Virender Sehwag fell to part time leggie Imran Nazir as he over did the sweep and was trapped in front.

The other opener in fray Wasim Jaffer joined Gambhir as they took India to lunch just 1 down.

This is going to be fascinationg post lunch session as both Gambhir and Jaffer are fighting for the one test spot available.

Jaffer falls immediately after lunch

Wasim Jaffer did his chances of a place in the starting line-up no good after he hit the first ball he faced after lunch into the waiting hands of square leg. It was a good diving catch to get rid of him. He made just 16 as India are 87/2.

The Indian skipper Rahul Dravid walks out to join Gambhir.

Dravid and Gambhir have struck a nice little partnership as they proceeded to tea without any further loss. The score at tea is 155/2 from 58 overs.

Dravid sweeps the Pakistani bowling apart...

Rahul Dravid latched on to any thing on fuller length bowled by the spinners to sweep for boundaries. He hit as many as 5 boundaries with the sweep shot.

Gautam Gambhir made the msot of Jaffer's failure to help himself to a half century. It was painstakingly made of 158 balls with 6 hits to the fence.

Gambhir and Dravid prosper...

Gambhir and Dravid came back from tea with a purpose and they set about to do the same. Dravid reached his 50 in not so convincing fashion by edging Ifthikar Anjum through the slips and later in the same over edged again for a 4. The pair is still at the crease and going strong.

The Partnership reaches 100

Dravid and Gambhir have raised their 100 run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Dravid contributing 60% of it. Dravid is at 60 not out and Gambhir is at 79 not out.

Gambhir completes ton as India end Day 1 strong.

Gautam Gambhir virtually sealed his opening slot in the Indian starting line up with a patient and well orchestrated century on the first day. Gambhir took 247 balls and 13 fours in doing so.

He and Dravid have composed a 150 odd run partnership for the third wicket as India end Day 1 at a strong 2/242.

Gambhir and Dravid are not out on 113 and 78 runs respectively.
