Makes sense that Dravid is extended atleast until the T20 World Cup, since right now, Laxman seems the only other alternative. Read rumors on social media that Ashish Nehra was offered the T20 coaching job and he has declined the offer. Not sure how true it is, but good decision by Nehra if true! He gets to man the boundary during Gujarat Titans games for a month or slightly more and gets a big fat paycheque. And then he can go home and be with family. Why worry much with the national side when the hyper nationalists will bay for your blood and you have to go through such intense stress of patriotism tinged trolls? I am actually starting to root for a foreign coach. Former Indian players might have a different opinion about it, but its just not worth the hassle for an Indian coach, and a foreign coach can remain detached and yet be performance oriented/focused. Our recent WC and CT titles came under foreign coaches (Gary Kirsten and Duncan Fletcher).
Also hearing news that Rohit is coming back as captain for the T20 WC since Hardik is likely to return to cricket only for IPL and the T20 WC is in June, immediately after IPL. But Kohli has decided to sit out of the white ball games on the South Africa tour and has made himself available only for tests. Does that mean Kohli has given up on T20I format and will likely not play the WC next year? If so, it will be a good decision. I still feel Rohit also should not play the T20 WC and let the young guys handle that WC. If they are not impressed with Surya's captaincy, give it to KL Rahul if you want to. Or Bumrah. Or someone new (can be a brave call, like how Dhoni was given the role in 2007).
The guy you are tagging there, is a very well renowned cricket analyst. He has worked with the South Africa national side for many years and has a very deep bonding with their players like ABD, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, etc. He also is the in-house expert on Ashwin's YouTube channel, especially when IPL happens.
But I agree - this take of his is a "stupid take". With the riches present in domestic cricket, it makes no sense to go back to someone who has retired. In 2007, Dhoni was given captaincy out of the blue when no one expected and he won the title. If at all we dont find a suitable captain, a similar thing can be done by giving someone new the chance (like a Tilak or a Jaiswal or a Gaikwad or even an Axar). In a T20 WC where things change in balls, such experiments have better chances of working.

I hope Chahar is given a good run from here till the T20 WC. A Powerplay bowler and a 'more than useful batter' who is becoming almost a lower order batsman. He has won a game for India with the bat, in Sri Lanka (a series where Dravid was the standby coach while Shastri was the national coach). This is not a CSK bias opinion. We seriously need bowlers who can help with the bat, while being good in their primary skill. If Hardik can be persisted despite his fragile physical nature, why not Chahar?

I'm enjoying the hot takes from disappointed India fans.

Deepak Chahar added to India's squad for last two T20Is against Australia
Seamer last played for India in December 2022, and came in even as Mukesh Kumar was released for his marriage ahead of third T20I
