Story India Tours West Indies For a Five Test Series

Sarwan and Chanderpaul may have thought that the lunch would have made Indians heavy. But it was vice versa. After adding 17 more, at 153... Sarwan departs. Gives an easy catch to Kumble square of the wicket on off side as Sehwag bowls his first over.

Dwayne Bravo may be the latest all rounder sensation in WI, but Kumble is an old pro. Bravo goes for a duck as he doesn't know that Kumble as a kid aspired to be a medium pacer. beaten by pace.

If the Indians thought that they had got to the tail they were wrong. They had allowed Chanderpaul to get settled and Jacobs was in no mood of whiling away his time. The bowling figures after 36 overs have only the wickets to cheer about for Indians.

The fighters wage a hard battle against the Indians. Their partnership is looking ominous at the end of 46 overs.

India have tried everything - yes even their partnership breaker - Tendulkar. But to no avail. He has already smashed Tendulkar for 25 runs in two overs and reached his fifty in a jiffy. Chanderpaul has also managed a well made but slow paced fifty.

Just then Ganguly throws back the ball to Pathan in 50th over and gives him a predominantly leg side field in the 54th. Irfan strikes immediately removing Jacobs, Banks and Best in the same over.

Here is Jacobs hooking a slow leg cutter.

Banks comes in and goes straight back to the dressing room. Again the slower delivery but heading straight in to middle stump. Pathan on a hattrick.

Best takes good care of the hattrick ball. But Pathan doesn't let go so easily. Thats why he is one of the most dreaded. He strikes with a snorter two balls later to remove Best for the same score as Bravo and Banks - DUCK.

Pathan's over inspires Ganguly to bring Agarkar back in. With similar leg side field. First ball and Chanderpaul doesnt know where the ball is heading and hooks. The ball land in his stumps. Four wickets have gone at the score of 255. Wonderful exhibition and mixing of fast and slow deliveries.

Collins is not expected to score quadruple centuries but he sure needs a broader (or is it longer?) bats. Agarkar is stranded on a hattrick as the last wicket falls in the form of Collins.

From cruising at 255/5 WI are all out at the same score. Courtsey beautiful fast bowling by Pathan and Agarkar and ingenious fielding traps by Ganguly.

WI would have liked to see at least a few more runs on the scorecard.

The Indian bowlers bowled well and supported their skipper's decision. Tendulkar and Balaji being the exceptions. Balaji would be hoping for a better show in the second innings and also for a good show by Indian batsmen.

The WI batting looked good. They got the starts but couldn't convert. Though the last five wickets will be thinking of duck-hunting.

The partnerships

The WI bowlers know that Indians traditionally dislike batting at Kingston. They are usually worried about the bounce and pace. But they also know that this is a really good batting lineup with Tendulkar and Sehwag opening. The runs should be coming at ODI rates. Let us see how the match proceeds from here.
