India Team Discussion

They're the best batting side. In my opinion, the greatest odi batting line up of all time. The madness doesn't end. But, I feel their bowling is poor and modern day cricket is such that it bestows all the fame on the batters but the tournaments are being won by bowlers.

For instance, I'd rather give you a Kohli than a Bumrah.

I would rather take Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting, Clarke, Martyn, Symonds and Bevan as the greatest batting line-up of all time followed by Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Yuvraj and Kaif any day over Bairstow, Roy, Hales, Root, Morgan and Butler. Remember they had lost in the WC to decent Bangladesh side with 4 out of 6 players playing a same position as they are playing now. England is banking on their batsman's form and they don't have any extra-ordinary quality in their line-up. Form is temporary but class is permanent !!!![DOUBLEPOST=1550422380][/DOUBLEPOST]
nah this world cup is England's!

If they win the WC I would say this is the best England side in their ODI history and strongest in the world at present. I still don't think they would win the WC

If Shankar is picked for the WC, that's a load of bullshit. The fact that people are basing his selection in the WC based off of one single innings of good substance is baffling. Someone like Jadeja who is a proven match performer with a lot more ability to offer than Shankar will feel hard done by just like Karthik has recently. Jadeja HAS to be the second allrounder and in that WC team, he's an ideal cover for either the spinners and if Hardik gets injured. Not to mention his powerful throws which are his greatest asset in the field which will be crucial.

Shankar's role in the team is confusing at best. Not only did he not bowl more than 2-3 overs in a match in the NZ series, when he was touted to be the ideal replacement for Pandya who offered something with both bat and ball. I cannot see Shankar even bowling a full 10 overs like India is making Pandya do when he's given such limited opportunities to bowl. And he batted at 3 in the T20 series when it was expected he'd bat in the middle order. But he looks like a good middle order prospect though but seems like a waste of a spot when there's like two spots left with one bowler and one batsman vying for one of them.

England has the best one day team on paper at the moment. Their batting is at the top of world cricket at the moment. But, I predict the same thing will happen in the WC just what happened where their supposedly almighty lineup was choked out by Pakistan in the CT. I feel they will breeze through the group stages and choke at the end, it just seems guaranteed to happen.

Absolutely spot on !!!!! I feel the same :thumbs

It's only @SaiSrini who is advocating Shankar in the WC squad. I sort of know why too. I will say one thing though that he is someone I would definitely look at giving an extended run post the WC. He looks very stable with the bat and I have seen him tonk it out of the park. I'm not sure he's a half decent bowler. His fielding is solid as well.

I also find the DK vs Pant battle absolutely brain numbing. If we start giving people place in the squad because they are left handers, it just shows why Kumble was desperately needed. Pant, who I am a HUGE fan of has no business in the world cup team over DK. I'm a bit fed up of DK being overlooked for a decade anyway.

We are rejoicing over our success but my instincts say that if Kumble had stayed and Kohli had been mature about it, this side would be among the greatest teams off all time i.e the Windies of 70's-80's and the Aussies on the turn of the millennium.

There is a lot of talk going on social media that India should not play Pak in the World Cup

What do you guys think of this? Even if we forfeit our group match against Pak (which will only hurt us), what will happen if we meet them again during one of the knockouts?

The attack on the Indian forces was really sad to hear about... but this mustn't interfere with our cricket especially with a World Cup just around the corner. Even if India meet them in the knockouts, the match will have to go as scheduled it would be totally unfair and seem unjustifiable within the whole grand scheme of the competition. I know it's cliched, but politics once again has no place in any sport. I'm not sure there's vengeance to be found if we forfeit these matches, the pain of the attack will always remain no doubt.

It's all crap and bullshit. People on social media don't know anything except creating drama and nuisance regarding petty issues. Yeah I agree that we lost a lot of our Jawans, not a small thing but involving Pakistan players into this is totally insane and ridiculous and it doesn't make sense at all.

Read this post of mine (from the previous page). I had clearly said that Shankar would be a good option post-WC and I am not sure if he would be able to absorb the pressure as he is relatively inexperienced and does not seem to have the personality of a Pant to break out of the inexperience and still do well. Or is it that no matter what I say, you're always going to accuse me (explicitly or implicitly) of Tamil Nadu player bias?

