India Team Discussion

I don't see how Dhoni-Gambhir come in direct conflict in this scenario :|

Gambhir was the stand in captain for Dhoni. So naturally, when Dhoni would be back as the captain again

And you yourself said that Gambhir hit a miserable patch of form in England (which followed a very poor series against Pakistan) and was dropped. And then Rohit/Dhawan did really well as openers and locked those positions for some time. Seems very run of the mill stuff to me

Now that Gambhir is back in form, it looks like he is being considered for the national team again. Although he has only found form in T20 and doesn't have much to show for the other formats. But he can definitely be given a go against Zimbabwe after IPL

Why does everyone get so enamoured by conspiracy theories on this forum is beyond me, just like you.

Also, the media needs to sell so they're going to promote the theory of Gambhir being left out inspite of his form.

In my opinion, Gambhir has been in no such form! His SR is always poultry and more than numbers, impact on the game plays a bigger role. He has a huge benefit of an Uthappa playing the perfect attacking/rotating role to open with, if Uthappa falls a classy Pandey and enormous power to follow. The game against MI, the likes of Russell and Pathan and Yadav had to come in and do all the work! His release shots have come against domestic spin bowling to cuts or slogs of full tosses or half trackers and he simply piles on the numbers because he has a huge cushion of a quality batting line up and well balanced bowling attack! If you're really looking at national talent in the KKR squad, it's Pandey and SKY! What Gambhir is doing, Rahane is doing better and there is a Dhawan if you need a left hander. Personally, I'd look ahead to the next WC and I'd put someone like a Pant/Vohra in the deep end and groom them for the next WC!

The format where Gambhir can be effective and where India need his experience and grit is the ODI format! I think we are losing ODI series after ODI series and he's someone that can anchor in that format.

He has scored two test centuries and he was always good in domestic cricket. And now in IPL, he has been very consistent. He is in good form.

Still remembers the nervous debut KL Rahul had.But then he came back strongly and scored a test century. He again looked pretty ordinary in some of his next innings and then scored a century again.Keeping the two hundreds aside his highest score in tests is just 16 ! But he has improved a lot after that and looked really promising in IPL.But his keeping skills needs to improve a lot.

He was becoming a strong candidate for Indian captaincy surpassing Dhoni
He surely wasn't a captain material and neither he looked future captain. No one wants a captain who throws tantrums all round. KKR is just having him because somehow team is clicking and winning or there isn't any good options. His disappearance was based on his poor form and all the drama around captaincy.

So everyone who replaces the permanent captain for a series and does well isn't going to replace the original.

If only Rahul was a good keeper also. I think Saha will be taking an unnecessary place. So if Rahul gets tried out as keeper then it will be beneficial for us. We get a keeper and a good batsman. Saha just doesn't click me as an international material.

Dhoni was never a captain material.
He just got lucky because others steps back. There may be some secret behind this too.
And when India started winning because of legends he got the praise and became the permanent captain.
Now when all gone we can see what happened to India in both the world cup.
Even Gautam is not a good choice for captaincy if it is for 2019 world cup.
The only option left is Virat.
But Dhoni won't retire and selectors won't sack him.
If any changes needed then the selectors.
They are awful.

somehow team is clicking? haha!! :D In almost every match, they are breaking the winning combination and still they are winning almost all matches! last night against RPS, Gautam had shown once again his prompt captaincy skills!

I told already, his is arrogant, somewhere rude, got ego problem but yet! I can see a good captain in him. He has the personality traits of some successful captains like Ponting and Strauss. He and Virat actually show two different characteristic of aggressive captains. Virat is animated on field and likes to get on to nerves of opposition and Gautam has typical aggressive aussie personality as he tend to be aggressive both physically and verbally!

I think you answered your own post. He breaks winning combinations and still wins games because the KKR side has enormous depth. I have no doubt in my mind Gambhir is a brilliant captain and a leader of men. He's built a side around him and he deserves credit for it. Is he batting well in T20's? I definitely don't think so.

His personality? FFS, give me a break. His field placements to Dhoni were egoistic. His reaction on getting out and cursing the umpire even more so in bad taste. He was plum! His reaction in a few games prior was even worse. I get all the aggression and everything but even in all that you can be a sport. Someone with some class, and Gambhir is aeons away from that! If anything, he behaves like one sore bitter loser!

I agree, Kohli, despite him being aggressive, is better than Gambhir and even with his fairly rubbish bowlers, he looks calmer than GG in IPL and isn't bitter.

Naman Ohja also did well out there in Sri Lanka. I think he can be a better replacement for wriddhiman saha and Rahul can take Dhawan's place

Rahul should take Dhawan's place in tests. No doubt about it. But we need a solid wkt-kpr batsman and I don't think Saha is the right choice. Rahul's wkt-keeping skills are not good and hence he can't keep. Same goes to Uthappa.

What do you guys think about Dinesh Karthik ? He can be a decent replacement for Saha/Ojha.
