India Team Discussion

What has gone wrong with india ? {NEW VERSION}

Batting: The batting is not cohesive. If one fails, all fail. Leave aside the technical deficiencies of facing a swinging ball, they are not even able to play Moeen Ali properly. Spin bowling is supposed to be fodder for Indian born batsmen...

Bowling: Perennial problem. We simply do not have the bowlers capable enough to take 20 wickets in a test match. Forget about fast bowling, which we never had the luxury of, spin bowlers in the current team cannot earn a single wicket on their own. Heck, they don't even SPIN the ball. Moeen Ali, a part timer, is comfortably out spinning our Indian spin wizards.

Fielding: Less said the better because it has been so disgusting. When people like Jadeja, Kohli (the supposed world class fielders of India) drop so many catches, what can we expect from Aarons and Pankajs of the team?

Test Match skills and temperament: Barring a very few like Rahane, Vijay, Bhuvi and Pujara to an extent, none of the others have shown the skills or temperament required for test matches. Bowlers lack discipline and patience to earn wickets. Batsmen are too flashy and some players are not even test match material (including our captain) but they are still in the team. Inspite of the obvious flaws in test match ability and technique, our Captain at least shows some fight on the field, which is not reciprocated by the other more talented members of the team.

I think you're still stuck in summer 2014. You should buy a time machine.

Basically why I been posting on these forums a while now to reintegrate Gambhir/Harbhajan/Yuvraj/Zaheer/Sehwag back into the team, their experience was needed guys like Pujara/Dhawan etc are flyby night cricketers, sadly Zaheer and Sehwag have retired!

I don't know why you're so fixated on Moeen Ali, but there are some problems for the Test batsmen. That said, Dhawan, Sharma, Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are all quality players. If nurtured properly, Himanshu Rana could be another Tendulkar.

Ravi Ashwin has the best Test bowling average of any Indian. There are probably also some good bowlers who have never played for CSK, but that's just a rumour.

Yeah, Ashwin's a player that people don't mention a whole lot but he's really very good. He averages 28 with the ball and 32 with the bat, most teams would kill to have a player like him in their side. He seems to be getting more credit now, but in the past he'd randomly be dropped for Jadeja despite being better in every way

Once again, he was dropped because went through a really bad phase where his skills were almost ruined by the captain and the management. Despite the main spinner, he was asked to contain the batsmen instead of going for wickets. So he started trying all these variations instead of working on his stock delivery. We all remember the Sunil Narine copycat action that he tried while wearing full sleeved jersey which bombed big time. On the other hand, you had Jadeja taking 6fers in overseas Tests. Nothing random about it

We are all glad he has finally back to his senses and is bowling the upto his skill levels

This is kind of funny. On one hand Shaharyar is worried about the "security issues" in India/Mumbai. On the other hand he says, they will pull out of T20WC if India doesnt play them in a bilateral series. So if India agrees to resume bilateral ties, security will no longer be an issue :spy They atleast need to pick on one point and stick to it to be taken seriously.

Also, the Shaharyar and Najam Sethi's different opinions on how they were treated by the BCCI is amusing

Shahryar and Sethi are both clowns. They're the only ones in Pakistan who want a series with India.

Post 2002 India got a bunch of amazing talent in the form of Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nera and the likes. I remember the 2004 series, where India beat Pakistan in the home series and Sanjay Manjerker said that this is the new Indian team. India has categorically lived a golden era under MS. Dhoni. All credit goes to him because a great captain takes work from amazing talent, but if the leader isn't good enough, you can't really do much with how much talent you have. I genuinely feel that Indian era is taking its last breath. The team certainly needs a new life, new energy and a good head as a Captain.

If you are making Virat as captain after Dhoni, Stick with it. The hot heads gets cool with experience but remember that leadership quality is by birth as well as by experience....

I do agree that the Dhoni age/era is done ... and to give the guy credit, he has held every major/minor multinational trophy there is to win, in all three formats.

[IPL, T20 Champs League] World T20, Asia Cup, Champions Trophy, World Cup, and the Mace for #1 Test Side.

There has never been and (probably never will be) another captain, who will come even close to matching MSDs Trophy List. However its inevitable that MSD must make way for the new leader. All captains have their quirks and players who they trust more than someone else would. With Dhoni it was the Jadejas and Rainas of the world. And who is to argue with all that Dhoni has achieved, with which players he chose to go with.

I do think the WorldT20 in India will be his final event. If MSD does continue after that, then he must do so as a player, the Captaincy has to pass on now.

Whats going on with our players and management ?

Three separate cases in 3 days.
First the Gambhi v Tiwary's ugly spat on field. Now there are reports that Shastri abused the curator for the last ODI, because the pitch wasn't spin friendly. And read a headline where Amit mishra was arrested and then let out on bail

The key problem is binny is talked of as the best allrounder in the country, even off form pathan brothers n yuvi are xtimes better than that, we should try out rishi dhwan and gurkeerat. Also in bowling Mohit has to be dropepd, shami n yadav in.

Yes and axar Patel also.....What I think is that mohit and axar has some source from where they always get elected in the team.Though out of 15 we can easily make a team without Axar Patel, stuart binny, mohit sharma, Suresh raina(unable to play longer than 20 runs,Do not bowl that much good that he can be in as a bowler, only for fielding - no way)

WoW we may be again seeig the best opening batsmen of india playing together in the ALL STARS 2015.I am a lot excited about it. It would be great.Hope that our Xplayers will play just like how they played in thier pre-retirement career.
