India Team Discussion

Just my humble opinion but Kohli is getting overrated. Firstly, he is a fantastic player with a surreal record, no doubt about it. But consider the fact that he has been playing on favourable conditions for quite some time. Even against Australia and the World Cup in 2015, the pitches were subcontinental. The pitches were designed to suit India. His test average was in the low 40s before he went on a mad streak against teams that were poor considering the conditions.

It is for this reason that I often restrain myself from calling current batsmen (essentially batsmen whose best periods have come post 2010) legends. The conditions are so favourable that a batsman can be nothing special but still average 45+. Case in point, Warner. I don't think Root/Smith/Kane would fare any lesser than Kohli if they had the privilege of playing in such a strong team on flat pitches. This isn't to say Kohli is bad but rather that he isn't superior to his peers. If you hold any doubts about my claim that Kohli is overhyped, observe cricinfo when he scores a century and when others do. Whereas others get one or two, he gets four or five. Maybe it is because the journos are pandering to the crowd considering Indian fans are the ones who visit the site most often, but it is there for all to see.

To make it clear once again, I think Kohli is a spectacular player but we are blessed to have other batsmen on the same level as him. To call him the world's best or a legend is outright injustice to those who have to play in worse teams on tougher tracks.

Like i said in the in the previous post Kohli is great in ODIs irrespective of the conditions especially while chasing and no one even comes close to him in that and he deserves every bit of Hype.
But in test matches there is still a long long way to go before he can prove his mettle as one of the great.

In ODI and T20I.

Its foolish of Ganguly to say that yeah Records/stats don't lie but its the quality thats set apart the best from the rest.
Considering the bowling attack and the pitches Tendulkar faced at his times (the likes of McGrath,Warne,Gillespe,Lee) Even in the 1992 tour Tendulkar's hundred at Perth is still rated by some as one of his best innings on the fast bouncy WACA unlike today's roadroller where Teams scored over 500 in both innings (2015 Australia vs New Zealand test ,Taylor scored some 250 odd runs).
Kohli is class apart with a doubt but imagine Tendulkar playing in these drop - in pitches in Australia his records would have been completely different - he still averages 52 odd in 20 test matches contrary to Kohli's 62 in 8 matches.Tendulkar even on a an absolute turner of a track can make batting look ridiculously easy (vs pakistan at chepauk and 96 wc semifinal against lanka).
So even comparing records of different eras or Tendulkar would struggled to match Kohli is foolishness in my opinion.
Sachin Tendulkar was not half the sportsman that Kohli is at this moment.

What was so special about that 100 in Perth? Honestly I havent seen much of this 'legendary inns' , please enlighten us.
