India Team Discussion

Now, Pujara is in very bad form in County cricket this year. So if he fails, we have to give someone else a chance - Karun Nair, if he does well in Afghanistan tour.

Seriously? Replacing Pujara with Nair :)

Pujara, despite being in average form in county is gaining invaluable experience in English conditions batting alongside none other than Root. How can Nair's exploits on Indian wickets compare to that. He did score two back to back high scores of 82 and 73 in between single digit scores. If you remember in SAF series, once he got accustomed to the conditions, he played a match winning knock in the final test.

Yes indeed ! And also providing them the second home (Dehradun) was another great move. Just saw Yesterday's Afg vs Ban T20I and there quite a large number of people who came to the venue unlike Greater Noida which seems pretty empty whenever the matches took place over there. To me Afghanistan seems to be a really rapidly improving Cricket Team unlike the ones in the past :cheers

The thing with Pujara is, the England tour might be his last rope. If he fails to perform to expectations in that series, he could be discarded for a pretty long enough time and could risk his career getting derailed early. That's because he has spent a lot of time in English conditions and if he still can't make use of that and get a good series going in those same conditions, then he becomes another "run machine in domestic waters but found wanting in international waters".

I have always backed him and gotten excited to see him succeed, but I feel he is losing out on time pretty fast and needs the resurrection as quickly as in the upcoming England tour. I strongly beleve it will be a "make or break" tour for Pujara the cricketer. With the likes of Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu (yes I said Rayudu; he is good enough to play 3-4 years of international cricket) and all knocking the doors, Pujara better makes it count.

Ishant outscoring Pujara in FC is embarrassing to see. It's surprising Pujara actually did well in List A cricket. Ishant has seemed to improve his white ball form, with an economy of 4.81 with 8 wickets in 5 matches which is respectable at best.

@Iodide even in County cricket he did well. Not just royal London one day cup. He really wants to be in the world cup squad.

Well he hasn't done well this year while he's done good in the past few years. 100 runs in 8 innings @ 12.5 not good at all when you have Ishant Sharma with 102 runs in 6 innings. Hopefully he gains form on this England tour.

I was talking about Ishant!

I am actually eager and keen to see how Ishant goes in this upcoming England tour. Going by his exemplary county stint, I seriously hope he is given a chance in the India ODI squad (and T20 squad also, since we are getting into WC year and T20 experience in England will help for WC prep). The thing with Ishant is he is already very experienced and his current county stint should give him lots of confidence. And he has already won India an ICC title in English conditions by turning that 2013 Champions Trophy final on its head towards the end overs. An in-form Ishant Sharma would add variety and experience to an already bustling seam attack of Bhuvaneshwar, Bumrah and Yadav.
