India Team Discussion

The whole thing about grooming captains at the senior team level is ridiculous and stupid. The grooming part should happen at the A team level, U 19 and domestic cricket. It’s fairly obvious from the SA Tour that KLR is current blue eyed boy of the establishment and he’ll be given a long rope regardless of his performance. I just hope he grows into the role quickly (not expecting much though) otherwise it’ll be a long painful “transition phase” for Indian cricket.

The grooming has been working perfectly adequate at those levels. Pant, Kishan, Shaw and Gill have all had their fair share of experience with leadership roles. There's also Shreyas Iyer and SKY who have been leaders for Mumbai.

The big elephant in the room is that KL Rahul was made captain by Punjab Kings based on almost zero previous experience because Punjab gotta Punjab and the Indian side followed upon it despite him proving to be nothing more than a failure at the domestic level.

Just why has he suddenly become the poster boy for this side?

This is true. I have a feeling that suddenly after this Kohli saga somebody in the BCCI tossed a coin and decided KLR should be future captain no matter what. Cannot explain his rise otherwise.

That's copied from the script of Inside Edge Season 3

So that means, either the BCCI Prez/ Secretary might be shot be an ex-player who was a match-fixer? :lol

And then, Lalit Modi, would return as well...

Man! that would be something....

No! It seems they reached out to Sanjay Jumaani(numerologist) / Ekta Kapoor, who suggested that the name of the captain ought to start with 'K'. Since, KS Bharat and Krishnappa Gowtham aren't yet a part of the team, they decided to turn to KL Rahul. :D

That would also mean KLR will meet with an accident and news will pop out that he has gone underground. Later someone unknown will come and say I am KLR. And just when people will start believing in him, original KLR will come out of somewhere and claim that the one who is portraying to be KLR is some villain. :lol

BCCI is perhaps making the same mistake which PCB did. They are banking on big names in terms of Coaching. Captain and team unity is the main thing. Dravid was better off coaching the younger lot. He doesn't have that aggressive attitude relative to Shastri as well. During the playing days of Dravid, the team of that era was not that aggressive also Dravid hasn't been a aggressive batter too, I am talking about the attitude overall towards the game of cricket.

Now I am seeing a musical chair of Captains, perhaps someone had to be groomed after Virat. Also, things have changed so swiftly that they were not ready for this.

You gave it away over at this point! This is the problem, we only see what's there in the screen rather than trying to actually evaluate.

India isn't at a stage where we are discussing the current Captains. I think we are very much headed the right direction as long as Rohit is going to lead India. But we are concerned about who is going to take over once he goes away. But I honestly think it isn't something to worry about. I am sure with time we are going to find that someone.

The point is that there should have been a confirmed choice once a good captain signs off. In such scenarios, every one starts to think that he can be the captain. Thats somewhat culture of Indo-Pak as well but let's see. Interesting times

It's a shame that I can't seem to view this thread in the cricket discussion section because some of the discussion over in the last page was fascinating!
