India Team Discussion

Yes Akshar can bat but If you are in a knockout game against Australia where you have Mitchell Johnson and Starc bowling thunderbolts, I would rather have Jadeja at strike than Akshar. Simply because Akshar is not ready yet. Yes he can bat but we can give him a proper run after the world cup and prepare him as an all rounder.

So you think Jadeja can handle them? I doubt so. He comes down the track often and edges one high only to get caught.

Interesting to read the debate on Jadeja vs Axar.

Personally I think we have too many bits and pieces cricketers already, and our bowling is horrible. India cannot be chasing down 300 totals every match, and we need the better bowler for that to operate. Axar is a better bowler than Jadeja. Hence he would get picked.

Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Ashwin
Bhuvi/Binny
Axar
Mohit
Shami

What do you think of this squad? I think most will agree this is perhaps the best squad to go with. Who would you pick between Binny and Bhuvi. Personally I would go for Bhuvi, as I am not convinced that Binny brings enough with the bat. If Binny could score 20-25 every game I would go for Binny, but he has been inconsistant with the bat.

Akshar is an attacking bowler while Jadeja is a usual line and length one. We have too many of such bowlers so we should definitely pick Axar (he can bat good. I can tell you that). Is Varun Aaron injured? If not, India is missing a great chance to play two pacey and attacking bowlers together. I'm not impressed with Mohit. India have dozens of bowlers like him.

Axar Needs To Come For Bowling Instead Of Jadeja Or Afghani Will Beat A Strong Team

There's no way Afghanistan can score 365 against a (gulp) test quality bowling attack.

Everytime I see Afghanistan team, I like them more. I love their spirit towards the game. They seem to be consistently strong unlike Ireland who are up and down, up and down. They look like just another rising associate team. No one could tell they are from a war torn country.

In fact lets try all the combinations Ind could go with -

Option 1 -
Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Ashwin
Bhuvi/Binny
Axar
Mohit/Umesh
Shami

Takes into account the present form of the players. With the bowlers not performing much, the side batting heavy which can chase down or post huge totals, to basically compensate for the poor bowling.

Option 2 -
Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
Rayudu
MSD
Binny
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bhuvi

Basically pack the side with batsmen only, and forget that bowling exists. Seems like a terrible line up if u ask me. Rohit, Kohli, Raina and Rayudu, to chip in as the 5th bowler.

Option 3 -

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Binny
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Shami
Yadav/Mohit

Basically forget everything, and the past tri-series and start new. Go in with a 4 seamers and a spinner bowling attack and trust the bowlers.

Option 4 -
Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Axar
Shami/Mohit

A tweak on option 3 with 2 spinner and 3 seamers, but again with 5 specialist bowlers, and thus trusting our bowlers to do a job.

Option 5-
Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Jadeja
Ashwin
Axar
Shami/Bhuvi
Yadav/Mohit

Again 5 specialist bowlers but play 3 spinners and 2 seamers. While any two of the four could play, I have gone with the ones I think are most conducive to Aus conditions. While this formation gives, arguably the best balance between bat and ball, but the downside is 3 spinenrs and 2 seamers strategy is kinda not exactly the most conventional of line ups for the kind of pitches they will be playing on.

So which option would you prefer?

You Are Taking Axar To Low He can bat a bit so he must come before Ashwin Means After Dhoni

If Bhuvi is not playing, I'd go for Binny simply because we can't play two bowlers with similar pace who almost mandatorily have to be bowled out in one spell but we don't have such luxury it seems. Also, I'd say be courageous and drop Ashwin who does nothing. Get a seamer in place of him (this is where we are missing Varun Aaron).

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli/Rahane
Rahane/Kohli
Raina
MSD
Binny
Axar
Shami
Yadav
Bhuvi

Everybody is talking about allrounder at #7 but if Dhoni gets his form back, that dilemma would be over. 6 batsmen should be enough ideally. #7 be it Axar, Jadeja or Binny can all bat in bits and pieces and then we can have Ashwin to follow at #8 as well. So, for me, if Dhoni gets regains his form all the problem will be solved and for that he has to spend more time in the middle (yes, I know we havebeen in Australia for months now). He should've batted higher against a comparatively much weaker team as Afghanistan.

20.3 Jadeja to Usman Ghani, OUT, ha ha, what a dismissal that is! Goes for a big hit and doesn't quite judge the length right. Ball turns and he sends it soaring high in the air over the on side. Dhawan, running back from short midwicket, and Umesh, running in from long-on, converge on the ball. Dhawan is quicker to it, dives, gets it in his grasp, but spills it when his elbows hit the ground. Then he manages to juggle it while sliding forward, once, twice, and then into Umesh's waiting hands. Brilliant work there from Dhawan.

Usman Ghani c Yadav b Jadeja 44 (72b 4x4 1x6) SR: 61.11
Like A Boss!!

Our bowling really sucks! We can't even take wickets of associate teams. Our bowling is not going to allow us to do well in this WC.

If Afghanistan had sorted out Tendulkar's visa like they were supposed to before the World Cup (His original country of origin is Afghanistan) they would've won this warm-up match by now...