Rubbish! I'd actually want to play Pakistan and beat them in the WC (like we always do). That would actually feel a lot more sweeter when we win.

I think Shankar should be India's No 5 in the long term, especially in tests (which is his stronger format). He could contribute a few overs when we need to avoid tiring out our pacers in tests and unlike Pandya, he's good enough to be in the team purely as a batsman if he plays equally as good as he does in domestic cricket. In limited overs cricket, he's shown that he's capable of batting according to the situation and can hit the ball decently if needed too. He isn't the kind of player you'd expect ten overs from in most situations but can be a valuable 6th bowling option like Jadhav.

Pant's got incredible potential IMO. He's capable of hitting sixes one-handed, and can hit them to almost any part of the ground with his versatile selection of shots. I wouldn't be surprised if he even drops the gloves in test cricket eventually, considering how good he could become with the bat. Having him at 6 purely as a finisher is a waste of his talent in ODIs, and he should be groomed to be our long term No 4. He's devastating versus spin, and with one less fielder outside the circle compared to the death overs, could potentially be even more destructive in the middle overs. All he needs to do is stop trying to hit it out in his favoured areas when being pinned down by a good bowler (basically have a good temperament), and get better at rotating the strike and running between the wickets. He could be India's version of AbD, a 360 degree player if he works out.

I've been a huge fan of Dk v2.0 ever since Nidahas, but he's basically been useless when he doesn't bat in the last few overs unfortunately. There's not much use for him in the playing XI when we've already got Pandya who could only slog at the death if needed, and Dhoni (who's inevitably gonna play the World Cup) to be the keeper. Rayudu on the other hand seems to be in the team largely because he can score big if needed. The only issue is that him and Dhoni in the same XI is overkill, as neither player is gonna score quickly at the start, and both have well documented issues versus pace and spin respectively.

And with regards to forfeiting any match versus Pakistan, I'd rather see India play and defeat them.

I was really hoping we could discuss this here. Personally, I would do a few things as the BCCI-

1) Any official/cricketer/sponsor directly or indirectly involved in the PSL will be disallowed from participating in the IPL in any way or form for life. It will make each individual basically tear up that PSL contract apart from those that are irrelevant these days in the cricket world. Let's see, how big a success that league turns out to be then.

2) Inform the ICC that India will not play Pakistan in any match, even if it's a final. No India sponsor will participate in the event. Let the ICC decide and if it means losing that damn world cup, then so be it. In either way, it will be an absolute slap in the face of Pakistan. First win against India in a world cup through forfeit or more likely they will be booted out of the world cup because India runs cricket.

These are my cricketing ramifications. I also have some trade and political ideas that will very nicely bring the goat to the slaughter house and I promise you, it can be done without a bullet shed.

Why these cricketing ramifications? I think enough is bloody enough! For 70 years, our countrymen have been butchered for absolutely no rhyme or reason. Innocent people have lost lives and you will only understand the significance of that once you lose somebody of your own or you have seen death. I know forum members here themselves have said that this is a BCCI XI and not really an 'Indian' team but in my opinion, everything that represents INDIA should in no direct or indirect way bring any revenue, glory or anything worthwhile to the guys across the border.

I have always said that I wish we never got separated and how if there was anything India could not win then I would want Pakistan to win but there's a limit. I don't want war and see innocent killed, but I also want to corner them in every way possible now.

Relax. We all have biased. I don't know or understand why you get so upset when one of us says that you're a little biased towards them. So? You're probably born there and love the heritage. I judge you for that? No.

And off all the people I am most shocked about you saying we should play Pakistan. You know what we have lost and this is not as Indo-Pak as what just happened.

Just when people are wanting to see India boycott the match against Pakistan, ICC have seemed to take this issue seriously. I'm sure India wouldn't play the match against Pakistan if Indian govt intervenes. And since we have already seen all the ties with Pakistan - may it be trade, political ties, all have been broken now. It now doesn't make sense if India plays match after all that happened in the past 1 week.

ICC doesn't want to lose its sponsor partners and also wouldn't wish to go on loss if the match gets forfeited. It doesn't really matter for one game, but still India is one of the very important teams for ICC in terms of revenue generation.
