Who will win the Test series?

Although the run rate doesn't look as dominating but the score is what would put England under real pressure. The trail is no just 121 and if either of these 2 stands tall and tries to play out the innings and will Pujara, Kohli & Rahane yet to come plus Rishabh Pant waiting to kill the bowling I could see a 350+ score. But for that we need to keep batting like this. Shot selection will be the key in the coming 30-40 overs.

Looking at the weather forecast if Indias plan is to bat a couple of days and then bowl England out again they could very easily run out of time. If the forecast is accurate once the rain comes in later this afternoon could be looking at as little as two hours play each day for the remainder of the match.

They are just looking to get closer to England's score at this point. And no we aren't looking anywhere close to a result as yet. It is just about getting things right atm.

I was thinking about how one might structure the first-class game in England to better prepare the Test side. I've mentioned before about how I would rejig the County Championship as well as how I would dearly love to bin off the Hundred so I'll leave that alone, but one addition that could most certainly be made would be North v South matches.

So looking at the current itinerary:
-- North v South Match here --
02 Jun - :eng: vs :nzf: @ Lord's
10 Jun - :eng: vs :nzf: @ Edgbaston
-- North v South Match here --
04 Aug - :eng: vs :ind: @ Trent Bridge
13 Aug - :eng: vs :ind: @ Lord's
-- North v South Match here? -- (this one would have to not include players from the second Test)
26 Aug - :eng: vs :ind: @ Headingley
03 Sep - :eng: vs :ind: @ The Oval
11 Sep - :eng: vs :ind: @ Old Trafford

By having these matches baked into the schedule, you could still give players some good preparation regardless of whether or not they're in the middle of a white-ball block.

Also, I would have a few tweaks to the playing conditions for the best possible Test preparation:
  • These would be five-day matches
  • The matches would have 13-man "Matchday Squads"
    • The game starts with a playing XI and two substitutes
    • Teams can make two tactical substitutions if they so choose
    • Players substituted out can only be brought back into the game as injury replacements (such as concussions)
  • Bonus points would still be counted so that the series is more likely to have a winner
Starting XI
  1. :eng: :bat: Dominic Sibley (Warwickshire)
  2. :eng: :bat: Haseeb Hameed (Nottinghamshire)

Not necessarily saying that these would be the squads, but they give you a feel for what the series would look like. It wouldn't necessarily be Test quality but it would be as near as can be, and should be the ideal preparation - especially for fringe players. Also, with an actual competition on the line, it ought to be more than just glorified middle practice.

Well.. that has changed the match completely! Kohli is so out of touch since a year and half! I
