no way punter wasnt out lb im pretty sure he nicked the ball before it hit pad.
not 100% certain tho.

It was a heaps big Nick! It was so obvious, the umpires just aren't good anymore.

umpires sucks in this match they got so many decision wrongs i mean really and now symonds not given out i dont understand

Bad luck for India and all becoz of poor umpiring! But we are playing in Australia, and we should expect that (that was the country where Hair gave Sachin LBW when he was hit on his shoulder).

That Tendulkar LBW was out. You can still be given if your hit in line with the stumps on any part of your body.

Anyway, yeah punterpupnroy (thats a bloody hard name to spell), Punter did inside edge it onto his pad but was caught behind and given not out on 17.

This is ridiculous. If Hogg or Symonds get a century here and Australia are still batting by the end of tonight. I'm going to be extremely dissapointed.

That was plumb, hit him in line and was crashing into the stumps. Thats out mate.

He was out on 17 though.

Anyways, 250+ is possible seeing these two guys! Everything will be out of our hands by tomorrow evening and we will be playing catch up. Damn!

What the hell are you on about? 2 of the 3 decisions have gone your way.

I think you'll find not many are in the team for just one reason. Indeed it is a key difference between Australia and India. Great fielders make the Australian side and tend to stay there. Hayden is hard to fault at first slip, Symonds generally haunts point like a possessed terrier and if it beats him, then there is often Clarke placed backward of point because his bullet left arm gives him a great shy at either stump. Then you have Ponting who is a livewire and Hussey is a man of few mistakes, probably as good as anyone playing for the opposition. Hogg is always notably energetic and a high quality infielder. Lee is a superb outfielder and each of the pacemen contribute with powerful, accurate throwing, preventing many 3s or 2s.

Qualms about fielding skill are quite often the reason why a player can't make it. Jaques was an example, particularly for his throwing which was stilted by a minor shoulder injury (Shaun Tait found a similar problem). Nevertheless, it spurned him to work at specialising and he has made himself a valuable close catcher, a difficult role for which few senior players will put their hand up.

Outside the team, Brad Hodge is quite an acrobat, Katich recently pulled off an outstanding sliding run out and Adam Voges is another who surely curries favour by offering more than just a place to hang a bat.

But when talking about pure batting it comes into different circumstances, Jaques and Hayden have now created a new opening batting partnership, both getting consistent 50's and 100's. Ponting has become one of the world's most famous number 3's because of how he adapts to that batting position and the consistency he has in that spot making consistent large scores. Then you have Hussey, who "was" at a time, compared to Bradman himself because of the way he takes on the situation whether Australia were in a comfortable position or more so struggling, he started his career with a large amount of centuries and has kept his spot because of how he fills that roll for Australia. Then you have Clarke, future potential Australian captain who is a middle order player which takes that role of playing the spinners during the middle of the innings, his stats don't show much but how he is in the making of a potential class batsman is enough to keep him in the team.

But then as soon as you reach Symonds you hit a moment of curiousity, most of the other players can almost be simply placed for their batting unlike Symonds. His all-round attributes would have to the reason for his selection. His aggressive nature would simply not be enough to fulfill an important spot like that.

I think that the fielding pretty much has to be of high standard anyway, and Symonds fulfills the need to go furthur than the 'high standard' anyway. Hodge and Katich are both indeed good options but Symonds all round position helps secure a spot. I just think his batting isn't of test nature and their are plenty of safer choices, not that I despise him. Hodge's 200 is an example of what a batsman would truly be based on.
