India in South Africa

Not exactly short, but full. Hit the deck hard as in just run in and try and bowl as fast as he can, nice and full, with the swing. Sure it'll be wayward at first, but it's better than cutting down pace and swing...
Also, where did that awesome slower ball go? He bowled that so well in India vs England, and that slow-ball-bouncer :)

Yeah Zorax think you missed the point there. Last thing Pathan wants to be doing is trying to hit the deck hard, at his pace he'll just be fodder.
you're right, Pathan is a swing bowler, not a seam bowler. Hitting the deck wont' be of great help to him. It will help Zaheer, definitely.

i agree that at the moment, we are not upto the standards as our players are struggling! In my post, i was just trying to stress on the positive attitude!

Infact before Windies tour, we were shining brightly in ODIs as well as in Tests! It was that 2 runs loss where yuvraj got out of a slow ball of Bravo started to increase the loss count! :( From that point, we are facing testing time and i am still optimistic in such a way that everything gets well b4 World Cup! ;)

as said in one of the above posts, " collective confident firing " is what we need now to overcome whatever force that comes on our way :)
I don't think our positiveness will have anything to do with the way India performs. :) So I will go ahead and predict a 3-0 loss, at least one by an innings.

I Can guarantee it will never be 3-0 may be 3-0 to us
:D

Dosage of optimism has exceeded the limits...it seems.

India have it in them to win atleast one test, may be even draw the test series. Winning the test series doesn't look realistic at all.

India may go with two seamers and two spinners, and this will mean Pathan or Ganguly will be left out.

I doubt two spinners will be playing. Kumble will play. Three pace bowlers could be Zaheer, Sreeshant, Pathan/VRV Singh. I think Munaf has not recovered from injury. Pathan playing could be doubtfull since his bowling is not what it used to be. The other option is to to paly 5 batsmen + Keeper + 5 bowlers in which case Pathan for sure will play but they have to drop one batsmen. I doubt they will go by this route.

They wont leave out Ganguly, I am confident about that! The batting has been a colossal failure this tour and Ganguly has been one specialist batsman who has scored runs in this tour (though in a warm up game but heck, he has played only that game so far!). I think Pathan might be left out because Sreesanth and VRV look good with the ball and Zaheer is almost getting fully into peak form! So it will be Zaheer, Sree and VRV with Kumble being the lone spinner.

The batting order should be

Sehwag, Jaffer, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly with Dhoni

I would prefer gambhir as he is aleft hander and ganguly at ahead of laxman
for the left right combination .

heck no pathan should play. if he wasnt there ganguly would never have had ne support. india would have just made 200. and then second innings they would have made less than a 100. we would have lost if it wasnt for pathan but now cricinfo is saying that they are pretty sure that pathan wont make it thru. this is just they typical indian selection. lets drop a person who is performing just like they drpped kaif after the first english test that ruined his morale.

India needs just 4 bowlers and 6 batsmen (excluding Dhoni). If you play Pathan purely as a batsman, it would be 5 batsmen and 5 bowlers. Pathan's bowling has hit ridiculously low levels. He is being hit by every batsman! Pathan the batsman can be easily dispensed with for a specialist batsman. Since Dravid is coming back into the team, Pathan can be dispensed with because Dravid can more than makeup for Pathan's batting absence!

What!!!! Pathan as a specialist batsmen????
Matches - 25
Runs - 835
H.S - 93
Avg. - 27.83
100's - 0
50s - 6

Hmmm....not convincing

Pathan is known as a bowler and thats what he should be doing when he gets picked for India. Definitely isn't a specialist batsmen cause if hes in the team the Dravid will always turn to him to bowl a few overs. He needs to see a bowling coach and get his bowling sorted.

And you define performing as making runs in one match, that too against the second-string South Africa team?

Allthough i agree that pathan should not play ,but his batting was good he is not scared to pull and get in line of the fast bowlers like our specialist batsman and he has the guts.the south african A attack was better than the current south african in terms of speed.
