India Team Discussion

Based on the selection policy that you last used, Peter Moores might have a shot ;)
I too guess this might happen as BCCI don't have the guts to select someone agressive like Sourav Ganguly. They'll idea choose someone who is like a puppet for them, Dravid is definitely not one of them too as he takes his cricket very very seriously and would always have his say. So its a strong chance we might have Moores or Justin Langer or may be Mike Hussey (there was some talk in them media that Hussey was being recommended by MS Dhoni) but Huss has returned has player in IPL so I don't know. An outside chance for Ravi Shastri too if he's willing to give away his career as cricket commentator.

I have to say, the Star Sports ads "Bachcha hai Bachcha" in the build up to India B'desh series are the most patronising ads I have ever seen in the build up to a series.

Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman in BCCI panel | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Rahul Dravid was unavailable for the role. I really hope he gets a coaching job at India A. Even though the 3 names above is always good to see but I want Rahul Dravid to be involved in some way. May be even the team director?
Some people are telling that Rahul might have refused for the job because he might have been secretly offered the job of the coach. I find it rubbish because BCCI thinks Sachin is the ultimate Indian cricketer there ever has been and if they would give a job to Sachin it would be the highest authority which if Rahul becomes the coach will certainly not be so I think they will bring in a foreign coach. Wondered how all the talks about Hussey and Langer has been wiped under the carpet of late? May be its one of the two who will eventually become the coach. Sounds like a ridiculous theory but we all know how BCCI functions.

Rahul Dravid in consideration for India Under-19 coach | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

It is also understood that Dravid was approached to join the advisory committee but he was keener on a more hands-on role.

So as I mentioned in my last post, Dravid is likely to take up India A and under 19 coaching role which is exciting because he is awesome at coaching young guys coming through. I don't think Dravid and Sachin were ever in contention for India coaching role because they both have denied in the past that they can't take that role due to the busy schedule of team India. Sourav Gangully was in frame for team director role but now that he is on the panel, Shastri will continue as team director for Bangladesh tour. Justin Langer is also out of contention since he has extended his contract as head coach at Western Australia. That leaves Michael Hussey but I don't think he will be the coach and I feel we will see someone else.

So Tom Moody and Daniel Vettori are the two names that are being thrown around for the head coach right now. Tom Moody has been recommended by VVS Laxman and Daniel Vettori has been recommended by Virat Kohli. Also it is baffling to see that BCCI couldn't come up with a head coach in the last 2 months. Our season starts with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe so it wold have been a perfect time to introduce new coaching staff so the players and the staff can get on the same page before South Africa arrives. I came across an interesting article on cricinfo about.

V Ramnarayan: Why Bishan Bedi's views matter | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Bedi's recent criticism of the Indian selectors' tendency to pitchfork young spinners into Test cricket on the basis of their so-called success in the IPL is a case in point. Four overs in T20 is rapidly becoming the new 15 minutes of fame. It should remain just that -15 minutes of fame - unless the bowler in question has proven credentials in the longer game. Karn Sharma's selection in the Test team for the Bangladesh tour is a baffling one, especially given the manner in which the folly of the move was exposed in Australia not so long ago. Are the selectors not sending wrong signals to Test aspirants, such as those still remaining in this new era of instant gratification? What might those bowlers who have been around for years be feeling? Do they feel cheated? Are they already reconciled to the imminent end of their Test hopes? Should the national selectors not insist on at least two or three good first-class seasons as a minimum criterion for selection to the Indian team?

Yeah I guess they shouldn't hurry up on selecting coach for the indian team..

i dont mind them taking time as long as they get someone good!
Thats the problem. They don't pick the best available players for the coaching role barring a few occasions particularly the people like batting/bowling/fielding coaches. They do pick decent players for the main coach's role but certainly they are not the best available. Fletcher was too old even when he was first signed as India's coach. Kapil was never a good coach. We picked Kirsten who had little experience as coach but thankfully he turned out to be one of the best ever coaches.

Talking about coaches, is anyone aware of the whereabouts of John Buchanan?

As far as coaching goes I couldn't help but notice that all the coaches so far have been batsmen. Wright, Chappell, Kirsten (don't know what Fletcher was).

The thing is the problem is clearly the bowling and fast bowling, and thus I would like a fast bowler to take over as coach who knows how to bowl in foreign conditions. Someone like Donald or Gillespie or even Pollock. So far Moody is the only seam bowler being mentioned and honestly I have been terribly disappointed with how he has dealt with SRH in the IPL. I think he has shown a distinct lack of creativity and I am not convinced about his coaching.

Moody was never a good bowler himself and hasn't done well of late as a coach.
