I did not read this post carefully. :facepalm
I thought you wrote that Shardul is tested positive for COVID-19. I checked on google and cricbuzz but there was no such news so I thought that you got this news from Whatsapp University.

So who is India's best Test batsman right now ? It has to be Rohit - he has been consistent, has gotten us off to good starts and has played match winning/turning knocks in his second coming as an opener. He is an opener, so low scores are part and parcel. Dont see anything questionable about the claim that Rohit is the current best batsman in Tests.

These starts are no where as good as what they used to be. Giving a longer rope to a bastman nearing 35 shouldn't be the main criteria of the team. Rohit has batted well, but is nowhere near 'best'- Yes, 'best' in the current team where no one seems to be scoring. However, that doesnt mean he becomes your best man overnight.

Rahane should play the series out rightfully before a decision is made on him. That's the least bit of respect you give to your vice captain, who is battling a consistency issue. And more so when you are winning despite his inconsistency. You can't discard Pujara and Rahane just like that, in the middle of a series. They form the modern day trio with Kohli and are test lynchpins.

Rahane will play in Manchester! I did read an article that stated that Ajinkya Rahane might be the actual brains behind India's bowling/ fielding changes and hence the management might not want to discard him. He is woefully short on confidence, I do hope he bounces back. Cause after this, this will be a longish break wherein he can relax and come back stronger.

I feel, he will get a chance vs Nz in the home series-perhaps even captain then!
