Dravid has once said that since Saurav is selected, he will play! And also, both Saurav and Yuvraj played domestic matches (Saurav against Tamil Nadu and Yuvraj against Pakistan A). Saurav scored 59 and 88 on a difficult pitch to bat on! Yuvraj scored 59 and got only one innings. But what makes me think Saurav will get the nod is because of his experience (as said by the selectors too!) and because if the pitch is responsive for the faster bowlers, Saurav's in form medium pace bowling would be definitely handy! It will let us go in with 2 fast bowlers and 2 spinners and have a good attack!

I am sure Ganguly will be selected though, because of his bowling on those rumoured bouncy wickets & primarily, his experience.

India have to be sure they dont take the bowling as a big failure in that practice match. What was important for them was to get used to the conditions, and I think they have.

I too think that Ganguly will be the starting XI in the first test match which will mean that Yuvi will have to sit out of first test match. But, I do not think the reason for him playing will be beacuse he is expreienced and all the other reasons you mentioned. He will be in the team because the BCCI does not want another issue on their hands if Ganguly is not picked. There has been enough drama surrounding Ganguly and BCCI does not need another "tamasha" by not including him in the playing XI. Remember, the media have their pens ready to publicize another controversy. BCCI will be ready to put Ganguly in the team and hope that he plays. If he does not play well in the first match then, he will be eventually dropped as then they will have a reason to keep him out of the side.

If Ganguly plays (i think he will) in first test, then he should play convincingly and not try to grind it out and score a ugly 50 playing an eternity.

Danish is kept 12th man as we already have 2 spinners Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik and a part-time spinner Imran; I am finding it difficult to replace Danish with someone .

Kaneria will DEFINITELY play in all the tests. He'll replace Razzaq, I think. Sami will also play replacing one of the batsman, possibly Malik or Farhat.

Yeah, that ugly controversy will also be a reason for Ganguly to be selected in the starting XI

He is not in bad nick. He is in good form, so he can be selected! I hope he succeeds against the Pakistani attack (if he plays; I wont predict anything under Chappell!)

Gavaskar on India-Pakistan series

Gavaskar is the latest celebrity to give his views on the India-Pakistan series. He downplayed Pakistan's hue-and-cry about preparing bouncy and green tops to unnerve the Indian top order. He called green pitches in sub-continent as a "joke". According to Gavaskar green tops in sub-continent do not offer as much assistance to fast bowlers as do the pitches in South Africa and Australia because the surface underneath the pitches in sub-continent are not as hard as the ones found in Australia and South Africa.

He also said that India should play three openers if the pitches offer help to fast bowlers. "If pace is supposed to be Pakistan's strength, then we can negate that by having three openers. They are quite comfortable against the new ball as they have been brought up playing the new ball," he said. (Source: Rediff.com)

In the end, as everyone seems to have some advice for Ganguly, he adviced Ganguly to just forget about all the outbursts against him and look ahead. "A top cricketer forgets the previous delivery and just moves," Gavaskar said.

Not possible to accept Gavaskar's opinion on the openers! We cant play all the three openers (including Sehwag!). Sehwag and a specialist opener is what we can do best! We cant drop Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar. And either or Yuvraj/Ganguly should play! And we have to play 4 specialist bowlers!

So only one of Gambhir or Jaffer can play!

Lolz...Sir, actually you're making me laugh! Afridi is an-rounder? lolz.. talk about his batting average and that makes me laugh as well. To me he's in Pakistani side as a bowler more than a batsman. If you can take a look at his batting average is around 25 in ODI as same as Pathan has and even better. He's just a slugger like Balaji and nothing else.

Surely, Kaneria will play in the Test matches. Pakistan cannot rely on Afridi and Malik for spin bowling. They are good but are not genuine spin bowlers. Kaneria is short on experience but is a very good leg spinner. It looks like most probably all the pitches for the Tests will assist the fast bowlers but if the pitch does not offer the kind of assistance to the fast bowlers as thought, then Pakistan will be in great danger without a class spin bowler.

I agree with u vibs89 and also Afridi is a allrounder why u comparing him to Balaji u forgot what he did to Balaji in previous series hain can Balaji do that.
