Think it was widely expected that Shastri was going to be awarded the second term. Going purely by India's performances in the last two years, including winning 45 ODI games to losing 15 ODI games it seemed inevitable that the selectors would go for Shastri once more. But the question I have is, how much of an impact did Kohli's words have on the selection of the coach? He blatantly and publicly shown supports Shastri which is a big thing on its own with the speculation that it causes.
The selection of Shastri for another two years also exposes the attitude of Indian cricket, which is to purely continue the successes rather than tackling the glaring problems that are seen firsthand, with the huge middle order problem and the inconsistent selection of players which robbed India of potential wins over the last two years. Shastri and Kohli as a duo failed to address these concerns and they could not solve the #4,5,6 puzzle to the ODI team, which is why India were stopped short in that semi final. Yet, Kohli remained very happy by the top of the table finish rather than seeing what India's dream could've looked like once more. This is down to the stinking attitude that Kohli and Shastri have in store for the future of Indian cricket.
A change in coaches would have helped solve the problems of the missing puzzles to our already strong teams in all formats, a tactician is what was needed to solve the issues rather than pure gut and reckless decision making. Hesson or Moody have had great successes over the years and Moody in particular has been cheated out of a role that could've been suited for him.
