India in South Africa

fair enough, can't think of better combination. SA have always struggled against leg-spin, they've been quite comfortable against off-spinners.

well ganguly should have been chosen over laxman to be the replacement IMO...he's in form 100 and a 43 on a tough pitch and he has the ability to lead the team when dravids absent and he has more experience that laxman and could be involved in their future plans...there's already 1 dravid, laxman is just another slow bastmen...plus im just a fan on ganguly so my opinion on this is bit bias...

they won't pick ganguly that way, its going to be different. If he does makea come back, which might happen, he'll come because of his credentials, rather than a replacement.

Laxman should have been in the team anyway, citing his fitness problems was stupid.

Is Sehwag going to captain ?
What if he gets injured himself ? Who will lead then ?

And why Laxman ?
Why not Ganguly when he is in goos form ?
Answer : Board Politics.

Pretty bad that Dravid got injured. It will be really difficult for India to win a match now.

No. Picking Ganguly and Laxman are two very different things. If the board picks Ganguly, it would nto be good, in general. There's a bit of ego involved, on both sides.

Laxman was almost included in the squad anyway, so it makes sense to pick him as well.

My team for the fourth odi will be

1-Sachin
2-shewag
3-laxman
4-dhoni
5-kaif
6-raina
7-irfan
8-kumble
9-zaheer
10-munaf
11-shreesanth

Munaf is likely to sit out of the whole series. Sehwag has also hinted that both Kumble and Harbhajan will play! The wicket for tomorrow is going to be a dry one with not much bounce and pace to it. So both spinners should play!
Laxman as one down would be better! I feel Kaif is better down the order. Kaif has had enough experience at one down now. Now we have to win games. Raina can be given one chance tomorrow. Sachin needs to fire badly tomorrow!

i dont think ganguly would be taken in mid tour as a replacement to an injured batsmen! even i am a fan of ganguly, but i dont want him to come in that way! i expect to see his name figure in the test squad that would be picked "the day after tomorrow". Nov 30th could well be a red letter day for Bengal and Saurav's fans!

Oh come on! its no more board politics. this set of selectors are different. they have sounded the horn that ganguly and laxman might be given a look in if the youngsters fail to deliver. sharad pawar is still known to support ganguly at many times. i think they are not picking ganguly because he hasnt performed to expectations in the domestic cricket. but his last two games have been particularly good for him with a 118 and a 43 (on a lively wicket) and a victory for bengal under his captaincy. so he must be in good spirits. i wish they pick him for the test squad for this SA tour!

When did your team ever do well in the Sub-Continent. Last I remember they got thrashed for 800 runs in Sri Lanka and got out on that same belter of a wicket for less than 200 runs.

I do believe the last ODI series India and South Africa played finished 2-2, in India. Quite what playing against Sri Lanka in a test match has to do with MK's post I don't know...

I think it's for the best if India stick with the youngsters and give them the valueable experience that could turn them into a big force in 3/4 years time. The problem is So many fanatical fans want success now, You have to build a side. Australia have done it and look where they are now and where they have been. Unfortunatly they'll be hit with lots of retirements soon and will face some set backs.

The main difference is, I think Australia is actually very prepared for the retirements, more so than what we think, they know what will happen to their team and name if they aren't.

Its the thing that sets the other nations and Australia apart, I know here its very hard for young players to get a run in the domestic squads, let alone get a good run in the sqaud. The fact that the anount of domestic teams halved makes it worse, since the good teams stick to their guns. If all the other nations were prepared for the impeding retirement of all their players there would be a constant flow of good young players and not much would have to change.

Back to the series however, Prince has been brought in, personally I think Rudolph should have instead or even Morne van Wyk, they could alll easily replace Gibbs, they have both had great seasons and are consistant batsman with sound techniques.

not when they've failed several times. You'll need exposure, i agree. But not at the cost of team losing. You cannot have 5 youngsters and two experienced players in the middle, it should be other way around.

Wasim Akram, in his recent interview, stated that Tendulkar will have to go Lara way and play his own game. He's become conscious of the senior player role, and he's probably over-doing it. If he gets going, i'm pretty sure the team morale will boost, more so than a Dravid or a Ganguly. You'll need your best batsman firing.

Sreesanth will make it to the line-up, and i guess Pathan will continue too. He's not in good form, but he'll need to work on it.

We should go in with a killer instinct, its happened many times in the past..where we let the opposition loose. Bhajji will be under pressure, and so will all Indian batsmen. It'll be a interesting match, its result will be vital to Indian board's future plans.

I think Sehwag might bring in a turn around tomorrow with his captaincy!

reacting to a comment here that we got to wait and build on the team even at the cost of success, I think its foolish. The teams mentioned didnt lose as badly as India is doing now! Australia have not lost so badly like this. For India, no amount of blooding youngsters would do the job. The remedy is to give the youngsters a feel of the atmosphere which they would face when they tour abroad. For that, we need more fast and bouncy tracks in India! We can afford to lose, but not like this!

Do you guys know what happened to Balaji?

He had an injury and was recovering from it. Now he has recovered, but he is not able to find a place in the team with Munaf and Sreesanth being persisted with (they are doing pretty well too!). But with Irfan struggling a lot, Balaji might be considered sooner or later!

Ganguly may go to South Africa

It says he is likely to be included in the test squad when the squad is picked on November 30th (day after tomorrow). Surely gonna be exciting seeing him back in the national squad. With the side struggling like how it is now, he surely wont be a bad choice to test out!

It will be a shame if he comes to the side as a replacement and not through his performance.
