It's easy against a team of 12 year olds
Shikhar Dhawan to lead India in West Indies ODIs
Shikhar Dhawan to lead India in West Indies ODIs
Jadeja named vice-captain; Rohit, Kohli, Hardik, Bumrah, Pant and Shami rested for three-match serieswww.espncricinfo.com
I need to swear!
Sorry but what the actual F**** is going on here?
You discard Dhawan altogether, then bring him back as your 8th effing captain in as many series. To top it,Jadeja is the deputy. The very same Jadeja who couldn't handle the pressures of leading an IPL franchise may well become India's next captain here. (Given the injury toll, I wouldn't be surprised)
Now, why is Rohit not playing? Wasn't he announced as the captain earlier. Remember,he is supposed to be India's all format captain who hasn't led the country ever since his appointment. Why has he been rested here? If the series is deemed inconsequential, then pay the fine and don't send in a joke of a team.
Thirdly, might as well keep rotating coaches too. Let the captain also contend with a new coach every series. As it is, the likes of Sehwag, Nehra want to coach the side. Throw in some international names and you'll have a great variety to choose from, for the World Cup.
These guys are literally me.Why the fearsome tweak Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah need rest after rest in freaking every series.
Hypocrisy: We can't have different captains for different formats. That won't work in India. So we are removing Virat from captaincy in limited overs and hand it over to Rohit.
Same BCCI has now used more number of captains in short period of time. Pant, Bumrah, Dhawan, Rohit, KLR, Hardik. Am I missing someone?
Oh the irony!
My bad! I was referring to Dhawan in the overall limited overs scheme of things.Dhawan was never kept out of the scheme of things in ODIs. He hasn't missed a single series since January 2020. Now that's quite a long period!
Never a full series, mind you!He was appointed as the Captain in November 2021, since then he has led India in 9 T20Is, 3 ODIs & 2 Tests.
I would say go with Hardik in the LOI.It seems the backlash has been tremendous. As per Times of India, Rohit, Pant and Bumrah will be travelling to the Caribbean with the side. The T20 team will be lead by Rohit.
Actually we can. If the full time captain isn't fit enough to lead in all formats( I had my doubts over Rohit as Test captain), it is better that he steps aside. IMO, Rohit ought to lead India in limited overs until the conclusion of the WT20. Win or lose, he ought to step down and hand over to Hardik for T20s. Thereafter, let Rohit take the ODI side as long as he wants/ or until the BCCI finds a worthy replacement.
For Test matches, the best option for the side was Ajinkya Rahane- he unfortunately is no longer in the mix of things and hence wouldn't be considered further. The next best- atleast some one with a cricketing brain is Ravichandran Ashwin. Let him take over for 2 years- similar to the role Kumble played earlier.
The options after the CWC 2023 for me are quite clear:
T20: Hardik
Test & ODI: Iyer/Gill/Shaw - I still go by these as they have adequate experience of having led India A/India U19 and Mumbai (Iyer and Shaw)
How do you define a full series? Australia's recent tour of Sri Lanka is a rare thing in today's world. Most of the teams play only 2 of the 3 formats in a single tour these days.Never a full series, mind you!
This is accurateWas going through the stats of Rohit as Captain.
Surprisingly he hasn't been the captain for India against top teams like England, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand (2 matches). He has either skipped playing those series or coincidentally got injured.
He has been the captain against Srilanka, Westindies, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand for 2 games.
Out of 13 games in ODI as captain, 6 were home games against Srilanka and Westindies. 5 games of Asia Cup in UAE against Hongkong, Bangladesh, Pakistan. And two games against New Zealand in New Zealand, we lost one and won the second game.
In Test, 2 home games against Srilanka which they terribly lost.
In T20I, India won 24 matches and lost 4. 18 were home games, 7 were away games (4 in Srilanka and 2 in New Zealand, 1 in South Africa) and 3 were neutral venues.
Hope I did a proper filtering to get those data. Correct me if any info is incorrect.
This will always come up. Like it or not, IPL is here to stay. The recent media rights have already propelled it to a point where it won't be surprising to have players prefer to play the full IPL and miss the other tours. To be fair to them, I doubt that this decision will be 100% up to the player. The franchise owners, with the amount of money they pump into the tournament, are likely to either arm twist or emotionally convince players or the board to allow a player to carry on with niggles/without a break leaving the player without much of a choice. The $$$ that a player earns can ultimately come back to bite him hard as well. It's a double-edged sword. Not trying to start anything (ahem) but how many IPL matches has Rohit missed/skipped?
Then there is no point cribbing about poor performances and player unavailability at all - it is all linked to the monster than is IPLThis will always come up. Like it or not, IPL is here to stay.
