And who is 'they'? From what I have read and Kohli himself said that he was never asked to stay. His decision was taken 'positively' by the management. If they were so keen to have him continue, they wouldn't have accepted it in first place.
MS Dhoni?
Yeah, people go blind when he made India no.1 test team. They go blind when he betters captaincy records ahead of the likes of Dhoni and Ganguly. People don't remember him winning 7 out of 9 world cup matches. People don't remember anything at all. He is the worst captain India has ever seen. Just because he has not won a damn ICC/IPL trophy. Even Dravid, Ganguly didn't as the captain.
Okay, let's say Shreyas Iyer. By that logic, Shreyas should be the captain of national team now? Because he did great in IPL team captaincy?
India played 2 matches against Pakistan not 3. And the Asia Cup had Afghanistan, Hong kong and Bangladesh too. Being a host team, Pakistan not making it to the finals shows how good they were at that time. Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. And IPL stint? This is the only justification Rohit fans give to people. He won 5 titles blah blah blah... If IPL was a decider, why would players like Gaikwad, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, and many others fail in international Circuit? I know individual performance is different from captaincy. But IPL is not everything is my point here
In other words, 'careless'. With such a huge responsibility, if you are not able to take care of yourself, how would you lead the national team?
I'm being harsh here but that is what it is. If India cannot move on from Kohli and Rohit and struggle under Pant or Rahul, what future do we as India have? Rohit is 35, which means 2-3 yrs of cricket left which will fade away as he ages. Same goes with Kohli. And Rohit to miss out half of the games in that period for sure. As usual, prone to injuries.
