India Team Discussion

It's funny how social media have taken to troll a modern day great like Virat Kohli. I mean he has achieved everything a player can think of achieving in their entire career.

And few of them claim themselves to be a Dhoni/Rohit fan but the fact is these people didn't batted an eye when Dhoni was struggling for form or when Rohit went through a horrendous year back in 2012. And now these people wanna troll Kohli.

Also on the flip side of the coin many of the Kohli fans always took to trolling other players are themselves defending the likes of Kohli.

If truth has to be spoken an Indian fan would always want their greats to be in their best of form and perform well for the Indian team. And any kind of lean patch for any of these players is just hard to go through.

I feel Kohli's lean patch is more of a huge loss to the Indian team so we can just hope he achieves that touch soon. But we never know what the guy might be going through. So it's high time to show a little more support and patience with him.

I can say that Dhoni fans were completely in awe of his form- even if that meant that India lost the games. For Rohit, I don't think he had fans until his double centuries tbh. A lot of people criticized MSD in the early 2010s for consistently backing Rohit & Jadeja.

SRT was trolled massively until he got his 100th 100. The fact that it came off more than 150 deliveries against a sub-par Bangladesh didnt help matters as we lost the game. Its hard for these players cause they tend to get a longer rope to prove themselves. On the sidelines, we feel that an in-form player/budding talent must be given a chance. If your main man isn't performing, let the next guy take over.

What also goes on in a fan's mind is the fact that this treatment is only reserved for a few players. Tomorrow, if SKY/ Shreyas were to be out of form, they wouldn't get as many chances in the Indian setup as Rohit/ Virat. Forget SKY/Shreyas, just look at the way the likes of Dhawan, Sehwag and Gambhir were treated.

Dhawan, Sehwag and Gambhir were treated.
How were they treated? Viru & Gambhir were on a lean patch for an extended run (like almost 2 years!) so they got replaced by other players who performed better than them. While Dhawan is still a part of ODI team.

At one stage, Ashwin & Jadeja seemed undroppable but as their performance went down they got replaced by Kuldeep and Chahal. No player does get more chances when they fail to perform for an extended run.

Sorry man! got to disagree. Dhoni tried to get rid of them ASAP after the CWC 2011. That Australian tour that followed was horrible in every manner. After losing 4-0 in the Tests, Dhoni started rotating the top 3 every game. He had already announced hat Rohit will play in 2015 CWC.

This was Sehwag in the last few games that he played for India

Here's Gambhir!

Now tell me how different is this from what Rohit and Kohli are doing now OR what MSD was doing in 2019?

It's absurd to call for non-inclusion of Kohli in the upcoming T20 WC 2022. While relevant, IPL shouldn't be the only benchmark to decide who gets in and who stays out, especially after knowing that he has done reasonably well at the international level (it's just that he has set the bar so high that we feel he isn't scoring). No doubt IPL has been a poor outing for him but unless and until the player himself recluses himself, there's no reason to keep him out.

He will retire from atleast one or two of the format post 2023 world cup.
This is something that I've been feeling too. In fact, the upcoming T20 WC might be when hear from him on this matter. There's too much noise and negativity on the SM and it's bound to take a toll on a person even if he says he isn't keeping tracking of it.

ODI, maybe he will play for a little more while, but T20I seems to be a format that he would like to give up on.

Or maybe it would be vice versa, given that ODIs, as a format, is dying.

Don't see him giving up on ODIs considering he still averaged about 65 in last 2 years scoring consecutive 50s in Australia and against England in the home series.

How far up his own ar$e is this chap? Still remember him doing commentary in the 90's and early 00's where he was just a normal bloke. Money has got to his head and thanks to his stint, even the power!!

The captain is enough reason for me to not watch the T20 series. Again, he should not be anywhere near the captaincy hat. Player is fine.

Also based on form, Samson should be in the squad in place of Iyer seeing we have Pandya in the squad.

Ishant Sharma deserves better. Besides, why are we taking a 17-man squad for one test?

Iyer have averaged about 80 and has a SR of 160 in T20Is for India in last 12 months or so. Samson definitely deserves another go but not too soon. Iyer is in the side on merit.

Which Iyer are you talking about? V or S?
