India Team Discussion

Why axar Patel has been dropped? He was in the squad during Asia Cup. But now? Nothing. I have a feeling he is better than Jadeja. He can smash the ball better than him. But we know he is not in the scheme of things despite performing well for A team.

I fear a left hander smashing Axar. Those sixes of Duminy still haunts me

Seems like the side that will go into the WC. That will be my last comment with regards to the current Indian side. Looks like Indian cricket and the Indian cricket supporters community doesn't like constructive criticism online these days, and every comment is just a step away from you being labeled as `anti-national' or an Indian cricket hater. From now I will refrain from commenting on the Indian side online.

I know it was pointed out towards me. I never disrespected anyone's point of view. I even don't mind a person hating Indian team either so calling and claiming someone anti-national is far off !!! I just put up a point that can be discussed that's it. Your comments are valid enough but those are not guidelines right ? Anyone can come up with a debate the end result is that the opposite person can learn few things and you yourself learn a thing or few. I would always invite questions on my claim and would definitely correct myself if asked for when I feel right to do it. Criticisms to this Indian side is not what I mind. But saying things like Cricket is no longer entertaining these days is not is the attitude is that I don't like. You were saying like Sachin, Ganguly, Yuvraj, Sehwag, etc seemed like in that line that you don't want to watch the game as a whole and unnecessary criticize the game so I came up with an argument. I was not an active member on this forum so I don't know what the attitude of the member over here is so it can happen. I can have time to adjust with the forum, the members, their behavior, the environment right ? I would request not to focus on what I speak but focus on what my perspective. It can help me to improve. Apologies if you were hurt by it.

Jadeja dropped again for no rhyme or reason as well as DK. At least, MSK Prasad made an impact as a selector if not as a player.

Why is DK dropped from the ODI team? Who are they trying to rest/rotate? Are they punishing him for his refusal to take that single and give Krunal the strike? DK scored well in that same game. I can see why Jadeja is dropped as they have included Vijay Shankar and that seems indicative of what could happen in the WC squad. With the WC being held in England, Vijay Shankar's medium pace can be handy and anyways he is being treated now as a 'batsman who can bowl a bit'. Same way like Kedar Jadhav. And since we have Kedar Jadhav as a backup spinner who can bowl the full 10 overs, I think Jadeja could find it tough to break into the WC squad. Still not all lost for him.

It would be stupid if DK misses out on the berth in the WC squad. He has done all that is asked of him. If he refused to give strike to Krunal, he also won India a super tight game in the Nidahas trophy final against Bangladesh.

The thing you didn't consider over here was the fielding and Jadeja as a fielder is >> than Vijay Shankar. And to some extent I agree to your point that Vijay Shankar can bowl his medium pace considering the conditions in England but the problem lies in the fact that Shankar's bowling lacks aggression to pick up wickets which Jadeja used to have in the past and given an opportunity he might continue to do that. Shankar would be taken for cleaners by stronger opponents because of the approach with which he bowls. Jadeja was always going to be a better choice for the WC[DOUBLEPOST=1550242747][/DOUBLEPOST]Anyone else apart from me who thinks Rohit Sharma should've been rested just to not tire him down before the WC ? This series seems like an unnecessary burden being put on him to me atleast

That is absolute hogwash, what you just said about Jadeja. He is a genuine allrounder and Shankar has not done anything with bat or ball to merit a place ahead of Jadeja. I have no issue with Shankar and he would be first in line if Pandya gets injured. Hell, he hasn't even been given a proper chance with the ball. He has shown potential with the bat but nearly not enough to be in the world cup team. Jadeja is the punching bag of this management along with DK and the now forgotten Karun Nair. Jadeja is crucial if we find that the offset between him and Chahal in the middle overs is not vast enough. His batting and most of all his fielding is absolute gold. I don't even want to say a word on DK. He is being treated like complete shit. Must have really thick skin to keep coming back.

Ridiculous selection for what is essentially the last ODI series before the World Cup

Dropping DK and focusing on Pant is just stupid when DK has played 2-3 critical innings in the last 2 series. That is pretty good from a no.6 batsman. Until last series, DK had all but sealed his world cup spot. And Vijay Shankar hasnt done much with the bat and hasnt even been given an over to be selected over Jadeja. Shankar hit a couple of sixes and boundaries, and it looks good on the scorecard - but if you were watching this shots, the dude seriously lacks power to get the same results in a big ground. His shots cleared the rope, but were not convincing. I just dont feel like he is international level material

I humbly disagree. Vijay Shankar's innings in that final ODI in New Zealand was excellent. It was the innings that took India out of abyss and took them to a position from where they could dominate and press for victory. And I have seen his big hitting skills in the IPL and he looks convincing enough for me that when there is a need to press the accelerator, he can definitely turn it on the required notch. And he had quite a few good knocks in the recent T20I series too.

I definitely see him as a good option post the World Cup. I am not sure how much useful he could be in the World Cup, where the pressure is expected to be several notches higher and him being relatively inexperienced as of now. A player like Pant who has a flamboyant and go-getter personality, has better chances of succeeding even when he is inexperienced. But Shankar with his personality (he is calm, quite and blossoms as he cements his feet in) can be a risk for the WC.

I have myself a nice laugh every time people mention the 'English' conditions and how Shankar could be useful with his medium pace. The limited overs wickets in England are flatter than the sub continent and complete roads.

Shankar simply has not had enough exposure/opportunity to go to the world cup and neither has Pant. I don't give a toss about the flamboyance. DK has a couple of gold's in ICC tournaments and been our best finisher the last two years.

This world cup is in the bag and only idiotic selection will stop us.

Whatever the pitches might be nobody can control the weather and the climate and that is the thing in England. If the conditions are windy the ball can swing a lot. And Shankar can swing the ball in those conditions but he doesn't bowl those wicket taking deliveries and as the ball would get older it would stop swinging so at the end of the day he would be hit for runs no matter what. He is a bowler whom you would bank on, on slow and low pitches like the ones in Sri Lanka as the line and length is a key over there but not in England where the ball doesn't swing after 15-20 overs

nah this world cup is England's!

They're the best batting side. In my opinion, the greatest odi batting line up of all time. The madness doesn't end. But, I feel their bowling is poor and modern day cricket is such that it bestows all the fame on the batters but the tournaments are being won by bowlers.

For instance, I'd rather give you a Kohli than a Bumrah.
