Utter nonsense. The ‘hand of God’ was used by a cheat to try and legitimise his foul play. What happened in this game was terrible luck from a NZ perspective. Stokes apologised and wouldn’t have run, it was on,y because it ended up going for a boundary we’re having this debate.

There were lots of chances for NZ to tie this game up before that but they didn’t - no matter how brilliantly they bowled a fielded. England won this game fair and square and I’ll celebrate it it long and hard. I really wish the opponents were someone other than NZ who I think have been a great team throughout this World Cup and all credit to them and KW for the clever cricket they have played.

The dullest 50 over game turned into the ultimate cracker. No, it’ll never replace football but for us cricket fans, today was special and will always remain so.

I didn't mean in a cheating sense. Was in the sensr that for NZ fans it will be that moment that keeps getting talked about for years.

Apologies I didn’t mean to imply you did.

It was terrible luck for NZ.

If I could have chosen a final at the beginning of this tournament I would have picked Eng v NZ but as happy as I am for England I’m sad for NZ having lost two finals on the bounce. I hope the can come back strong.

I just read through 25-28 pages of comments here in 15-20 mins, as I was roasted/drained/every inch of my body's cell sucked out after an ASTONISHING DAY of sport watching that I have ever experienced. These are the MOMENTS WE DREAM as a sports addict, and it happened today in two different sports at the FRIGGIN' SAME TIME!!!

I was furiously shuttling between my iPad which had the Wimbledon on, while my entire house was on Hotstar for this epic World Cup final. I was shouting for Federer one moment, and the next moment I was shouting my lungs out for NZ. Neither side deserved to lose today and England purely deserve it for the fairy tale turnaround they effected after the 2015 embarrassment. They started this tournament as the No. 1 ODI side in the world and at the end of it, luck favored them fittingly. Well done EOIN MORGAN AND BOYS!!! Hats off.

I did have my grouses on the luck that England got on the course of this amazing game, but I don't want to talk about it right now as they truly deserve to revel in this glory. Everyone feared England so much that we didnt want to face them in the semifinals and they just proved WHY!

NZ - I dont know where to even start! I couldn't cry for you because somehow my tears were all drained out in that heartbreaking semifinal which India lost to you. But man, if there is a team that makes my heart pain to see them lose (after India), it will be you. Hope you guys recover from this soon.

After the India loss, I wanted a break from the game to recover from the pain. Glad I recovered quick enough to get back on cricket and watch this BLOODY INSANITY of a game.[DOUBLEPOST=1563144039][/DOUBLEPOST]For this epic final, I am watching the entire replay of that England chase very soon. I need to relive those moments again. This coming from a staunch India supporter who very sparingly watches other games (I try my best, but I apologize for being deeply connected with cricket through Indian team)

Why was everyone supporting NZ today who weren’t English :lol?

Bizarre mate, I don’t quite get it.

The Aussie commentators on Sky were suddenly supporting NZ. The Indians seemed to need NZ to win to excuse their own failings. Even seen Pakistan fans saying NZ deserved to win when only a week ago they said they should have been in the semifinals instead of them!

I loved seeing lots of British Asian fans with Indian/Pakistan/Sri Lanka, etc shirts on and England flags round their shoulders/painted on their face mind!

Seriously worried where Michael Clarke went though. He was creaming his pants when it looked like NZ were going to win. Has anyone seen him? He might be crying somewhere!

2019 has been the best year for sports I've ever seen, and we still have 5 and a half months to go. Ajax, Spurs and every comeback in the Champions League, the title race between Liverpool and City, the back-to-back FIFA WWC win for the US, the Wimbledon final, the CWC knockout stage. Heck, Mahrez scored a 95th minute free kick to get to the AFCON Final just today. And that's just off the top of my head.

On a personal note, I didn't give a crap about cricket for the last few years but this World Cup has certainly changed that!

Can't speak for everyone else but it's more about the banter for me, with the fans getting cocky beforehand and then the tabloids and fans alike going buts after a loss. And also the whole thing about inventing a sport but not winning at it a lot :lol

I’ve seen too much to ever think England would win anything! Lol.

Two sports I love; cricket and (ice) hockey. Both been amazing years for England/GB on a world stage.

I really hope any (perceived) ‘hatred’ of England doesn’t stem from colonialism, I mean what do I, or any other England fan and player have to do with that?

Yeh it seems ridiculous that everybody was supporting NZ. I love cricket and football (I support Huddersfield Town FC) and even in football everyone seems to want England to lose. Probably just jealous tbh. We are serial bottlers too tbf and I still can’t believe we won. Going to pull a sicky tomorrow haha.

I totally agree with you, but the reality is a little more complicated. There's reasonable fans who don't care about it all, and there's some of them who just bring it up ironically for banter's sake. And then there's people on both sides that make it tough. To provide my perspective: I've met people in Bangladesh who are somehow still bitter about the British being down there, though the current generations have had nothing to do with it. From the English side, there's articles like this (I looked this up because I vaguely remember Ashley Giles and the word ordinary (Nafees was a very brave 18 year old!)) and just the general tone of condescension from people involved in English cricket when discussing Bangladesh. It doesn't directly have to do with colonialism but given the history of the countries, it does not translate well at all and it's enough to plant some doubt in anyone's mind about where the condescension is coming from. I personally think that politics in a competitive sense has no place in sports and I'm sure most people agree, but with emotions running high, these things come in at times. That said, in my opinion things have gotten much better than before and it will only continue to get better.

Could you show us the memes you were going to post if we had lost. I’d be very interested to see what they were.

Too caught up in all the emotion today. We all owe a special thank you note to the two sides today. My heart is full of joy for the fact that, we as a sporting family, can proudly walk up to all the non-believers and say today, "This is what our sport looks like!". NZ and ENG have given us a classic. I cannot express how happy I`m for the sport today. It sounds like too much of a cliche, if ever Cricket was the real winner, it is today! Well done England. NZ and Kane Williamson, you guys have steel. The fact that they played a 240 game and defended in a thrilling semifinal (and also defended those against a marauding Braithwaite) means that they really do have the nerves for the big moments. I just wish, Morgan had invited KW on the podium as a gesture. Never mind.

English fans, if ever there was a day to preach cricket to the non-fans, today is the day! We owe it to this great sport.

Its all about the underdog guys! Nothing apart from that. NZ are likable. It has nothing to do with history or colonialism. The fact that we all love this bloody sport is a testament to that. Cricket is as Asian/Caribbean as English, and that is one thing we forever owe the Brits for.[DOUBLEPOST=1563147860][/DOUBLEPOST]

Also, please have an open bus parade for this side and fill up those streets (unlike the shambolic opening ceremony :P). And here's hoping for a great 4 years of cricket leading up to India 2023.
