Busy day at work and I fell asleep at 8:30 or 9(145/6), to wake up in the middle of the night and see and incredible performance by the team, esp the openers holding 13 overs as compared to England, who didn't hold even 1!

Jason Roy playing well tonight. Maybe we should give him another run as test opener.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see this become a bit of an '89 Ashes.

Players who could easily miss a game or more this series
:eng: :bat: Rory Burns - he's England's second-best available batsman at the present, but when he's playing badly it looks really bad. Has already been dropped recently.
:eng: :bat: Dominic SIbley - today was ugly to watch; also a very unfashionable type of player
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley - yeah...
:eng: :bat: Joe Root - going to get a severe back injury from all the carrying he has to do here
:eng: :bat: Dan Lawrence - eight Tests averaging 27 doesn't necessarily invite more Test opportunities
:eng: :wkb: Jonny Bairstow - will somehow play all five Tests won't he
1628110918700.png
:eng: :wkb: Jos Buttler - not a good start to the series that one
:eng: :ar: Sam Curran - at some point he may make way for somebody new - a spinner perhaps?
:eng: :bwl: Ollie Robinson - what if he tweets again?
:eng: :bwl: Stuart Broad - may be rotated across the series
:eng: :bwl: Jimmy Anderson - ditto

Yes I did just list the whole team and only one of those was a pisstake.

Players who could easily come in for them
:eng: :bat: Haseeb Hameed - he's the reserve opener in the squad
:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes - will definitely return if it's appropriate in the context of his mental and physical health
:eng: :wkb: Ollie Pope - ought to come back from his injury; is incumbent batsman
:eng: :wk: Ben Foakes - idk how his recovery is going but maybe?
:eng: :ar: Chris Woakes - has to at least play at Lord's, no?
:eng: :bwl: Craig Overton - in the squad as a back-up seamer
:eng: :bwl: Mark Wood - will play this series
:eng: :bwl: Dom Bess - a spinner who offers a bit of a batting option
:eng: :bwl: Jack Leach - the most established English Test spinner
:eng: :bwl: Matt Parkinson - only so many stellar leg-breaks before a Test cap, surely?

Players who I'd probably bring in for banter in a Cricket Captain save
:eng: :bat: Jake Libby - probably the form opener in the County Championship
:eng: :bat: James Vince - nobody's scoring runs anyway: might as well look good while not scoring them
:eng: :bat: Dawid Malan - bring him in
:eng: :bat: Tom Abell - ahhhhhhh why not
:eng: :wk: John Simpson - if Foakes isn't fit, might as well throw him a second shock debut of the summer
:eng: :bwl: Saqib Mahmood - looked really good in the one-dayers, could get a gig
:eng: :bwl: Brydon Carse - fearsome tweak it why not
:eng: :bwl: George Garton - a rogue left-arm quick just screams "fifth Test dead rubber debut" to me

Bam. 29 players. Let's '89 Ashes this thing.

PS - The '89 Ashes was a six-Test series, so the equivalent of their 29 players would be 25 in this series; but I don't want to let maths get in the way of a good shitpost

You call Pope an incumbent, but so was Bairstow. He played the last three tests in India and was rested like the other IPL players for the NZ series.

And as much as people love to single him out, he averages more than Burns, Sibley, Stokes and Pope in the last 12 months. Crawley's 260 more than doubles his average in that time. Bairstow doesn't have a fifty but at least he's been consistently mediocre.

I doubt we'll see Stokes this summer.
Hameed could get a game sooner rather than later. Don't know exactly how close he is (I think the inflated squads sometimes make it look like some players are closer to selection than they actually are) but his 100 vs India won't have done him any harm. Since his century against the West Indies Sibley's games seems to have gradually got worse. Even if he did get dropped who's to say Crawley wouldn't be moved up so Prince Jonny can take his wrongful place at number 3?
Pope could be back. We are definitely missing his 21 runs per innings.

I think Woakes might be 'fit' for the third, but considering his injury was apparently caused due to a lack of cricket (bruised heel from sitting around doing nothing for the last year) and it'd be over 12 months since his last first class match, would it be worth it to risk him? I can't imagine he'd play in the Ashes but he'd definitely be a back up in case of injury. Given everyone else's form it might worth playing him as the Ed Smith Specialist Number 7™.

When it comes to the batting England are in the same position as usual, no one has played any first class cricket for three weeks. Joe Denly does seem to be batting at test match pace in The Hundred so there's always him.

Despite all that, I would be very much in favour of a complete selection shambles of a series.

There's always Mo.

While I was about 80% shitposting, I definitely agree that this would be the best timeline

Even from an England perspective; the only way to see how all of these guys stack up against Test opposition at present is to put them all up against Test opposition

Brilliant day for India after having lost the toss. Weather permitting, this should be a great contest.

You were saying
Today was one of those 1-in-a-million chance occurrence :p

I don't mind this. Making efforts to have more viewers from India watch the video is laudable as it's out of their comfort zone. It's a win-win.

Good to seen Moeen in fine form helping Phoenix win again, time to bring him back to test side as he’s clearly India’s nemesis and will ensure England win 4-1 :thumbs

Think best case scenario for Stokes is coming back for the World Cup and winter tour. There's always players waiting in the wings to come in but there's an issue with the way the ECB have setup the summer calendar domestically.

How are you going to have in form players pushing for test selection when the last round of county champshionship matches were four weeks ago and there's another four weeks until there will be any long form domestic games. You can't select test batsmen based on who hit a couple of quick 30s or 40s in the Hundred! Even if someone who is on the radar has a brilliant game in the next round of county championship matches and pushes their way into the team by then we're at the 5th test.

Close call from England there! Rohit still needs to be a little more careful at the crease.

Loose shot from KL Rahul now on the first ball of the 20th over. This is the problem I have seen with India since last 3-4 years. Some really good overs where the runs have dried up have made them to take the aggressive approach in turn throwing away wickets.
