India v England 2008

Breaking News:

Sachin rested for first 3 ODI's,this will not put much physical strain because after 4 test matches with Aus,there was not much gap for him, then there are remaining 4 matches ODI with Eng,then 2 test matches, then there is imp Pak tour.

Well, I'm kind of glad, because this way we can keep S&G together, with Raina at 3. We can definitely cope in the ODI arena, even Sachin was to retire, not implying anything, but I feel we're alright there.

Good now a thread for some official English bashing.

Sachin rested for 3 ODIs. :p
Looking at the rate with which he gets cramps in ODIs he only play finals or series deciders.

Take a look at our middle order, other than Dhoni, who else can you depend on to put up a wall when the time is needed? Badri showed on his debut, exactly what he brings to the team. Yusuf's bowling is a joke too, I would rather have Badri bowling, plus he is a better fielder.

Oh, and Badri can launch the ball to all parts too, as he has shown in the IPL, he plays according to the situation. It's pretty safe to say, all Yusuf is capable of is lusty and savage hitting.

Hm...I respect your point of view but you don't need a specialist batsmen who is specialized in resistance. 'Big Hitters' in our team such as Dhoni, Yuvraj and Sehwag also have the ability to close up if needed, We also have Rohit Sharma. It worked in Australia and it will probably work here.

Whats this new fixation with M. Vijay? They have dropped Badrinath for Vijay in the first three ODI's here, and they have brought him out of nowhere for the last test against Australia.

This guy must be living on lucky charms. He is lucky to get these breaks, and if he doesnt capitalise, then to hell with him!!!:D

OMG, YUSUF THE CLOWN RETURNS!
They've dropped Badri as well, I honestly cannot fathom why either.

No. Yusuf is a good decent hitter. And a very useful off spinner in ODI's. If he can be good for T20's, he will be mroe than useful for ODI's. Good that we went with him instead of Irfan.

Yuvraj should be no way near the ODI team on current form, first of all, it's just nonsense to me that he keeps on getting in only because of his reputation and the T20 WC, it's as if the spot is just served on a plate to him, when there are others who are more deserving of the spot than him at this moment in time.

I know Dhoni is well capable, but Sehwag opens, you're gonna depend on him to bat through most innings'? And please, don't tell me, you just put Rohit Sharma ahead of Badri in terms of batsmanship, because he's no way near as dependable as him yet.

I know I stand stupid but you can't really drop Yuvraj from the ODI squad, He might be abysmal in one series, But he'll probably come back strong in the next, He is a tailor made ODI player up until th last couple of ODI's or so...:p Personally I don't think Badrinath is ODI material..By all means he is has potential to be fantastic Test Cricketer though.

Line-Up for ODI's:

1) Virender Sehwag
2) Gautam Gambhir
3) Suresh Raina
4) Yuvraj Singh
5) Rohit Sharma
6) MS Dhoni C+

7) Virat Kohli/Yusuf Pathan - If Virat were to play he would probably bat higher though.
8) Harbhajan Singh
9) Zaheer Khan
10) RP Singh
11) Ishant Sharma

Why Dhoni so low? He's our best ODI batsman, needs to be at 4, followed by Yuvraj (if up to me, Badri everyday of the week). Please could you elaborate on why don't believe Badri to be ODI material?

TBH it was a bit unfair from me, I judged him on them 3 ODI Games in Sri Lanka, When I saw him I was expecting him to be some sort of stroke player, However, I know were we in some tight situations when he came in but what he did was completely wrong, He kept on blocking until he got bogged down and gave his wicket away...I know its way too early to judge him in ODI's but thats what I saw of him. I wish to see more of him, I have nothing against him being in either the ODI or Test squad, If anything quite pleased, But I didn't think your argument over Badri of Yusuf was fair. Yusuf deserves this after his performances in the IPL, He also is more suitable for this format, Who cares if he gets a quickfire 30 and gets out - Although he proved in the IPL that he capable of hitting and scoring big...BAdrinath would also probably score big runs, But not at the pace of Yusuf.

Yes, but we have others who can bat at the pace of Pathan, but other than Dhoni, there aren't a lot of guys who could weather a storm and still get the team to a decent score, like Badri has done countless times.

About the bogging down: 1st match, he had to play it slow and take us home. 2nd match, granted he did get a bit bogged down, but he came in, in the 14th over, so he had ambles of time, so he was giving himself a chance to get in first. 3rd match, I wouldn't really call it bogged down, 6 off 11 deliveries, it's very slow for the death, but if you look at it, he did keep switching the strike over with singles, but got out at the wrong time, as a batsman he should have pressed on.

Out of the three matches, I would only put the second one completely down to him being in the wrong, 1st one he took us home, and the 3rd one wasn't really really slowing the scoring down completely.
