India tour of Ireland (2 T20Is) & England (1 Test, 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is)

From a series context (although as far I'm concerned India won the 4-match series 2-1, this one-off test is just to appease broadcasters) India only needed to draw.
Officially this game still counts as a match of the series that was played last year and hence it's titled as the 5th Test. Although India are going to retain the Pataudi Trophy since they beat England 3-1 when they visited India.

We will lose the match due to Pant. He should have played like Pujara and wasted a lot of time so that England couldn't chase the target in time. Pant should be immediately banned from playing for India.

I know it's officially the 5th test, but it's still stupid.

I don't know but slamming India's batting performance seemed a little too odd to me
We did fumble in the 3rd Innings, didn't we? I mean yes, if it weren't for the heroics of Pant and Jadeja in the 1st innings we would probably not be talking about the "throwing it away" part. That is what hurts. You get into a position of strength and then hand it over on a silver platter.

I mean 380 runs are actually enough to be defended if we take the quality of Indian bowling into contention
We knew from the start what we will be up against. It was not a one off case - we have seen the past 3 Tests that England played to get an idea what was on the cards. So I doubt that India was content with 380 on the board. They very well ought to have known that.

If India could get Root and Bairstow in the first half hour I feel the match could swing but it certainly feels more like it's England's to lose now.
Dude, it's over. England won. There's no "if" here. Even with a collapse, a few hits here and there and you're home.

Last 3 Tests in England?

Let us assess New Zealand's bowling line-up-

  1. They missed Jamieson for the most part
  2. Southee has got a very average record in 2nd innings
  3. Boult has a great record and he was successful to some extent but he tried a little too hard
  4. Michael Bracewell was at best a part-timer who was making his debut and no doubt was taken for cleaners
  5. Wagner just played one game in the series and he looked completely off apart from the early wickets that he got.

Compare that to India's attack

  1. India had 2 of the most successful bowlers in SENA countries in away matches in last 5 years with Bumrah and Shami taking 99 & 83 wickets respectively
  2. Siraj had a great outing last time in England and he also took 4 wickets in the 1st innings.
  3. Jadeja is one of the most successful spinners of the last decade or so and have enough skills to use the rough patches to get wickets or atleast keep it tight enough.

You mentioned all that Baz-ball stuff and England being so good which is a fact. So this isn't something India had to worry about. They only had to do what they are good at doing- to keep things tight and not concede easy runs

Credits due where credits due - England in the past 4 tests have been simply too good for the opposition.

The brand of cricket they are playing is pretty exciting to watch and working really for them.

Wasn't the discussion topic around India's batting? Especially regarding this sentence:

Nowhere in my post did I put the blame on the bowlers. So not sure why you're bringing that up.
