage of his five bowlers today was absolutely spot on. The only thing that I would have personally changed with the benefit of hindsight was to bowl an over or two of Bumrah before Chahal’s final spell but it makes sense that he wanted to hold all the five overs of Bumrah for Buttler. Sticking with Kuldeep and Pandya even when they were initially being expensive was another masterstroke too, allowing them to come into the game and tighten the noose later on. Also loved the aggressive fields he set whenever possible and applicable.

This is in stark contrast to a year ago were he would rigidly stick to constant bowler rotation plans and would look clueless when the bowlers were being hit out of the park. This flexibility in his strategy on the field has been the missing factor in his limited overs captaincy. With that and his already excellent motivational skills, India might have a good captain for the future.

From seeing all the conversations on social media and Cricinfo (I woke up and then seeing England bat, I decided to catch up on the sleep and woke up at around the 40th over), I feel India have done pretty well to keep this well below 350. There is still pressure for India because their semifinal spot is not yet booked (though it looks most likely). I felt Shami was a huge mixed bag where his runs at the death really balanced out the wickets he got. He got a 5-fer but he leaked a lot at the death. It felt like Bumrah should be bowling non-stop at the end starting from the 44th over. I felt Bhuvi would've been a way better bet at the death, on a pitch like this.

Pant coming in is good news on this pitch because we need players who need to be aggressive and make the runs flow hard. Very tough on Dinesh Karthik who was picked in the first choice squad and to see a mid-tournament replacement like Pant take a spot in the XI, should feel crushing for Karthik. But such is the game and hope he stays calm.

I feel we can win this considering the batting we have, but I'd also not be surprised/disappointed if we lose. I am getting quite anxious/nervous about our unbeaten run till now. Need to get a defeat out of the way

I have loved Kohli the captain in this WC. As you said he has been brilliant and if he keeps at it, we might see the most successful captain of all time for India. This is a gettable score, I feel. KL Rahul is going to be the key, I hope he sets the stadium on fire.

By the way as someone else here also said, the new jersey looks absolutely gorgeous except for that plain orange back. Whenever a player wore a jumper, it looked amazing.

I feel India need to give this jersey more chances whenever we play abroad. Make some tweaks to it. Maybe bring back the other blue (the Bleed Blue color) and keep the orange prominent like how this away jersey has done. And have a better design for the back and we can have an amazing jersey design that could even become a regular jersey.

Got no idea why Root walked out at number 3 today, England have pushed Root to the lower order in the past when they’ve had similar explosive starts so it wouldn’t have been an unprecedented move either. England certainly have played a lot more cautiously today after their previous criticisms but they need to trust in their methods on pitches like this, it’s the tougher pitches where they need to adapt.[DOUBLEPOST=1561900258][/DOUBLEPOST]

Buttler smoked the same type of delivery for a six on the very second ball mate. :p
Short balls are most definitely not his weakness.

A back of the length ball is slightly different as compared to short ball. And by the term short ball I mean the use of that one bouncer per over. The same goes for Steven Smith

KL Rahul has some serious mental issues. When Dhawan was in the team he felt the pressure if maintaining his spot. Now that he is gone, he certainly knows he is 100% in the side and that has given him a little relaxed mind. If he continues playing this way next few matches, I would not hesitate playing Pant in opening and Rahul/Kartick in middle.

What a slow start this 20 odd in 9 overs! Lose a wicket now the chase will be all over.

Missed the days when Sehwag used to open with Sachin or Ganguly irrespective of the bowlers or conditions he used to give a rolickin start and always kept the asking rate above 6 back in the last decade. That kind of start always eases life ahead for the batsmen to come and can play according to the situation.

Yess.. This is the challenge i wanted for us. A massive score being chased, followed by a poor start by the team

Can we even get close now?? With a shaky middle order and a long tail

I have always felt, chasing a 330-350 score is our biggest weakness. And we tend to falter at it more often than not.

This is a horrendous start by our top order so far

We missed a trick by not opening with Pant here. He could have given us a start like that. A 30 ball 50 to mess up the bowlers lines. Here they have settled in very well

Rohit also seems absolutely lost here

45 runs in 74 for this partnership. Wow
