India Team Discussion

I hope so dude, no one wants that but this government is proving a threat in these cases.

I am a anti-BJP as well, but this idea that the team selection will become anti Muslim or any other community is pure BS. I don't see the govt interfering with team selection at any level. I hope your thoughts are not borne out of the whole orange jersey hooplah

Nah I personally loved it, was heartbreaking to see Shami left out of the semi, he's one of my personal favorites. It struck me there, don't worry. I do feel the BCCI is independent enough that no one interferes.

Let's hope for the best of Indian Cricket.

Just a question. How many people have decided to stop watching Cricket now and not to follow the Indian team because they lost the Semi-final despite having a great team and MS Dhoni also retiring ? I request you to please not to. We have a very good team and our future as a team is pretty bright with the quality of players coming in. And finally this would be very difficult but please for once try to support our Captain and instead of hoping for him to fail hope that he keeps on improving. Virat is a great inspiration to follow for us.

Even I was unhappy with Shami not playing last 2-3 games and I'm his fan as much as I'm fan of any other player in the team. But the whole reason why we could not see Shami I think it was due to the team wanted to make space for two genuine spin bowlers. For past few years we've had success playing two spinners, now it has become a trend. With Bhuvi & Bumrah having done well this world cup and being comparatively better options at death than Shami there was no chance they were going to be dropped. It was unfortunate for Shami. It clearly has nothing to do with government involvement.

BCCI mulling captaincy split between Kohli and Rohit?
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...hli-and-rohit-sharma/articleshow/70223755.cms

This will be very interesting. But instead of giving Rohit only the ODI captaincy, I would give him both ODI's and T20I's captaincy. If they want, they can keep Kohli as the test captain. Also I would not keep Kohli as test captain too. Because by keeping Kohli as a captain in one of the formats, you open up the possibility of Kohli developing a deeper rift with the limited overs captain (Rohit) and it could lead to a situation where Rohit never gets a good footing into the test side and Kohli facing issues in the limited overs side where he should be the frontline batsman. And the Kohli faction in the limited overs team might not let Rohit go about his job.

I would suggest Pujara to take over captaincy in tests and Rohit in limited overs. Let Kohli be the No. 1 batsman and go about his work.

If MS Dhoni does not officially announce retirement before the team selection on July 19th, then the selectors should not select him for the T20's and ODI's on this tour. It is time India moves on and starts preparing for the 2023 World Cup (and the T20 WC next year in 2020) and MS Dhoni should not be part of those plans and if he is not, he can't continue playing. I believe he has played his last international game from India

I would also take some tough calls on this tour. Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav need to be taken off India's 2023 WC plans. Karthik can stay on for the T20I's but both him and Jadhav should be dropped. If India needs a backup keeper, Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan need to be drafted in. I personally feel Sanju Samson really deserves a place in the India side. He is a solid batsman who can hit big and also drop anchor when a collapse is happening/happened.

I felt I had to discuss about this in this thread rather than the tour thread. I think that Shikhar Dhawan also shouldn't make it to the 2023 WC now. He has already shown signs of decline and I doubt whether he could be as good as he was in the past. I was just thinking for it since our exit in the 2019 WC that what players we should look forward to for the next WC. These are the choices I would like to have

1. Prithvi Shaw :bat:
2. Rohit Sharma :bat:
3. Virat Kohli :c::bat:
4. Shubman Gill :bat:
5. Shreyas Iyer :bat:
6. Rishabh Pant :wkb:
7. Hardik Pandya :ar:
8. Jadeja :ar:/ Chahal :bwl:
9. Kuldeep :bwl:
10. Bhuvi :bwl: / Shami :bwl:
11. Bumrah :bwl:

For back ups I would like to have

1. Khaleel Ahmed :bwl:
2. Vijay Shankar :ar:(depends how much he improves)
3. Ishan Kishan :wkb: (it depends whether he is consistent till then)
4. Navdeep Saini :bwl: (if he gets to work with the team at the NCA)
5. Mayank Agarwal :bwl:(always keen on having this guy in the team)

Anyone has followed Manjot Kalra after 2018 U19 WC. Where is he and what's he doing these days ?

Well I forgot a name that was a sensation for India in that WC. Definitely I am talking about Kamlesh Nagarkoti, I mean he is having a really difficult time and hope he gets to play for India very soon. His early career seems pretty much in line with Jasprit Bumrah who too faced some major injuries in the past and today he is our best bowler.

Also does any have any idea about Harvik Desai ? I think he was a pretty good wicket-keeper and his batting looks decent enough.

Shastri is staying on till the West Indies tour. Hope they find a new coach and replace Shastri. As Nilay says, Shastri will be 60 in two years and is definitely not going to be there for the 2023 World Cup. Might as well get rid of him now than to wait till he becomes 60. With the T20 World Cup happening next year, a new coach should come in and handle things ASAP.

Sorry there was a mistake. Ravi Shastri is 57.

So, it looks like Dhoni is not going to officially retire from cricket because he does not want to dilute his brand image as far as Chennai Super Kings is concerned. But it looks most likely that he is not going to be picked for international ODI's or T20I's from hereon. He has made himself unavailable for the West Indies tour. And sources are saying that he is going to be participating in some sort of a 'transition phase' where he will stay in the team and have Pant play as the first choice wicketkeeper.

I am not sure how this 'transition' idea is gonna work. You don't need Dhoni to be in the XI to help transition to Pant (or Kishan for that matter). Picking Dhoni in the squad means a more valuable player misses out. And if Dhoni is not picked in the squad at all, how is it even fit to be called a 'transition'?

I think as far as Dhoni is concerned, he can retire from international cricket and live with whatever dip it brings to his CSK brand. The player Dhoni is, no one will care and his brand with CSK will remain as intact as it ever was. In fact the hype around Dhoni returning for CSK in 2020 will increase because of his 'retired' status.

So, Kohli is not going to have 'any say' in the head coach selection process. Well, why is his captaincy not being reviewed at all? Are we hinting here that he is expected to continue captaining India for very long? Despite all the issues he has brought with him and the results that he has not produced?

Will someone atleast put him on a review notice? In a nation of a billion people and overflowing talents, why does one man rule the captaincy post with no opponents even being allowed to contest? I mean, Kohli the batsman is not the only great player in the country, that he is given captaincy unopposed.

Where did you get this from? Doesn't make a lot ot sense really

Can't really believe in reports from Time of India etc. because these guys specialize in generating insider news based on unknown sources which hardly comes true

If it is not on cricinfo or cricbuzz, then it is most likely all speculation. Two days back TOI were saying Kohli might be replaced as captsin by Rohit in ODIs, and now suddenly based on some other unnamed sources, they have printed an article with the exact opposite news. These guys can't be trusted

I don`t buy this, 'We need Dhoni to groom Pant in ODIs' nonsense. If Pant was good enough at the age of 20 to tour England and Australia, and score hundreds against Anderson, Broad, Hazelwood, Cummins and Starc, he is good enough to be playing ODIs on his own. Dhoni never cared about grooming anyone else for tests, and abruptly retired. Why is this logic for ODIs alone? Doesn't make any sense, give that one must allow Pant to be the best version of himself. If that means he takes the opposition on early on, unlike MSD, so be it! He will figure out the best way of doing it once he plays regularly.

Well, why is his captaincy not being reviewed at all?

Tbh he has constantly improved himself over the course of time and he wants to keep improving himself. At the end of the day he doesn't care about how he ends up as the Captain. He too wants India to become world beaters and always wants to win the game for his side no matter what. There's nothing wrong as far as his intent as Captain is concerned.
