India Team Discussion

Kohli as a leader has made India the undisputed best team on the planet. One game shouldn't change how he's perceived. Could argue Rahane/Ashwin possess keener cricketing minds but replacing Kohli as the captain would be knee-jerk at its finest and would also obviously affect the dressing room. The media hype around him is extremely annoying but some of the criticisms on the internet about him after the final has been very unfair too.

As for Kumble, players are more important than the coach. If you're a decision-maker, who would you keep? A player in the peak of his career who aside from being ridiculously good at his job also brings in millions of revenue or a coach whose influence on the game doesn't extend (for the major part) beyond the dressing room?

Undisputed best team in the world? What you smoking playboy? Let me ask you something over the last 18 mths have India defeated SA in SA? Have India defeated Aus in Aus? Have India defeated Eng in Eng? Have India won the T20 WC or a series against T20 series against the WI away from home? Have the Indians win a major ODI tournament? No one is saying anything about one game. Ask yourself has Kohli come out trumps the few times in important matches as captain? Kohli's attitude and continuous rifts with team management augurs negative for the team!

IMG_2364.JPG Who will be India cricket coach after Anil Kumble? Here are a few names

Just to keep all those informed. Sehwag looks like the best man for the job. Moody and Prybus is a no no, India are not ready for foreign coaches. Sehwag can forge a pretty strong relationship with the players and BCCI management, my only worries is the CAC, its been know for a while Sachin has always felt threatened by Sehwag, and as such may not approve of him taking up the coaching position as part of his personal vendetta against Sehwag. Sehwag is highly respected, professinal and has a wealth if experience from his leadership at Kings punjabi

What about lalchand rajput ? He was there with the team when we won the wt20 in 2007 and was there until Kirsten takeover,he has a fair bit of coaching experience in the u19s,club teams and is the current coach of Afghanistan cricket team.

Kohli and co would eat him raw, another Kumble.

This Kumble - Kohli sage is just bull shit which should have not come out of the closed doors. I have all respect for Kumble but I cannot make a judgement only hearing one side of the story. Also who are these moron officials of BCCI who remain anonymous and let the secret spill out of the door. I am afraid what will happen to the coming world because MEDIA along with SOCIAL MEDIA is becoming too powerful. By saying we live in democracy we can do anything, people have forgotten the moral responsibility and way of living life. You cannot ruin life just because law permits you to. I have always lived cricket just like my fellow subcontinent folks. We love our team, our players. But seeing how things have progressed from spot fixing scandals to poor management, from bullshit rules of 10 team WC, I am afraid to say I am losing interest in cricket day by day. Heck I did not even wake up to watch the matches for this years CT.

The 10 team world cup is really distasteful....

All possible WI will have to go through pre qualification and series with England and Australia would cease sending their cricket into further peril.

All the associates/affiliates wouldnt participate now. Recall a Canadian guy had the record for fastest century in the world cup, or how about that fat guy Leveorck from bermuda?

this article has a great write up on the events that lead up to Kumble resigning:

Virat Kohli: Kumble-Kohli communication had stopped six months ago - Times of India

Even myself have no idea to say who are in the wrong here, have max respect for both guys. I think though Sehwag can excel Kumble.

I think bringing Parthiv Patel into the side would be a backward step for India. Though he has a strong record in the last couple of seasons, and his IPL stats have been commendable; he seems to lack the power-hitting game at the top of the order. If I am not mistaken, the likes of Rohit Sharma wasted to much time preserving their wicket at the top rather than attacking. I would say India would be better off giving Karthik or Uthappa a turn in the team - both have become very consistent batsmen with an aggressive mindset (and are more athletic keepers). With the likes of Pant in the background for future XI, it seems that option might be the best for the near future.

No no. No Uthappa as keeper please! He is not a professional keeper. He might be athletic, but he is not a specialist keeper and India should not be trying someone like that, again ever in the future.

In the recent IPL, Parthiv was pretty aggressive at the top of the order. In fact, he was batting with Jos Buttler and Parthiv was the one doing most of the fast scoring.

Anil Kumble left India job after giving 'dressing-down' to player | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

So We are getting part of the other side of the story now. I think as someone rightly said before that it is better to hear both sides before making a judgement in case like this. Both Kumble and Kohli are strong personalities and clash of ego is not a surprise at all. However, as the article mentions, Kumble being the senior here should have taken a backward step when needed.

I also think this is the result of how Shastri operated the team during his time as the team director for 2 years. Shastri as we all know is more laid back and he is more like motivational speaker for the team. Clearly Kumble is completely opposite who will stick with discipline and will be more straight forward to players. I have also heard that Kohli suggested Shastri's name as the coach even though he hasn't even applied for the position. So some interesting times ahead.

Doors open for Ravi Shastri? BCCI widens its search for new coach - Times of India

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), who is entrusted to find Anil Kumble's successor would be looking beyond the current list of applicants, a development which may pave the way for the entry of Ravi Shastri, who has remained as a top choice of captain Kohli.

It means that the likes of Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh - who have applied for the job of head coach - won't get a cake-walk. "This move could also be seen to prop up the candidature of former Indian team director Ravi Shastri as a possible replacement. But there is more to than meets the eye," a source said.

lol it'd be funny to have Viru as a coach, will make or break the team.

This is why I find the 'CAC' body a joke. It is an absolute joke! Now there's Sehwag in the fray. I will guarantee you that Shastri or him will land the job. There's friendships to cater to. CAC with Sehwag, Kohli with Shastri! Either way, we'll be ridiculed.

If there is one iota of professionalism, Moody will be made coach!

What is the job of the coach? To push the players to a zone where they perform at their best and to the team's benefit. We have seen so many times that human beings like to be in their own comfort zones which is not really the ideal zone of 'where they need to be if they have to perform at their best'. The coach holds the mirror to the player and drives them to get into that zone. And most of the time, the players are not going to like it.

And see this article. Just a day after Kumble steps down, Abhinav Bindra (India's famous shooter sportsperson) says this Abhinav Bindra: Just saying, stuck to a coach I hated, for 20 years

If you read the above article, he says "he hated his coach but stuck to him for 20 years and then calls him "his biggest teacher". That's what coaches do. You are very likely to hate the way they push you. But if he stick to them, they are going to help you win laurels for the country and yourself. Didn't we even see this in a popular Bollywood movie, Chak De India?

IMO, the BCCI should set parameters for "where the players can have a say and where they cannot".
Gary Kirsten who I'd argue was the best coach we ever had and he was able to do what you said, it's the approach the players are not taking a liking to. Let's look at all the head coaches we've had recently, Gary Kirsten, Duncan Fletcher, Ravi Shashtri (not technically head coach but) and Anil Kumble, tell me if you can spot the odd man out. :p
